Premier League: City Must Tame Wolves to Keep Title Hopes Alive

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City

Manchester City's grip on the Premier League title is seemingly slipping away heading into the festive period. The defending champions are now 11 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool, who still have a game in hand. And there's a very real possibility that gap gets bigger by the weekend as the Citizens face a tricky test away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves recently had their long unbeaten run snapped but bounced back with a fine away victory last time out. The Premier League 2019 betting odds point toward another City victory. But Wolves have had a strong record against the top six sides and will be out to deal another massive blow to City's title hopes.

Talking Points

Wolves in fine form Wolves finally tasted defeat for the first time in 11 matches with a dramatic defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs snatched a late victory thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Jan Vertonghen. During their long unbeaten run, Wolves had five victories and six draws, with three of those wins coming at home. Wolves bounced back from that Spurs setback by coming from behind to beat Norwich away. Second-half goals from Romain Saiss and Raul Jimenez saw them get back to winning ways. It was especially promising for Wolves to see Jimenez get back on the scoresheet. After going on a remarkable run of scoring in seven goals in eight games, the Mexican had gone without a goal in his last four outings. Although, he still contributed three assists during that time.
Wolves are looking for Premier League double victory over defending champions Manchester City
Adama Traore have scored 3 goals and produced 3 assists this season

Wolves have had a strong record against the top sides in the league because those matches suit their style perfectly. They are more than willing to allow their opposition to have possession as they look to play on the counterattack with Jimenez and speedster Adama Traore. And with City's backline looking vulnerable at times this season, Wolves should have at least some opportunities to score at home. City rediscovering dominance Manchester City had quite a rough patch from the start of November until the first week of December. During that span, they won just two of their seven matches in all competitions, with two defeats and three draws. However, they have steadily improved their performances in recent weeks as they've won their last four matches in all competitions since losing the Manchester derby. Their Premier League 2019 results during that time have been especially impressive. After demolishing Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates, they came from behind and put three goals past second-placed Leicester City in a 3-1 victory. The fine play of midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne has been a major reason for their resurgence. The brilliant Belgian tore Arsenal to shreds with two goals and had another terrific performance against Leicester. Gabriel Jesus has also done a fine job deputising for Sergio Aguero as the focal point of the City attack. The Brazilian has delivered six goals and two assists in the last six games. Although, Aguero finally made his return as a substitute against Leicester and will be gunning to win back his starting spot. However, it's in defence where City continue to have concerns. The champions have kept only one clean sheet in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

History

Unsurprisingly, City have had the upper hand in recent matchups with Wolves, with six wins in their last eight. Although, they suffered their first defeat to Wolves in close to a decade last season as they were shocked 2-0 at home. Adama Traore was the star for Wolves as he bagged a late brace to sink the champions. Aside from that win, Wolves also held City to a 1-1 draw at Molineux back in 2018. Two centre-backs -- Willy Boly for Wolves and Aymeric Laporte for City -- got the goals in that match, although neither will be able to take part in this fixture due to injury.

Betting Tip

??

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City Wolverhampton Wanderers Asian Handicap +1.50 @ 1.76
December 28, 03:45 (GMT+8)
SBOBET odds have Wolves as massive underdogs at home at 7.20 to win on the 1X2 market. Meanwhile, City are significant favourites at 1.40 to grab another away win and a draw is priced at 4.60. Don't let those odds fool you, though; Wolves are very much live underdogs who are capable of causing City some problems given their style of play. As such, I am leaning toward Wolves on the Asian Handicap. While getting all three points will be a tall task against a resurgent City side, Wolves are certainly capable of limiting the damage the champions can inflict. That's why I'm going for the home side at +1.50 as they give City all they can handle.

Premier League: Leicester Could Have Hands Full with Hammers

West Ham United vs Leicester City

Leicester City are playing with the Premier League big boys this season as they've soared to heights they haven't reached since their remarkable title-winning season three years ago.

But the Foxes are finding out how tough it is to fight among giants like Liverpool and Manchester City atop the table. They've already dropped some crucial points in recent weeks and can't afford to do so again as they face off against West Ham United.

After some initial promise, the Hammers have quite a disappointing season thus far as they find themselves down in the bottom half of the table.

As a disclaimer, both teams have yet to play their Boxing Day games at the time of this writing. But the Premier League 2019 odds are already out, and they favour the Foxes to pick up an away win. However, don't discount the Hammers from dealing high-flying Leicester another setback.

Talking Points

Hammers have key piece back

West Ham's Premier League 2019 results in recent weeks have been quite rough. Prior to their win at Southampton, they had won just once in their previous 10 Premier League matches (seven losses, two draws). That other win surprisingly came at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

Sebastien Haller got the winning goal for West Ham in their 1-0 victory against Southampton. It was the Frenchman's first goal for the Hammers since October as he went eight matches without finding the net.

That goal should provide a nice boost to Haller's confidence, which had to be quite low. Having Haller back among the goals is promising news for the Hammers, who desperately need more attacking production. They've scored just 19 goals thus far this season, tied for the fourth-fewest in the league.

Jamie Vardy has been directly involved in 20 Premier League goals this season
Leicester's Jamie Vardy celebrates after scoring the opening goal against Manchester City

But perhaps more importantly, they are set to get goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski back following a long injury absence. The Hammers have missed the Polish shot-stopper dearly as evidenced by the 28 goals they've already conceded.

Felipe Anderson is also set to be fit for selection after missing the Southampton match due to illness, while right-back Ryan Fredericks will be eligible to return after serving his one-match ban against Crystal Palace.

Foxes need to fix current skid

Leicester City have gone through their rockiest part of the season to date. Prior to their top-of-the-table date with Liverpool, they drew at home to second-from-bottom Norwich and lost 3-1 to third-placed Manchester City. They also squandered a 2-0 lead away to Everton in the Carabao Cup but still went through on penalties.

While there's no shame in losing away to the defending champions City, their surprising result against Norwich underscores how difficult it will be to remain in the top two for the entire season.

They can't afford to keep dropping points against inferior teams they should be beating. That's why it's imperative for them to pick up all three points against a less than stellar West Ham side.

Premier League top scorer Jamie Vardy, who has 17 goals this term, has been in fabulous form. Vardy had gone two games without a goal after going on a tremendous eight-match scoring run, but he finally snapped that mini drought against City.

With West Ham more than willing to play on the front foot, particularly at home, Vardy should get his chances to run in behind the Hammers' defence and get good opportunities on goal.

History

The historical head-to-head between West Ham and Leicester City has been quite close. Since 1994, West Ham hold the edge with 13 wins to eight, while there have been eight draws.

The two sides have drawn three of their last four encounters, with West Ham claiming the lone win during that span.

They played out an entertaining 2-2 draw the last time they squared off in London. The Hammers looked on course for a home win, but Harvey Barnes popped up with a stoppage-time equaliser as the Foxes picked up a point.

Betting Tip

??

West Ham United vs Leicester City West Ham United Asian Handicap +0.75 @ 1.96
December 29, 01:30 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have Leicester favoured at 1.75 on the 1X2 market to score a much-needed away victory, while West Ham are priced at 4.30 to claim the home win. A draw is 3.70.

Given Leicester's recent stumbles, an away win is clearly not a sure thing. That's why I'm going for the Asian Handicap and backing West Ham.

The Foxes will be just a couple of days removed from another tough match against leaders Liverpool, which should take something out of them. Meanwhile, West Ham have a less taxing match against Crystal Palace and will be a bit fresher after not playing last weekend.

Premier League: Red Devils Are Ready For Some Lancashire Hotpot!

Burnley vs Manchester United

What better way to follow the Christmas celebrations than to head to Lancashire for a tasty dish full of heat and spice.

That’s exactly what we’re hoping for when Premier League: Burnley vs Manchester United is the Saturday treat on offer at Turf Moor. It’s going to be bitterly cold up in East Lancashire, so it’s no place for the feint-heated, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have his players primed for the test. They head to Burnley on the back of a morale boosting victory over Newcastle United and will have high hopes for a second win in three days.

The very latest SBOBET odds have Manchester United as favourites, marginally odds on, but any result is possible if Sean Dyche’s Clarets are in the mood.

Talking Points

Red Devils recover from Watford wobble

Manchester United have been far too hit and miss this season, you can never be entirely sure what you’re going to get.

David de Gea’s form has been a cause for concern over the past 12 months; at times he looks like the best goalkeeper on the planet but then he’s dropped more howlers than his ability warrants, the last consigning the Red Devils to defeat at bottom club Watford.

But Solskjaer’s team responded brilliantly to despatch Newcastle 4-1 on Boxing day with Anthony Martial scoring twice and Mason Greenwood hitting a screamer.

Paul Pogba made a surprise appearance for the last 20 minutes of the carnage at Vicarage Road, and he was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch, with a superb array of passes that, with more time, would have surely unlocked the Hornets’ defence. And he came off the bench again against the Magpies. Both Real Madrid and Juventus are tracking his progress at Old Trafford but Solskjaer is apparently keen to keep him at Manchester United.

Dwight’s all right for Clarets

As a team which is always more than the sum of its parts Burnley is not known for its superstars. Sean Dyche prefers hard men with Premier League quality and players who will run through a brick wall for the team, leaving their egos at home. So a player with such star quality as Dwight McNeil can keep his feet firmly on the ground.

An injury to Robbie Brady gave the young winger his chance around this time last year, and he was a shining light in the Clarets’ impressive second half of the 2018/19 campaign, making the most assists in Europe’s top leagues of any teenager. He’s a great source of supply for Burnley’s two strikers, Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes. Having watched Watford’s Troy Deeney bully the United defence last week, Dyche rested his battle hardy striker Barnes for the Boxing day meeting with Everton.

Premier League fans is considering Dwight McNeil to have a star quality
Dwight McNeil playing for Burnley during their Premier League match against Bournemouth

In their Boxing day fixture the Clarets went down to an 80th minute header by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, giving Carlo Ancelotti a flying start as Everton boss, and Dyche will be looking for a response against the Red Devils.

History

Solskjaer’s team has had the better of the head-to-head Burnley vs Manchester United results, winning 36 of the 82 meetings, while the Clarets have won 29 and there have been 17 draws.

Three of those draws have been over the last six meetings, the most recent being a 2-2 result at Old Trafford in January. Barnes and Wood gave the Clarets a 0-2 lead before United roared back with an injury time equaliser.

