Here's my take on why there has been so much interest in the stock. CSM was a hot stock in Yr 1999 and 2000. The stock was traded at its peak of SGD19 in the early 2000.
The stock has dropped to 1.5% from its high price. Investors must have felt that now is the time to pick up at such a bargain price.
Question is: is it really a bargain?? Time will time.
Singapore contract chipmaker Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd Wednesday said that it is open to any takeover opportunities that may arise.
"In principle, Chartered is open to considering strategic investors if and when such opportunities arise. We need to evaluate such opportunities on a case-by-case basis and ensure that it is in the interest of all shareholders of the company," a Chartered spokesperson told Dow Jones Newswires.
Chartered shares have risen more than 6% since the beginning of the week on talk that it is subject to a possible takeover bid.
Singapore state-owned investment company Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd. has a 59% stake in the company.