The Red Devils have struggled on their travels recently, winning just one match in their last five trips, while before their reversal to Everton, Burnley had back-to-back wins over Newcastle and Bournemouth, with neither of their opponents registering a single shot on target.

Betting Tip

??

Burnley vs Manchester United Under 2.50 goals @ 1.92
December 27, 01:30 (GMT+8)

The latest Burnley vs Manchester United betting odds have the visitors slightly odds on to win this game at 1.94, while the draw is at 3.45 and Burnley are at 3.80 to win.

The Clarets have been much stronger at home than on their travels, while the Red Devils have struggled to win away. But a big home win against Newcastle will have their fans hoping they are about to climb the table and launch an attack on the European places.

Manchester United should have the quality to carve out chances, but they will have to work hard to break through a resolute Burnley defence, while Solskjaer’s own defenders will know they have been in a game.

I expect both teams to score and 1-1 at odds of 6.20 is the most likely score line. That would probably suit Burnley more than their visitors.

Premier League: Relentless Liverpool Hand Leicester a Reality Check

Leicester City 0-4 Liverpool

It would be easy to be critical of the standard of the Premier League after matches like this.

Because quite frankly, with the exception of the reigning champions Manchester City and their likely successors as champions this season Liverpool, the overall quality of the top flight is not what it was with the other leading sides either in decline or transition.

However, it would be grossly unfair to disparage either of these sides as one dominated from start to finish against opponents who have taken full advantage of others’ fall from grace to actually go into this match in second place.

The truth is that this was only a top-two clash on paper. Only one side really deserves top billing.

Highlights of the game

They produced plenty of Premier League highlights along the way too.

Roberto Firmino’s header from a fine Trent Alexander-Arnold cross gave them an interval lead they thoroughly deserved before three goals in seven minutes in the second half underlined their superiority and slashed further their SBOBET Premier League betting odds.

In fact, it would take a collapse of incredible proportions for them not to end their long wait for a league title this season as they currently hold a 13-point lead at the summit with a game in hand.

When the further goals arrived, they were slick and perfectly executed.

Centre-back Caglar Soyuncu handled in the 71st minute allowing James Milner to score from the penalty spot just seconds after coming on.

Alexander-Arnold then set up Firmino again as the Brazilian produced a cool finish before the attacking full-back fired a thumping right-foot drive into the net for number four from about 20 yards.

This heavy defeat, on the back of an equally convincing loss to Manchester City, should finally put an end to foolhardy suggestions that the Foxes are ready to mount a title challenge.

Leicester maintain their standing in the Premier League table despite their recent loss to Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers looks on from the sidelines during Leicester's Premier League clash against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium

Brendan Rodgers is a decent manager and his side can be proud of their first half of the campaign but no more than that as Liverpool showed, brutally quashing the hosts and subduing the cacophonous pre-match atmosphere from the outset.

Utterly dominant, determined Liverpool are utterly certain to be this season’s champions.

Key statistics

Leicester have lost five of their last six Premier League meetings with Liverpool and drawing the other, with their most recent victory a 3-1 win in February 2017.

Liverpool have won three consecutive top-flight away matches versus Leicester for the first time.

This was Leicester’s first home defeat in 12 matches in all competitions (W8, D3) since a 1-0 loss to Newcastle in April.

Leicester have lost back-to-back league games for the first time since Rodgers succeeded Claude Puel as boss in February.

Liverpool have won five successive Boxing Day Premier League matches for the first time, triumphing by an aggregate score of 15-0.

The Reds have won 30 Premier League games in 2019. They have only once managed more victories in a calendar year, recording 33 in 1982.

Liverpool are 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table. In English top-flight history, the only side to be at least 10 points clear at Christmas and not win the title were Newcastle United in 1995-96.

Liverpool have won 26 of their last 27 Premier League matches drawing the other, including 17 of 18 this season.

They are unbeaten in 35 league fixtures (W30, D5).

The Merseysiders have scored two or more goals in 24 of the last 27 league fixtures. They are the only side to have scored in all 18 Premier League games this season.

Firmino’s second goal was the 500th Liverpool have scored under Jurgen Klopp in all competitions.

Milner has scored 17 of his 19 Premier League penalties, including 13 of the 14 he has taken for Liverpool.

Leicester have lost a home Premier League game by a four-goal margin for the first time since a 1-6 defeat to Tottenham in May 2017.

Leicester have won just two of the 11 Premier League games under Rodgers in which Jamie Vardy has failed to score.

Liverpool full-back Alexander-Arnold has registered 20 assists in the Premier League since the start of last season, more than any other player.

What’s next?

Leicester who clearly suffering a dip in form, now have to try and bounce back with another game in less than 48 hours – ridiculous timing unless it is the same for all clubs. They travel to West Ham on Saturday teatime.

Liverpool host Wolves the following day on December 29.

Premier League: Sky Blues Not Giving Up Just Yet

Manchester City vs Sheffield United

Despite being points away from the top of the Premier League table, Manchester City can hold on to the second spot if they can continue their roll against Sheffield United next Monday.

Liverpool are still leading the pack, of course, and they are yet to be beaten this season. They recently won in their fixture against Leicester City by simply dominating them with a 4-0 tally.

Manchester City are slowly getting back to their dangerous form after recovering from their tough loss against Manchester United. Some of their key wins came in high-scoring fashion as shown in their matches against Arsenal and Leicester City.

On the other hand, Sheffield United continue to put the league on notice by rising to the sixth spot. The Blades can improve their standing if they can get their first-ever victory against the Sky Blues.

As of this writing, it looks like that there will be new champions at the end of the season. Nonetheless, we can expect these two teams duke it out as if a title is on the line.

SBOBET offers you a preview of next week’s match.

Talking points

Another Man City icon leaving?

The Sky Blues have been rediscovering their championship form given their torrid stretch lately, and that’s big if they would want to keep their slim title hopes alive.

“It was like the old City yeah. It was good to give a good performance to our fans. They deserve it because it hasn’t been a good first half of the season for us,” said Bernardo Silva after their game against the Foxes.

City have recovered from a disappointing Manchester Derby by unloading six total goals and conceding only one to the likes of Arsenal and Leicester City.

They have a vaunted combination with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez for their attack. However, team manager Pep Guardiola will have the task of preparing possibly for a life without Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

In a recent report by the Daily Mail, Guardiola is lamenting at the possibility of Aguero possibly leaving the club months from now. The Argentinian striker has already scored 13 goals plus some Premier League 2019 highlights for City so far this season.

'Sergio is irreplaceable. We have another incredible striker in Gabriel Jesus and maybe another one will come when Sergio leaves but he is irreplaceable,” Guardiola emphasized.

He is undoubtedly one of the icons for the club, having arrived from Atletico Madrid for £38m in 2011. Aguero produced one of the iconic moments in recent memory when he scored the title-winning goal against QPR back in the 2012 season.

David Silva, on the other hand, is reportedly linked for a transfer to David Beckham’s new MLS team Inter Miami after the 2019/20 campaign.

Sheffield United aim to rise in the Premier League standings by defeating Manchester City
Sheffield United's John Egan in action against Brighton & Hove Albion's Aaron Connolly at the Amex Stadium

Their defence has already taken a hit early this season when former captain Vincent Kompany left the club. Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy, and Nicolas Otamendi have tried their luck to fill in for him, but they have yet to fulfill their potential.

Either way, they still have a formidable roster capable of winning the title. It’s just too bad that the chances of them repeating happen to be very low this season.

Sheffield United taking care of business

The Blades have been slicing their way through competition since they’ve endured a tough loss against Newcastle three weeks ago. Sheffield United bounced back by defeating the likes of Norwich City, Aston Villa, and Brighton while drawing level against Watford.

In those matches, several players took turns in providing goals for team boss Chris Wilder. Oliver Norwood and George Baldock continue to lead their attack through their playmaking while Oli McBurnie and John Fleck provided some exciting moments as well.

John Egan continues to be a reliable centre-back for Sheffield United. In fact, he has been garnering interest from several teams lately with his fine play.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton is one of the teams in the hunt for the Irish defender since they are in dire need of defencive reinforcements. Whether he will be transferred or not remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, Chris Wilder’s side still impresses the fans in the Premier League and facing City will give them a gauge on how far they’ve come.

History

Manchester City and Sheffield United have faced off in only six matches so far. City have been undefeated in those contests by winning three and drawing three.

Neither team scored more than once in all of their encounters.

Betting tip

??

Manchester City vs Sheffield United Manchester City Asian Handicap -2.00 @ 1.92
December 30, 2:00 (GMT+8)

It’s a bit surprising as to why Manchester City are the overwhelming favourites in our Premier League 2019 odds. The Sky Blues are at 1.19 and Sheffield United are at 11.00 while a draw is at 7.20 in the 1x2 market.

The Blades are still chasing for that elusive win against the Sky Blues and that is achievable since they have come close in several occasions.

However, I would have to give City the advantage here since they’re playing at home and their recent run has been quite dominant. It would be hard to envision Sheffield United posing problems against an in-form City attack.

Premier League: A Capital Clash Brings New Faces and Old Foes

Arsenal vs Chelsea

It’s amazing how quickly things can change in football. As these two clubs prepare to meet in what was for so long the clash in the capital in the Premier League, it’s all new faces on campus. Two players who, as recently as six years ago, were playing against each other for the respective teams they are now in charge of. As Mikel Arteta welcomes Frank Lampard to the Emirates for his first home match in charge, this may lack in the quality of some of their clashes of yesteryear but it should be no less entertaining.

Talking Points

Both sides are out of sort currently, although the west Londoners have far more credit in the bank. Despite losing five of the last seven, fourth placed Chelsea remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot, are through to the last 16 of this season’s competition and, despite a Boxing Day setback at home to Southampton, turned on the style on their visit to north London last weekend when Willian scored twice to see off Spurs. How they would love a repeat here. [caption id="attachment_208171" align="aligncenter" width="750"]Chelsea are 8 points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League table Willian scoring the penalty during their match against Tottenham Hotspur[/caption] Away from home they are more threatening than at home. Only Liverpool and Manchester City have scored more away goals than Chelsea’s tally of 22. Fourth place is something Arsenal are well short of right now as the Gunners lie eight points behind their rivals. The Gunners have won just one of the last 11 league games and find themselves in the bottom half of the table at the halfway stage. Indeed, Arsenal could lose four consecutive home fixtures in all competitions for the first time in 60 years. On the flipside, they could win consecutive Premier League home fixtures versus Chelsea for the first time since a run of three from 2001 to 2003. Premier League news concerns Arsenal defender Calum Chambers who has returned to the squad after serving a suspension on Boxing Day. Gabriel Martinelli and Hector Bellerin will be assessed, while Rob Holding and Dani Ceballos are likely absentees. Chelsea are expected to recall Mateo Kovacic after he was banned on Boxing Day, with Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic also poised to return. Reece James and Marcos Alonso missed the defeat by Southampton, with the latter more likely to be fit to play.

History

Over the years, Arsenal have won 77 of their meetings with 64 Chelsea victories and 57 draws. When these sides met in the second week of last season it was a thriller. Chelsea edged the contest 3-2, thanks to a late winner from Marcos Alonso. In the rematch in January, Arsenal triumphed 2-0 courtesy of goals from Alexandre Lacazette and then captain Laurent Koscielny. Both matches fully displayed both sides strengths and weaknesses and was yet another chapter in the long established rivalry. That August success for Chelsea was their only triumph in the last eight domestic meetings. At the Emirates the season before, a late Hector Bellerin goal rescued a point for the Gunners who then beat Chelsea 2-1 at the same venue three weeks later to reach the League Cup Final. Add in a goalless draw in the 2017/18 encounter at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal victories over Chelsea in the 2017 FA Cup Final and Community Shield and it’s easy to see who has had the edge in recent years. Of course, Chelsea will claim to have won the biggest match of all in that time in some style – a 4-1 thrashing of Arsenal in last season’s Europa League Final.

Betting Tip

??

Arsenal vs Chelsea Arsenal 1X2 @ 2.77
December 29, 22:00 (GMT+8)
The SBOBET Premier League betting odds make Chelsea slight favourites which is no surprise. They are priced 1X2 @ 2.40 and with Asian Handicap odds -0.50 @ 2.40. This fixture provides goals on more occasions that not and you can get odds of @ 2.13 on over 3.25 goals, total goal 2-3 @ 2.08 and total goal 4-6 @ 2.65. A repeat of the corresponding match last season – correct score 2-0 – will earn you a payout @ 19.50. I actually fancy Arsenal to end their poor run here and finally secure three much-needed points with a success for new boss Mikel Arteta. Chelsea’s only victory in their past seven matches at Emirates Stadium in all competitions came in the Premier League in January 2016. The Gunners have also never lost a Premier League home game against Chelsea in which they have scored first (won 11, drawn four).

Premier League: Wolves Bite Won’t Hurt Liverpool

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

We’re halfway through the season, but already on Merseyside, they are starting to believe that Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a Premier League title is coming to an end.

While the other big leagues in Europe take a well earned Christmas break there’s no such luxury for the tough cookies in the English league and Premier League: Liverpool vs Wolves is the next treat on offer. And the Reds go into the game 14 points clear of Manchester City with a game in hand.

It would take a spectacular implosion to stop Jurgen Klopp’s team now, particularly after Wolves did them massive favour by beating the Sky Blues in a five-goal thriller tonight.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have become a real force in the top league. But after playing a tough 90 minutes against reigning champions Manchester City, they will have to call on all their reserves to cope with the rampant Reds.

Klopp will know the Wolves can be dangerous opponents, but his team has a steely focus and will have had a day longer to rest and prepare.

Anfield will be bouncing with a celebratory atmosphere, and I fully expect it’ll be another special day in Liverpool on Sunday.

Talking Points

Now it seems real for the Reds

Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Leicester City surely dispelled any lingering doubts surrounding the league leaders’ title credentials.

We can take a look at the latest SBOBET odds which have been slashed week on week.

The Reds did go through a period of winning games narrowly. But now they seem to have stepped up a gear, and they defeated the second-placed Foxes with such ease.

Meanwhile, Manchester City lost again, this time to Wolves. The loss has put Liverpool in a dominant position that even the most ardent Reds fan could only dream of at the start of the season.

The game with Leicester was a top-two clash but the Reds simply dismantled the Foxes to hand head coach Brendan Rodgers a harsh reality check.

After Roberto Firmino had given the visitors a half time lead, three goals in seven minutes blew away their hosts.

Liverpool continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League
Liverpool players celebrate their third goal against Leicester City

Liverpool’s front line is frightening. And while neither Mo Salah nor Sadio Mane were on target at the KingPower Stadium, they already have nine goals each in the league.

Wolves pushed to the limit

The pre-match Liverpool vs Wolves news is all about their form in the congested Christmas programme.

And both teams have made a brilliant start, but what must their dramatic win over Manchester City have taken out of the Wolves?

It was a truly special night under the floodlights at Molyneux. But the players must have been completely drained after going two goals down to their opponents who were reduced to ten men, and then roaring back to win the game at the death.

Can they do it again? Well, they certainly have some great players. With eight goals and seven assists, Raul Jimenez is Wolves’ main man and he’s surrounded by some rich creative talent with the likes of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves pulling the strings in midfield.

Adama Traore is a real handful up front, he scored a beauty in the recent 1-2 defeat to Spurs and he bagged another in Wolves’ dramatic victory over Manchester City. His pace and trickery will give defences nightmares at times this season and he turned the game around after the Sky Blues had gone two goals up.

And Rui Patricio has been a key man in the Nuno revolution at Molyneux, showing what a class act he is by making two penalty saves from Raheem Sterling on Friday night.

History

When Liverpool fans watched their team led by club legend Kenny Dalglish to beat Queens Park Rangers to win the 1990 League Championship, few would have thought they would be 30 years older before they could celebrate being Kings of England again.

But they’re getting closer by the day.

The Reds have had the better of the head to heads. In the 12 games played over the past 15 years, there have been seven wins for Liverpool, three for Wolves and there have been two draws.

The last meeting ended in a 2-0 home win for the Reds with Sadio Mane scoring a brace as they raced for the line in the epic 2018/19 Premier League.

Wolves have been very solid away from home this season, losing only once on ten trips with four victories and five draws.

Betting Tip

??

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Liverpool Asian Handicap -1.50 @ 1.90
December 30, 00:30 (GMT+8)

The very latest Liverpool vs Wolves betting odds point to a home win, of course. Liverpool are as short as 1.28 to win this game, with Wolves out at 9.25 and the draw is 5.60.

A repeat of the last meeting’s scoreline of 2-0 is the most likely outcome at 6.20.

Wolves have just been pushed to the limit. However, Liverpool are relentless.

Premier League: Leicester Show Spirit as Football Remembers a True Great

West Ham United 1-2 Leicester City

As West Ham and Leicester played their final Premier League match of the decade, this was a day in which one of the greats of football in the 20th century was remembered.

West Ham United paid a wonderful tribute to the late Martin Peters, who died aged 76 last week.

Former Hammers team-mates Sir Geoff Hurst – with whom Peters starred in England’s 1966 World Cup victory – and Brian Dear recalled their own personal memories of Peters, while a video montage of the visionary player’s finest moments was also played on big screens at London Stadium.

A floral shirt tribute was then carried out to the centre circle spot before rapturous applause in celebration of the achievements of one of West Ham and England’s finest-ever players.

A great gone, but never to be forgotten.

Highlights of the game

Then it was time for two much-changed sides to produce Premier League 2019 highlights of their own. Sadly for the home side, they were few and far between.

It certainly didn’t take long before we had the first turning point.

The returning goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski fouled Kelechi Ihenacho and, while it was accidental, there was no question it was a penalty kick. But the Polish shot-stopper made amends, saving well from a tame Demarai Gray spot-kick.

The early pace of the Foxes’ play soon disappeared, but the hosts were clearly lacking in conviction and confidence after recent results.

Just as it seemed we were heading for a goalless first half, two goals came in the final five minutes.

First, youngster James Justin kept the ball in play, Ayoze Perez nodded it back into the danger zone and Iheanacho headed home from close range.

Then, West Ham suddenly turned up and were level on the stroke of half-time as Ryan Fredericks played in Felipe Anderson, who squared the ball to the unmarked Pablo Fornals and he made no mistake.

It was a sign of what they can deliver and have for much of Manuel Pellegrini’s reign, which makes it even more surprising why their form has dipped so badly in recent months.

Manuel Pellegrini has been sacked after West Ham suffered a 1-2 defeat at home against Leicester City in Premier League
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini looks upset after losing 1-2 at home to Leicester City

They were behind again 11 minutes after the restart as Gray made amends for his earlier spot-kick, clipping in after good work and direct running from Perez.

And that was that as West Ham rarely looked like gaining an equaliser for the remainder of the half as the Hammers lost four Premier League home fixtures in a row for the first time since January 2006.

Boos from the Hammers fans greeted the final whistle and if there were SBOBET Premier League 2019 betting odds on who would be the next top-flight manager to be sacked, Pellegrini would be odds-on.

Yet many of his players are letting him down right now and the Chilean deserves better. Whether he gets much longer remains to be seen.

Credit to Leicester. They deserved this win, and after a bad week, they are up and running again and stay second.

Key statistics

Gray is the third different Leicester player to miss a penalty and score in the same Premier League game after Jamie Vardy and Graham Fenton.

Leicester have now missed their last two Premier League penalties that were not taken by Vardy. James Maddison missed against Cardiff City on December 29, 2018.

Fornals is the 151st different Premier League goalscorer for West Ham, two more than any other side.

Iheanacho has been directly involved in five goals in his last four Premier League appearances for Leicester (three goals, two assists), as many as in his previous 31 for the club.

West Ham have won just one of the past 10 Premier League meetings (drawn four, lost six) and are only a solitary point clear of the drop zone.

Leicester are unbeaten in five Premier League away games against West Ham, having lost seven of their previous eight in the top flight.

Leicester conceded seven goals in the back-to-back defeats by Manchester City and Liverpool, one more than they had in their previous 11 league matches.

The Foxes have now gone four Premier League matches unbeaten in London for the first time.

What’s next?

West Ham are home again in four days time as they host Bournemouth on New Year’s Day before travelling to Gillingham in the third round of the FA Cup. A defeat there would surely spell the end for the current management team (if they are still in charge).

Leicester bring in the new year at Newcastle and then host 2013 winners Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

Premier League Burnley vs Manchester United: Red Devils Get Some Christmas Cheer

Burnley 0-2 Manchester United

Manchester United moved up to fifth in the table after a goal at the end of each half won them all three points against Burnley.

The last top-flight fare of the day, Premier League Burnley vs Manchester United, turned out to be a game of two halves as the Red Devils totally dominated the first half before Burnley came alive in the second.

Anthony Martial took advantage of some calamitous defending to put United ahead on 43 minutes, and Marcus Rashford, who is having the season of his career, netted his 12th goal of the season deep into injury time.

This SBOBET writer is a Burnley fan, Claret through and through, and I’ll be honest. If the Red Devils had been two up at the break, that would have been about right. But then, if the Clarets had played in the first half like they did in the second, it might just have been a different story.

But hey…that’s football folks!

Highlights of the game

Much of the pre-match Burnley vs Manchester United news surrounded the likelihood of Paul Pogba making a start after coming off the bench in the recent games against Watford and Newcastle United. But he was conspicuous by his absence, not even named on the bench.

With both teams keen to exert their influence on the game early, and with two sets of passionate fans, it was always going to be a spicy affair.

Clarets wing-back Phil Bardsley put his mark on the game -- and United youngster Brandon Williams – to become the first of four Burnley players to work their way into the referee’s notebook.

But the Red Devils were well on top throughout the first half. Rashford came close to opening the scoring twice, first with a swerving free-kick punched away by Nick Pope, and then he clipped the outside of the post with a 20-yard snapshot.

Marcus Rashford scores a late goal to take Manchester United to victory against Burnley in Premier League
Marcus Rashford celebrates after scoring a late goal during Manchester United's Premier League clash against Burnley

Martial almost scored after the ball ricocheted around the Burnley penalty area and landed at his feet some ten yards out, but his goal-bound shot was blocked on the line by Bardsley.

When the breakthrough finally came, it was gift-wrapped by the Burnley defence. Charlie Taylor, who’d been Burnley’s most attacking threat, dallied in possession deep in his own half, and Andreas Pereira took advantage, squaring for Martial to fire under Pope and into the net.

Sean Dyche must have given his players a rocket at the break after seeing his team spend the first half devoid of creative ideas, and they came out playing at a higher tempo and passing the ball with purpose.

Young winger Dwight McNeil started to stretch the United defence and when he found space in the penalty area, he fired a shot wide of de Gea’s left-hand post. And the Red Devils keeper was at his best to keep out a low drive from Bardsley as the Clarets ramped up the pressure.

Burnley threw the kitchen sink at United and pinged balls into the box. But with all ten outfield players in the attacking third, they were caught by a lightning break finished off by Rashford with the last kick of the game.

Key statistics

The pre-match Burnley vs Manchester United betting odds had the Red Devils at 1.94 to win and they fully justified that position, winning the shot count by 14 to eight.

In a tempestuous affair, there was a foul almost every three minutes, Burnley committing 17 of the 27 and earning four of the seven cards.

And thanks to Burnley’s lack of ambition in the first 45 minutes and a fine David de Gea save in the second half, United kept a first clean sheet in 15 games.

What’s next?

The Red Devils followed a disastrous performance at Watford with a much better showing against Newcastle and did a professional job to dispatch the Clarets tonight.

Over the next week or so, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team have three big games in three different competitions. They travel to the Emirates to face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on New Year's Day before travelling to Wolves for a 3rd Round FA Cup tie. And then they host Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The Wolves stunned the Sky Blues in a five-goal thriller at Molyneux last night, a result which all but ended City’s Premier League defence and so Pep Guardiola will be determined to win the rest of the silverware on offer.

Next up, the Clarets have a home game against struggling Aston Villa on New Year's Day, before hosting League One side Peterborough in the FA Cup. Dyche will want to see more of his team’s second-half endeavour, particularly against the Villans.

Premier League: Chelsea Look to Continue Dominance over Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Chelsea

Chelsea have hit quite a rough patch in recent weeks. Frank Lampard's men have been racking up the losses in the Premier League at an alarming rate, which has seen their top-four spot under threat.

The Blues will now look to put all of that behind them and begin 2020 with a bang as they face Brighton on the first day of the New Year.

The Seagulls scored a much-needed victory at home against Bournemouth, which snapped a four-match winless run.

The Premier League 2019 betting odds are much closer than usual given Chelsea's recent struggles, so the Seagulls will like their chances of claiming their first-ever points against the Londoners.

Talking Points

Brighton once again cash in at the Amex

Brighton suffered a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Boxing Day, which prolonged their disastrous run of poor form. They'd now gone four straight games without victory (two draws, two losses) and had gone winless in seven of their last eight with five defeats, with their shock 2-1 away win at Arsenal sandwiched in between.

However, they finally put an end to that horrific skid by beating Bournemouth at home, 2-0. They went ahead through a third-minute goal from Alireza Jahanbaksh and Aaron Mooy sealed all three points 11 minutes from time.

It was the first clean sheet Brighton had kept in eight matches. Their last clean sheet came all the way back at the start of November with a 2-0 home win over Norwich.

The Seagulls have been significantly better at home this season. They've picked up four of their six wins thus far at the Amex and have scored 14 of their 24 goals.

They had not won their last three home games prior to beating Bournemouth, but they faced tough games against Leicester, Wolves, and Sheffield United, who are all inside the top eight at the moment.

Their away record, in comparison, has been quite poor. They've lost six of their 10 away matches, with two wins and two draws. Their away record, with just eight points picked up, is 16th in the entire league.

Chelsea can't find the right combination

Chelsea's recent Premier League 2019 results do not make for pleasant reading. Prior to their match at Arsenal, the Blues had lost five of their last seven league matches, which comes on the heels of six consecutive victories.

It seemed as if they had turned the corner following a fine 2-0 win away to Tottenham. But they sank right back down after a 2-0 home defeat to Southampton. It was another disappointing effort for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where they've lost three of their last four games at their home ground without even scoring a goal.

Frank Lampard is desperately trying to find a solution to Chelsea's current problems. He stuck with the back-three he played in the Tottenham win against the Saints, but it wasn't nearly as effective.

But on the bright side, Mateo Kovacic is eligible to return in midfield after serving a one-match suspension against Southampton, while Mason Mount could be drafted back into the starting XI.

Chelsea fans hope to see Christian Pulisic start in their Premier League match vs Brighton
Chelsea's Christian Pulisic during the warm up before the match

Christian Pulisic is also waiting in the wings. The American hasn't started in the last couple of matches and should be relatively fresh. If he doesn't pick up a knock against Arsenal, he should be in strong contention to start against Brighton.

History

Chelsea have had Brighton's number ever since the Seagulls made their way into the Premier League. The Blues have won all five of their league encounters, with Brighton scoring just a single goal in those five games.

That includes their first meeting this season at Stamford Bridge. Two second-half goals from Jorginho and Willian saw Chelsea come away with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Betting Tip

??

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Chelsea Chelsea 1X2 @ 1.96
January 01, 20:30 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have Chelsea favoured at 1.96 as the away side, with Brighton a 3.75 home underdog. Meanwhile, a draw is priced at 3.40.

It's true that Brighton have been much more competitive at home and could potentially present some problems. But I'm not going to overthink this match. Chelsea are simply a superior side despite their recent slide.

It's simply a matter of time before they get back on track, and I believe that Brighton is just the opponent that can help them accomplish that goal. The potential reinsertion of Pulisic, in particular, is an obvious card that Lampard can play and could make a major difference.

Look for the Blues to beat the Seagulls and pick up some valuable three points away from home.

Premier League: Same Old Arsenal Shows Scale of Arteta Task

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

Since his Premier League debut in February last year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored more goals in the competition (45) than any other player - one more than both Jamie Vardy and Mohamed Salah (44).

One wonders how far adrift Arsenal would be with Sbobet Premier League betting odds without the Gabon international’s goals.

That new boss Mikel Arteta is able to call upon the regular marksman will surely make his task to restore Arsenal to a title-challenging team that bit easier.

However, if ever a game summed up the wider difficulties he has inherited, this was it.

This clash in the capital was feisty in places and even saw referee Craig Pawson brandish nine yellow cards.

But, despite showing signs of spirit and improvement, all the talk will be about the way Arsenal’s deficiencies were brutally exposed yet again.

Highlights of the game

Thirteen minutes in and, if Chelsea are superstitious, they were cursing falling behind.

It proved to be one of the few Premier League highlights in the opening half as Mesut Ozil delivered a corner from the left, Calum Chambers flicked the ball on and there was Aubameyang to send a flying header beyond Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Without creating a great deal, the hosts were the better side, even after the blow - just seven minutes after the opening goal - of losing Chambers with what appeared to be a twisted knee.

The next substitution didn’t appear to be prompted by an injury but a sign that Chelsea were struggling in the middle of the park as Frank Lampard switched things around by replacing left-wing back Emerson with central midfielder Jorginho – a change that was to prove pivotal.

Going into the closing stages, Chelsea had not threatened, other than when young substitute Tariq Lamptey found Tabby Abraham whose shot was expertly blocked by former Chelsea man David Luiz (his last game for Chelsea was against Arsenal in last season’s Europa League Final).

And they were lucky to still have 11 players on the park when Jorginho escaped a second yellow card for a cynical foul on Lucas Torreira.

Yet eight minutes from time, the Italian levelled up matters after the largely untested Bernd Leno completely missed a Mason Mount in-swinging free-kick which allowed Jorginho – a much more confident player in west London this term - the simplest of tap-ins.

Then with Arsenal looking to restore the lead, Antonio Rudiger made a crucial headed clearance, Willian – hero of their win in north London seven days ago – broke clear and played two precise one-twos with Abraham for the young Englishman to drill the ball past Leno.

Cue ecstasy for Chelsea, anguish for Arsenal as they lost four consecutive home fixtures in all competitions for the first time in 60 years.

It meant the Gunners were also slipping to a third successive top-flight home defeat for the first time since the spring of 1977.

Arsenal will start 2020 11 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and without a Premier League home win since October 6.

Arteta’s task has been well and truly laid bare.

Key statistics

This was the first time in 68 home Premier League games that Arsenal have lost when leading at the break.

This was also the first time the Gunners have lost a Premier League home game against Chelsea when they have scored first (won 11, drawn four).

This was Arsenal’s 26th goal of the league season - 13 have been scored by Aubameyang.

This was Chelsea’s second victory in their past eight matches at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have conceded at least twice at the Emirates in their past five fixtures in league and cup. They last did so in five games in December 1965.

Chelsea celebrates victory at the end of their Premier League match with Arsenal
Frank Lampard celebrates with Chelsea players at the end of the match vs Arsenal

Leno has made seven errors directly leading to an opposition goal in the Premier League since the beginning of last season, the most of any player.

Chelsea have kept just two clean sheets in their 11 last league fixtures.

The Blues are one of two Premier League teams yet to register an away draw this term, the other being Newcastle.

Only champions Manchester City (27) have scored more away goals than Chelsea’s tally of 24.

What’s next?

This was the first of three successive home matches for Arsenal. Manchester United are the visitors to the Emirates Stadium on New Year’s night before Leeds United come to town in the third round of the FA Cup on January 6.

Chelsea are at Brighton on New Year’s Day and then host Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup four days later.

Premier League: VAR Helps Liverpool Tame the Wolves

Liverpool 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

A first-half strike from Sadio Mane was enough to tighten Liverpool’s grip on the league title race after a hard-fought battle with Wolves.

It was the last big game of the weekend and Premier League Liverpool vs Wolves lived up to expectations, full of drama and yet more VAR controversy. The win takes Liverpool 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand and, crucially, 17 clear of reigning champions Manchester City before the Blues played Sheffield United tonight.

Having watched his side stun City in a five-goal thriller, Nuno Espirito Santo rang the changes for this game, resting goal scorers Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez as part of four switches, and the refreshed line-up gave the Reds a tough examination. The pre-match Liverpool vs Wolves betting odds had the Reds at 1.28 to win, but it was by no means that easy.

Highlights of the game

Liverpool started as if they wanted to finish this game quickly and Mo Salah should have scored on four minutes. He began a move which led to Trent Alexander-Arnold pinging a cross right into the path of the unmarked Egyptian but with the goal at his mercy he blasted over.

Georginio Wijnaldum, Roberto Firmino and Salah all had efforts denied by Rui Patricio, while Alexander-Arnold, who was highly impressive in Liverpool’s 0-4 destruction of Leicester City, was in fine form again, firing a brilliant cross into the danger area which the Wolves defence just managed to clear before Mane pounced.

Liverpool were ahead on 42 minutes when a long ball forward bounced off the shoulder of Adam Lallana into the path of Mane and the Senegalese striker stroked the ball home. Referee Anthony Taylor blew for handball but the decision was reviewed at Stockley Park, and moments later his decision was over-ruled and the goal stood.

We’ve seen many a VAR farce already this season and when Wolves thought they’d scored a first-half injury time equaliser we had another. After the Reds cleared a cross the ball was recycled to Jonny on the right wing and he pulled the ball back to Pedro Neto who fired low into the bottom left corner. Nuno celebrated but moments later he was booked for complaining at a VAR wait. And his misery was compounded when the goal was ruled out because Jonny’s hand was marginally offside in the build-up.

Wolverhampton Wanderers end 2019 at the 7th place of the Premier League\
Nuno Espiritu Santo is booked by the referee for complaining at a VAR wait

Take a look at the Liverpool vs Wolves highlights package, the decision didn’t make much sense to me! It was the fourth such VAR call of the weekend and fans are beginning to lose patience.

After a quieter start to the second half Nuno threw on substitutes Jimenez, Traore and Romain Saiss, and they all came close as Wolves tried to break down the Red wall of resistance, and Alisson was called on to make a strong save from Diogo Jota.

Key statistics

It was Liverpool’s 17th home win in a row and the 50th unbeaten at Anfield in the Premier League. The Reds have still only dropped two points in an incredible first half of the season.

But this game was far from easy. While the hosts had 63 per cent possession, the shot count was level at ten each, with Liverpool edging shots on target by three to two.

But in VAR terms it was Liverpool 2 Wolves 0!

What’s next?

Next up Wolves are away to relegation-threatened Watford on New Years Day, where Nigel Pearson’s Hornets will be full of confidence having just beaten fellow strugglers Aston Villa.

And then Nuno’s side has a big FA Cup tie to look forward to at home to Manchester United. Both teams have a decent chance in the oldest cup competition in the world, but their head coaches will be juggling their resources again in the hectic Christmas schedule.

The FA Cup tie of the round is at Anfield for the Merseyside cup derby. Everton are the visitors next Sunday and that will be a battle royal. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti has begun his reign at Goodison Park with two wins and the Toffees fans will be relishing this game for the first time in quite a while.

The latest SBOBET odds have Liverpool second favourite for the Cup at 6.00 (behind Manchester City) with Everton at 26.00 as likely quarter-finalists if they make it past the Reds.

Before that Liverpool have a home game against Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United who have surprised everybody this season and have given themselves a great chance to earn a second term at the top table.

Premier League: Old Foes Meet at the Emirates

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Arsenal vs Manchester United is always a game to look forward to; and what a great way to start the year!

The Gunners meet the Red Devils at the Emirates on New Years Day and a packed home crowd will be there in hope of seeing their new head coach, Mikel Arteta, get his first big win against an old enemy.

Moreover, the Red Devils are climbing steadily up the Premier League table, now up to fifth, and Arsenal will be keen to follow that path as they languish below halfway.

In fairness, there won’t be too many Arsenal or Manchester United fans queuing up for the Premier League 2019 highlights packages. They just hope the New Year brings more cheer than the last. In recent times, when Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger locked horns, these two great clubs fought it out annually for the league title, but last season they finished in fifth and sixth.

Expectations may be a little more subdued than in the glory days, but this clash is likely to be as fierce as ever. The latest Arsenal vs Manchester United betting odds can hardly separate the two sides, both around 2.60 to win, se we’re set for a cracker in North London.

Talking Points

Mikel is up to the job

Defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, and the manner in which it came, show’s the scale of Arteta’s task at the Emirates, though there were plenty of encouraging signs for the new boss before his side was turned over in the last ten minutes. The Gunners seemed to lack durability and ran out of steam before defensive frailties let Chelsea in.

But for the majority of the game Arsenal were in control and playing some fast and fluent football. David Luiz looked imperious at the back, maybe inspired by opposing his former team-mates, and Arsenal’s explosive start in attack was just what the Emirates faithful had been hoping for on Arteta’s return.

The new boss had talked about re-connecting the fans with the team and playing attacking, exciting football and in the first half the supporters got exactly that. And Mesut Ozil, for so long out on the cold, was back to his best as he linked up play brilliantly just behind frontman Alexandre Lacazette.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno will be disappointed by his failure to stop Chelsea’s equaliser but he’s been a great asset for the Gunners all season and Arteta will be relying on him to put that behind him.

A year ago Arsenal were fifth in the table and that will be Arteta’s minimum aim. They are currently in 12th, but a win on Wednesday would take the Gunners to within four points of the Red Devils.

Ole searching for consistency

Manchester United seem to be moving steadily in the right direction, but they have struggled to put a run together. Impressive wins over Spurs and Manchester City were followed by a draw with Everton and a nightmare loss away to Watford. Since then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has guided his team to back-to-back wins again, at home to Newcastle and away to Burnley.

The clean sheet against the Clarets was United’s first in 15 games and that’s a problem for any side aiming for the top four. With the transfer window about to open Solskjaer can strengthen, but so far he’s been looking for a frontman. The Red Devils have been tracking Erling Braut Haaland but he’s off to Dortmund, so they could turn their attention to Lyon’s Moussa Dembele.

I’m not so sure that should be the priority. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were on target again in Manchester United’s 0-2 win at Turf Moor and are in great form.

Marcus Rashford has now scored 12 goals in the Premier League
Manchester United's Marcus Rashford celebrates scoring their second goal

Auba vs Marcus

Goals are the staple diet for SBOBET Premier League writers and we love a battle between two in-form strikers. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Rashford sit second and joint third in the Premier League top scorers list, with 13 and 12 goals respectively, and both will be good bets to score on New Year’s Day.

This is Rashford’s best season so far while Aubameyang has been a top scorer in the Premier League for two years.

History

Manchester United have had the best in the head-to-head meetings between these two sides in the Premier League era, with 31 victories to Arsenal’s 18, and there have been 16 draws

Arsenal won this game 2-0 last season but haven’t won in their last five games, and have gone seven matches without winning at the Emirates.

Betting Tip

??

Arsenal vs Manchester United Arsenal Draw no Bet @ 1.98
January 02, (04:00 (GMT+8)

This is sure to be a great contest and the odds, with Arsenal at 2.62, Manchester United at 2.58 and the draw at 3.30, show how close it’s likely to be.

Arteta will want his team to build on their attacking performance against Chelsea, while United will be happy to sit back and play on the break. Whichever defence can cope best with the serious threat they both face will be the unsung heroes.

Premier League: Two Managerial Masters Welcome in 2020

Manchester City vs Everton

Two of the big beasts of football management are about to clash in the Premier League for the first-ever time.

What better way to see in a new decade and a new year I hear you ask.

Premier League highlights guaranteed, right?

Talking Points

Well, possibly. Except one man is in charge of the champions. A side which, on its day, is the number one team in the country.

The other has taken over a, if not sleeping giant, certainly a club which has stirred only too infrequently over the past three decades.

Carlo Ancelotti has inherited an Everton side which, at times, has struggled to maintain its top-flight status. Since leaving Parma in the late 1990s the wily Italian coach has never managed a club not challenging for championships, so this is a whole new experience for him, but one he is seemingly relishing.

There have been signs of improvement in recent weeks. During their last visit to Manchester little over a fortnight ago under caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson, Everton managed to secure a 1-1 draw.

They then drew with Arsenal and have won their opening two matches since Ancelotti was appointed, including a 2-1 triumph at Newcastle last weekend.

Premier League: Can Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again shine for Everton when they play against Manchester City?
Dominic Calvert-Lewin celebrates after scoring for Everton against Newcastle United

What’s more Man City boss Pep Guardiola has yet to defeat Ancelotti, losing both of their previous meetings.

They met in a two-legged 2013 Champions League semi-final, which included a now infamous 4-0 win in Munich and an aggregate hammering.

This match presents the biggest test of Ancelotti’s brief tenure at Everton and, while his new side may be five unbeaten in five matches the league, City at the Etihad is an entirely different proposition.

City returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday to move them a point behind second-placed Leicester City, and they have won four of their past seven games against Everton.

The champs have also won 41 of their previous 48 home league matches, while Everton have lost 25 of their past 48 on the road in the top flight and have won just twice on their travels this term.

Furthermore, City have kept a clean sheet in only two of their past 10 outings and have conceded in all but two of the past 15 matches in all competitions, yet Everton have not kept a clean sheet away from home in the league since the goalless draw with Crystal Palace on the opening day.

This should not be goalless!

History

Everton remain without a win at Manchester City since December 2010 yet did manage a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium two seasons ago.

At the time, that was the third successive draw between the sides at the ground.

Then Wayne Rooney’s opener was cancelled out by a late Gabriel Jesus equaliser in a match in which both sides finished with 10 men – the hosts played the entire second half a man down.

It was preceded by a 1-1 draw in 2016/17 when Romelu Lukaku put the visitors in front before Nolito equalised for Guardiola’s men.

It was a goalless draw the season before that.

Yet last season, City ran out 3-1 winners with goals from Jesus (two) and Raheem Sterling.

City did get the better of Everton at home in 2016, winning the League Cup semi-final second leg 3-1 (4-3 on aggregate), thanks to a late Sergio Aguero goal to seal a place in the Wembley final where they beat Merseyside neighbours Liverpool in a penalty shoot-out.

The overall history in this fixture could hardly be closer. City have 72 wins to Everton’s 68 victories with 47 meetings ending all square.

Their most recent meeting came in September at Goodison Park when City clinched a 3-1 success, thanks to goals from Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Sterling.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted for the home side.

Betting Tip

??

Manchester City vs Everton Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.35
January 02, 01:30 (GMT+8)

City are firm favourites with the SBOBET Premier League betting odds – when aren’t they at home!

You can back them 1X2 @ 1.29 with Everton well adrift @ 8.75. The draw – which would have been a good bet in recent times – is not really expected so is offered @ 5.60.

With Asian Handicap odds, how about City -2.00 @ 2.25, while the Toffees are +1.50 @ 2.16.

Even over 3.75 goals only pays out @ 2.23, total goal 2-3 @ 2.35 and total goal 4-6 @ 2.20.

A repeat of last season’s corresponding fixture – correct score 3-1 – is available @ 8.50.

I feel City will edge this but my three-star prediction is Total Goal 2-3 @ 2.35.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)

Premier League: Liverpool Aim to Slice Through the Blades

Liverpool vs Sheffield United

It’s a new year here in the Premier League, and what better way to kick off 2020 than an exciting match between the Reds and the Blades tomorrow in Anfield.

Liverpool have been nothing short of brilliant this season as they are yet to be defeated. They are the league leaders in the table with 55 points and they lead by a whopping 13 points against the second placers in Leicester City. They are the heavy favourites to win it all after this season based on our Premier League 2020 odds.

The Reds will face the eighth-seeded Blades who have been taking care of business as of late. They are, however, in a midst of a grueling two-game road trip.

Sheffield United have failed to register a point to end the year after losing against Manchester City. But overall, Chris Wilder’s side has done pretty well for themselves this campaign.

The Blades can rise up to as high as the fifth seed should they do the improbable against the Reds and for sure they’ll do all they can to pull it off.

SBOBET kicks off the New Year with a preview of this highly-anticipated match.

Talking Points

Liverpool looking to surpass The Invincibles

It seems real now for the Reds as they are at the cusp to return to championship glory in the Premier League, and what a perfect time to be a Reds fan!

While the defending champions in Manchester City have been trying their best to hold on to their trophy, they suffered some key losses that may have derailed their campaign.

On the other hand, Liverpool kept on winning and they don’t seem to know when to stop. Jurgen Klopp has done a fantastic job in steering his men to new heights and they are expected to produce a lot of Premier League 2020 highlights.

Liverpool’s attack in particular has been frightening against opponents’ defences. They are currently third in the league with 47 goals scored so far this season.

Sadio Mane and Mo Salah continue to hum along as the team’s options up front. They have recorded 19 goals and six assists already this term.

In the midfield, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, and Georginio Wijnaldum continue to make life miserable for their counterparts. Their mix of technical skill, athleticism, and veteran smarts has been instrumental for Jurgen Klopp’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Of course, how can we forget their vaunted backline? After all, they have only given up 14 goals this term, leading the Premier League in the process.

Virgil Van Dijk is still the best centre-back in the world and he is dubbed as the club’s greatest signing ever. With his aerial prowess and leadership at the defence, he makes his £76-M contract back then look like a big bargain.

Even with the likes of Fabinho, Joel Matip, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out, Klopp’s brilliance at the helm should bode well for the Reds. They are on track to surpass The Invincibles with the way they are going, and this year’s title is theirs to lose.

Chris Wilder's men are currently sitting on the 8th spot of Premier League table
Chris Wilder applauds fans in Sheffield United's match against Manchester City

Sheffield United are the real deal

The Blades have never lost consecutive league games this season, and they are hopeful to keep that trend by upsetting the Reds tomorrow.

Sheffield United started their two-game road trip with a 2-0 loss against Manchester City as Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne took turns in smashing in one goal apiece.

However, even with their recent setback, one can’t help but look back to the great year that Sheffield United have experienced.

The last 12 months will live long in the memory of their fans as they’ve witnessed their squad quickly adapt to being in the top-flight after winning automatic promotion last term.

Lys Mousset has been excellent since signing a £10-M contract last July 2019. He is their top scorer with five goals already this season.

The high-flying Blades aren’t really that formidable on their attack, as they’ve relied on to their astute defence for the most part by conceding only 19 goals this season.

The combo of John Egan, Jack O’Connell, and Chris Basham has been a fortress for Sheffield United, but they will face a gargantuan test in handling Liverpool’s fierce attack.

History

Sheffield United have only won one of their last 13 away matches against Liverpool in all competitions (D1, L12). Their last win against Liverpool dates back to 1994 when Jostein Flo scored two goals for the visitors.

The Merseysiders have won all 11 of their home league games against newly-promoted sides under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp. They’ve also scored 33 goals while conceding only four in those fixtures.

Betting Tip

??

Liverpool vs Sheffield United Liverpool Asian Handicap -1.25 @ 1.70
January 03, 04:00 (GMT+8)

Liverpool are expected to win in this match based on the 1x2 market. They are placed at 1.30, while Sheffield United are at 9.75. Chances for a draw are pegged at 5.00.

But the Blades should come in here and make things a little interesting in Anfield and Jurgen Klopp’s side may not churn out a high-scoring performance than most would expect.

Either way, however, it’s safe to place your bets on a Liverpool win on this one. I see this ending up with a 1-0 victory for the Reds.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)

Premier League: New Decade Provides Glimpse of New Hero?

Manchester City 2-1 Everton

As a new decade begins in the Premier League, many of us have been looking back at the past decade of Premier League 2020 highlights.

For this SBOBET observer, the outstanding player in the country during that period has been an Argentine maverick.

Reigning champions Manchester City recorded 251 league wins over the decade – more than any other team – and it was Sergio Aguero whose tally of 174 goals over the decade was a Premier League-high. He also scored the most hat-tricks (11).

Their Premier League 2020 betting odds will always diminish when the club’s all-time record scorer is not in the team, but here at the start of a new one was a sign that perhaps his long-term successor is already in place.

Highlights of the game

Step forward Gabriel Jesus, whose second-half double ensured City got 2020 off to a winning start and showed again he could be more than a very able deputy.

He has now been directly involved in 69 goals in 75 starts for City in all competitions (53 goals, 16 assists).

This was also a first victory, at the third attempt, for Pep Guardiola against his opposite number Carlo Ancelotti. Two managerial masters going head-to-head.

The veteran Italian was responsible for Guardiola’s heaviest home defeat as a manager when Real Madrid defeated Bayern Munich 4-0 in the 2014 Champions League semi-finals.

Unsurprisingly for a side with such a wealth of talent, it was all City, even though Everton restricted them well during much of the first half and also saw the promising Phil Foden have a goal correctly ruled out for offside early on.

Yet City are so often irresistible at home, even against dogged opponents, and finally broke through.

It took them just seven minutes into the second half, in fact, as Jesus latched onto an Ilkay Gundogan pass, cut inside and curled a delightful finish into the top corner.

Only the VAR check to see whether the Brazilian was offside delayed the natural emotion of the opener – it’s spoiling the game at the moment.

Everton responded well and came close to an immediate equaliser, but in-form frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with five goals in his last five Premier League appearances (as many as in the previous 28), headed inches wide.

Jesus soon doubled the advantage after Foden found Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian moved the ball on swiftly for the striker to drill a low, confident finish into the net.

Home reserve goalkeeper Claudio Bravo made his latest mistake when he gave the ball away at the edge of the box to Moise Kean and Calvert-Lewin crossed to the far post where Richarlison was able to run clear and pull one back.

Everton fail to grab a Premier League victory against defending champions Man City
Richarlison scores Everton's lone goal against Manchester City

However, City were not to be denied and, but for a fine Pickford save and a post which kept out a thunderous left-footed strike, Jesus would have had a hat-trick and the match ball.

As it was, he and City will be more happy to have claimed three more deserved points.

Key statistics

This game was only the fourth Premier League match in which a Brazilian scored for both sides (excluding own goals), after Liverpool v Spurs in March 2019, Chelsea v Liverpool in October 2015 and Middlesbrough v Man City in May 2008.

Jesus has scored more Premier League goals against Everton (seven) than any other opponent, scoring in just his last five appearances against them.

City are on a club-record run of five straight wins against Everton in the top flight.

Everton are winless in nine Premier League away encounters at City since a 2-1 victory in December 2010 (drawn four, lost five).

City have won six of their past seven Premier League home games and their opening match of the calendar year in the past eight campaigns, as well as all seven Premier League home games on New Year's Day.

They have dropped 19 points in 21 league matches this season, compared to 14 points in the entire 2017-18 campaign and 16 in 2018-19.

This was Everton’s first defeat in seven matches since the sacking of Marco Silva, winning three and drawing three (the League Cup exit against Leicester was on penalties).

The Toffees have won only three of their 16 Premier League fixtures on New Year’s Day, losing 11 and drawing two.

What’s next?

It’s FA Cup third-round weekend. City are home to Port Vale on Saturday (January 4), while Everton have the Merseyside derby and face Liverpool the following day.

City then go to city rivals Man Utd in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals next Tuesday.

Premier League: Arteta Scores Maiden Win Over Mediocre Man United

Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United

Mikel Arteta is finally off the mark at Arsenal. After a draw and a defeat in his first two Premier League games in charge, the new Gunners boss picked up the first win of his managerial career with a convincing 2-0 triumph over Manchester United at the Emirates. The home side came in as the favourites according to Premier League 2020 odds and they played like it. They dominated the first half as Nicolas Pepe gave them the lead inside 10 minutes, and Sokratis added a second just before half-time. As for United, it was another listless display as they remain unable to string together consistently good performances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Highlights of the game

United started brightly enough as they got off the first shot of the match within the first 25 seconds. Marcus Rashford, who once again got on the scoresheet in their 2-0 win over Burnley, tried his luck from distance. But his effort was comfortably saved by Bernd Leno, who was eager to redeem himself after last week's disastrous error in their 2-1 loss against Chelsea. It took the home side eight minutes to get their first shot of the game, and they scored from it. Sead Kolasinac's cutback was deflected toward the path of Nicolas Pepe, and Arsenal's record signing expertly slotted past David de Gea to put the Gunners in front. Arsenal came close to doubling their advantage just a couple of minutes later. Pepe was once again involved as he crossed toward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners' skipper came into the match in fine form after scoring in each of his last two games, but his acrobatic volley went way over the bar. Alexandre Lacazette hadn't been quite as prolific in front of goal of late, and it showed after he missed a great chance just after the half-hour mark. The French forward did well to spin away from United skipper Harry Maguire, but he got his shot with the outside of his left foot all wrong. Moments later, Lucas Torreira applied a similar spin move at the edge of the box and his left-footed effort was much closer toward goal. However, it just whistled past de Gea's left-hand post. The Gunners continued to pile on the pressure, and it nearly paid off. Lacazette's press forced de Gea into a poor kick which went to Pepe. The Ivorian unleashed a brilliant strike from just outside the penalty area which beat de Gea. But unfortunately for the home side, it could not beat the post. Eventually, though, Arsenal were rewarded for all their dominance as they doubled their lead. After de Gea could only punch Lacazette's glancing header into the back of Victor Lindelof, Sokratis Papastathopoulos pounced on the rebound from point-blank range.

Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos celebrates with teammates after scoring Arsenal's second goal against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium

United finally started to produce some Premier League 2020 highlights the second half as they looked to get back in the game. They nearly pulled one back just before the hour mark. Andreas Pereira got in behind the Arsenal defence, but he blasted his shot into the side netting. Minutes later, the Gunners very nearly put the game to bed, but Maguire was on hand to quell a dangerous Arsenal counterattack. Solskjaer brought on young Mason Greenwood, and the 18-year-old forced a smart save from Leno at his near post. United had one last great chance to get a consolation deep into stoppage time as Juan Mata found Rashford with a beautifully lofted ball over the top. But Leno bravely got off his line to block Rashford's shot with his chest as he successfully kept his clean sheet.

Key statistics

The final statistics for this match were remarkably even. United just shaded the possession battle, 51 per cent to 49, and the shot totals were identical (10 shots total, four on target for both sides). Although, Arsenal spent virtually the entire second half simply sitting deep and playing on the counterattack due to their two-goal lead. The win snaps Arsenal's run of four games without victory as they climbed up to 10th in the table. Meanwhile, United remain fifth after the two sides below them -- Tottenham and Wolves -- also lost.

What's next?

It's third-round FA Cup weekend this week, and United will have a tough test as they go to Molineux to face Wolves. Of course, it was Wolves who knocked United out of last year's FA Cup in the quarter-final round. As for Arsenal, they have a much easier tie ahead of them as they host Championship side Leeds at the Emirates. Unsurprisingly, they are significant favourites to go through according to the SBOBET odds.

Premier League: Liverpool Keep Rolling With Mane and Salah

Liverpool 2-0 Sheffield United

The red juggernauts in the Premier League just keep on winning. This time, they defeated Sheffield United by posting a clean sheet in front of their faithful fans in Anfield.

Records and milestones keep on being surpassed by Liverpool as they try to not only win their first championship in the Premier League era, but they also have a real shot of achieving a historic feat based on our Premier League 2020 odds.

Liverpool are currently on track to surpass the Invincibles since they are yet to be beaten this term. And if they will keep this up -- barring any major injuries -- I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ll do just that.

Sheffield United did not have the start that they were looking for as Mo Salah scored the first goal in less than five minutes. But they kept on fighting particularly on the defencive end where they thwarted majority of Liverpool’s chances. Otherwise, it would’ve been a goal-fest for the Reds.

However, Liverpool’s overall quality out front proved to be too much for the Blades, and it was capped off by a second-half goal by Sadio Mane as the crowd in Anfield was in pandemonium.

This game may not have featured a lot of Premier League 2020 highlights than expected by Liverpool’s standards. Nonetheless, it was another quality win for the league leaders.

SBOBET offers you a recap of this great match.

Highlights of the game

Liverpool go a year unbeaten in the Premier League after a win against Sheffield United at Anfield
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reacts at the end of their Premier League match with Sheffield United at Anfield Stadium

Eager to stamp their class early, Liverpool got off to a great start by hitting the woodwork right away. And by having two of the top scorers in the Premier League, they simply had their way all evening.

Liverpool’s greatest signing in Virgil Van Dijk ignited an early attack for the Reds as he found Andy Robertson which led to a left volley for a Mo Salah score. Robertson showed his brilliant touch to stay onside, and Salah showed poise when he let out a cool, low finish right past the hands of Sheffield’s Dean Henderson.

David McGoldrick would attempt the Blades’ only real chance of the evening in the seventh minute, as he launched a long distance strike just outside the box. Alisson Becker, meanwhile, showed his fast reflexes by knocking the ball away.

Mo Salah would try his luck a few more times in the first half. Roberto Firmino found him open at the middle of the penalty area in the 13th minute. However, he rushed his shot a bit and his touch was saved by Dean Henderson. The Blades’ goal keeper did a brilliant save once more when Salah had an opening in the 30th minute.

Since then, Sheffield’s backline was put to work for the most part because of Liverpool’s dominance in the possession.

Fast forward to the 60th minute, the Blades almost suffered a humiliating scene when Mo Salah’s volley just hit the side of the goal post and the ball almost went inside the net. Dean Henderson caught the fortuitous bounce or else it would’ve been the Egyptian’s second goal of the night.

Sadio Mane capped off Liverpool’s brilliance by playing give-and-go with Mo Salah in the 64th minute. The Senegal international came determined and fed Salah with a pass in the middle right before he got it back for a goal after his second attempt.

Some pundits thought that the Reds were not quite as sharp as they have been recently since their execution on some plays weren’t as crisp. But even if that’s the case, everything still worked in their favour as they continue to roll.

It remains to be seen on who will hand Liverpool’s first loss of the season.

Key statistics

The Blades have only shot three times compared to 19 for the Reds. Liverpool dominated the possession at 75-per cent while having a whopping pass accuracy of 90-per cent.

Liverpool have compiled 58 points already in their 20 Premier League games this campaign, and the only team that has done that were Manchester City back in 2018.

At the same time, the Reds have scored in their 29th consecutive game in the league. Only two teams have ever recorded a longer scoring streak, and that was Arsenal back in 2001 and 2002 and Manchester United back in 2007 and 2008.

Sheffield United have already lost to Liverpool twice this season.

What’s next?

Liverpool will fly over to Tottenham to face the Spurs on January 12th. Then they will face Manchester United, Wolverhampton, and West Ham to round out their January schedule.

Sheffield United, on the other hand, will host West Ham on January 11th before visiting Arsenal the week after at the Emirates Stadium.

Premier League: Improving Gunners Battle Injury-Ravaged Eagles

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

The Premier League is back after a quick break, and the Eagles and the Gunners will kick off the action at Selhurst Park on this weekend.

After being eliminated in the earlier rounds of the EFL Cup, both Crystal Palace and Arsenal can now fully set their sights on improving their form in the league.

Only one point separates between these two clubs as they are place ninth and tenth at the Premier League standings as of this writing. The Eagles are ninth with 28 points while the Gunners are right behind them with 27.

Both have shown improvement to their respective forms as they’ve only lost once in their last four fixtures, and they would hope to climb up on the table with a win this Saturday.

A victory here could propel themselves to as high as the fifth spot assuming the Red Devils won’t win or draw against Norwich City.

As always, SBOBET is here to give you some points of discussion ahead of this match.

Talking Points

Injury woes for Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson will have the daunting task of maintaining Crystal Palace’s good form recently as he tries to maneuver around some bad luck.

Over the last five matches, the Eagles were only defeated once while they had drawn twice and won only once.

Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha continue to be their focal points at the attack as they’ve accounted for five and three goals so far this season, and much of the burden will be placed on their shoulders come Saturday.

The Eagles are expected to miss up to 11 senior players through injury and suspension, which leaves Hodgson very worried. It’s fair to say that he will be desperate to add new faces to his roster in order to keep his squad competitive.

Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last 3 Premier League matches against Arsenal with 1 win and 2 draws
Roy Hodgson looking worried as Crystal Palace’s injury woe continue

“How many injury problems from bona fide first-team players do you need before someone says, ‘in actual fact it’s very difficult for you to field a team at any point in time’?” lamented Hodgson.

“I’ve never known a situation where so many players are injured. We lost [Mamadou] Sakho in the Norwich game and on Sunday we lost Meyer and Riedewald who were covering for other places,” he added.

The club has reportedly shown interest on bringing Michy Batshuayi back to club on loan from Chelsea. At the same time, they also have their eyes on CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov to further bolster their attack.

Those moves, if it comes into fruition, should come in handy especially since Wilfried Zaha has been linked to a possible transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Mikel Arteta making his presence felt

As each days passes by, it’s starting to look like Mikel Arteta is the right man for the job trying to lead Arsenal to glory anew.

Despite losing to Chelsea before ending the 2019 year, the Spanish manager had already stamped his brand by building good relationships with his key players.

Mesut Ozil and Granit Xhaka are suddenly playing with more inspiration and they look to have fully bought in to Arteta’s free-flowing yet, aggressive system.

On the other hand, Alexander Lacazzette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continue spearhead their attack and they should continue to produce more goals plus some noteworthy Premier League 2020 highlights.

“I want people to take responsibility for their jobs and I want people who deliver passion and energy for this football club,” said Arteta during his hire.

“Anyone who doesn't buy into this, or that has a negative effect or whatever, is not good enough for this environment or this culture,” he added.

From the day he was hired, Arteta kept on harping about changing the club’s culture. Especially after scoring his maiden win against Manchester United, fans over at the Emirates should go back to their winning ways soon.

History

Crystal Palace have been undefeated in their last three Premier League matches against Arsenal (W1, D2). They will be keen on maintaining that record for the fourth straight time.

The Gunners have lost just one of their last 14 road games against the Eagles (W7, D6). Their last away defeat at Selhurst Park dates back to April 2017 with a 3-0 tally.

Arsenal are looking to record back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since winning in the final game during the 2018/19 season and their first two matches this term.

Betting Tip

??

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Arsenal Asian Handicap -0.75 @ 2.16
January 11, 20:30 (GMT+8)

Our Premier League 2020 odds have placed Arsenal at 1.87, Crystal Palace at 3.90, and a draw 3.60 in the 1x2 market.

The Gunners are pegged as the favourites in this one as they have yet to lose in Selhurst Park since 2017. However, Crystal Palace’s unbeaten streak against Arsenal shouldn’t be overlooked either.

I would give Arsenal the advantage here simply because of Crystal Palace’s roster problems. Add along to the fact that team manager Mikel Arteta is making quite an impression with the squad, better days are expected to come for the Gunners.

Premier League: Chelsea Looking For Home Comforts

Chelsea vs Burnley

After a weekend of FA Cup football it’s back to the Premier League, and top four chasing Chelsea have a home game with Burnley to welcome them back.

Frank Lampard’s young team has rightly received plenty of praise as the likes of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have stepped up superbly, and they currently sit in the fourth Champions League place. The visitors are on a sticky run and are in need of an odds-upsetting performance…but I wouldn’t entirely rule it out.

Premier League; Chelsea vs Burnley should, on paper, result in another three points for the Blues but Stamford Bridge has been a happy hunting ground for the Clarets. The recent Chelsea vs Burnley results in London have yielded only two wins for the Blues in six attempts.

Talking Points

Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge Blues

There is another glimmer of hope for the Clarets in their opponents’ recent home form. On Boxing Day Chelsea were beaten 0-2 by improving Southampton, and in their previous home game they lost to Bournemouth, the Cherries only win in their last nine matches.

Lampard’s men did beat Aston Villa, but strugglers West Ham won at the Bridge at the end of November meaning the Blues have lost three from four at home, and all to bottom-half teams.

They have faired much better on the road though; Chelsea stormed back to win a Capital City clash with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal recently, and Lampard’s team has a five-point cushion over fifth-placed Manchester United. But with Spurs and Arsenal now back in the hunt, SBOBET football fans can look forward to a frenetic race to the Champions League line.

Can Jay Rodriguez help Burnley avoid third consecutive defeat in Premier League?
Jay Rodriguez and Sean Dyche celebrate after winning against Bournemouth

Clarets aren’t comfortable yet

From a relatively comfortable position in the top half of the table, a difficult Christmas period has seen the Clarets drop to within four points of the relegation zone. A late defeat to Everton at Goodison Park and a loss at home to Manchester United were bad enough for Burnley, but failing to beat Aston Villa on New Years Day began to sound alarm bells around Turf Moor.

Despite dominating possession at 62 per cent and winning the shot count by 20 to 11, the normally mean Clarets’ defence was strangely generous and their strikers were wasteful in front of goal.

Those three defeats were all by narrow margins (United scored a last-minute breakaway goal as Burnley pushed for an equaliser) and head coach Sean Dyche knows how to get his team to bounce back.

Realistically the Clarets need another four or five wins from the last 17 games to guarantee a fifth successive season in the Premier League, and at odds of 5.00 to go down that shouldn’t be too much of a problem

Jay Rodriguez scored a late winner in a recent clash away to Bournemouth and he could start up front with eight-goal Chris Wood, while Ashley Barnes looks to regain fitness.

Kante can boss the midfield battle

While both Chelsea and Burnley have eye-catching players in both attack and defence, the midfield tussle will be an interesting one as N’Golo Kante and Jorginho come up against Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood. Kante was the most influential figure in Leicester City’s 2016 Premier League win, while Westwood has become the most important name on the Clarets’ team-sheet.

The former Aston Villa man has a real bite in the tackle, is calm on the ball and has a superb dead-ball delivery, but then Kante is a World Cup winner too, and alongside Jorginho should dominate the battle in the middle.

History

In their last meeting, an Autumn clash at Turf Moor, Chelsea ran out 2-4 winners in an entertaining match dominated by Christian Pulisic, who scored a brilliant hat-trick.

But here’s that big statistic to take account of when we decide where to go with our Chelsea vs Burnley betting tips. During the last six meetings at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have won two, drawn three and lost one.

And both teams come into the game with three wins in the last six in all competitions.

Betting Tip

??

Chelsea vs Burnley Burnley Asian Handicap +1.50 @ 2.04
January 11, 23:00 (GMT+8)

At 1.29 to win the odds say Chelsea should coast this game, but that was also the case in their last four home matches of which they won only one.

Burnley are way out there to win at odds of 9.25, with the draw available at 5.40, but I think that maybe a step too far. The Blues are odds on with the -1.50 handicap at 1.89 but expect the Clarets to make the hosts work hard for a win.

Premier League: Foxes Aiming to Pounce on the Saints

Leicester City vs Southampton

Two in-form teams are set to clash this weekend in the Premier League, as the Foxes will host the visiting Saints at the King Power Stadium.

As of this writing, Leicester City are still holding the second spot at the table with 45 points and Manchester City is right behind them at 44 points, while Southampton have improved to the 12th spot at the table with 25 points.

The Foxes are fresh from a draw against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup, as they are fighting to move on to the Finals. Perhaps that’s a great consolation given that Liverpool looks to have the championship already in the bag.

The Saints, on the other hand, have always been constantly flirting with relegation for these past few years. Normally placed at around the 15th to 17th spot, it’s a refreshing sight to see them slowly improve in their standing.

They have won four out of their last five matches and they have also found their groove in the third round of the FA Cup with a win over Huddersfield.

The last time these two faced off in October, it was the Foxes who demoralised the Saints with a 9-0 clean sheet, and the latter would like to quickly erase such bad memory.

SBOBET looks ahead and provides some talking points on this upcoming fixture.

Talking Points

Leicester City looking for reinforcements

The Foxes have regained their rhythm after going through a rough patch few weeks ago.

At the time, they uncharacteristically played poorly in their 1-1 draw against one of the league’s bottom feeders in Norwich, and they lost via a 3-1 tally against the defending champions in Manchester City.

Jamie Vardy and James Maddison continue to flourish with their attacking partnership as they’ve recorded 23 goals and six assists this season so far while producing some of the best Premier League 2020 highlights.

But even with their success upfront, team manager Brendan Rodgers knows that there still work that needs to be done in order to further improve their roster.

The team had reportedly expressed their intention on acquiring a high-quality centre-back to improve their backline while at the same time, they’re finding a long-term successor to Jamie Vardy. Several sources indicate that the Foxes had shown interest to the likes of Merih Demiral and Odsonne Edouard.

However, they’re not alone in their pursuit for Demiral as Arsenal joined in the fray, as the two sides have been making their bids in order to acquire the Turkey national. On the other hand, Leicester will bide their time to possibly sign Edouard for a £30-M deal during the summer.

Brendan Rodgers will probably stick to what he’s got as of the moment. But we can expect the Foxes to be very busy as the transfer window is upon us.

Southampton’s faith in Ralph Hasenhüttl paying off

Southampton had been underwhelming to say the least over these past few seasons. But after a grim December, things have been slowly getting better for the Hampshire-based club.

They almost sank to the relegation zone when they lost against West Ham with a 1-0 score in a game that they could scarcely afford to lose.

Fans over at St. Mary’s Stadium could’ve pushed by Ralph Hasenhüttl ‘s exit but they didn’t, and their patience has been repaid by the superb play of their wards.

The Saints didn’t bow to pressure since then with quality wins against the likes of Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Tottenham. In those games, Southampton averaged 2.0 goals per game in those matches.

Premier League fans fancy Danny Ings to score against Leicester City this weekend
Southampton's Danny Ings scores their first goal against Tottenham Hotspur

Danny Ings continues his strong campaign as he is the league’s second-leading scorer with 13 goals and one assist. However, he may need to draw more production from his teammates such as James Ward-Prowse and Moussa Djenepo.

Nonetheless, Hasenhüttl looks to be the right man for the job and this club’s future is looking bright.

History

As mentioned, Leicester City earned their biggest win in English top-flight history when they annihilated Southampton few months ago. Capped off by Jamie Vardy’s hat-trick, the Foxes scored a 9-0 win over the Saints.

Southampton, however, has improved since then. They have conceded only 13 goals in their last 11 Premier League matches. They have also collected 16 points from their eight previous Premier League matches too.

Betting Tip

??

Leicester City vs Southampton Leicester City Asian Handicap -0.75 @ 1.76
January 11, 23:00 (GMT+8)

The Premier League 2020 odds have put Leicester City at 1.59, Southampton at 5.00, and a draw at 4.10 in the 1x2 market, which is expected given the difference of quality between these two squads.

We already know what the Foxes are capable of, but one shouldn’t overlook at the Saints too. Team boss Ralph Hasenhüttl has done a great job in steering his squad to a better direction.

A 2-1 win in favour of the home team surely looks like a safe bet. But I won’t be surprised either if the Saints can pull off a surprise victory given the way they’re playing right now.

I’m expecting this one to be a cracker and football fans will be in for a huge treat on this one.

Premier League: Spurs Next to Face Liverpool Juggernaut

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool

It has to be someone! And next up, it’s Jose Mourinho's Spurs who have the task of somehow stopping the heirs to the 2020 Premier League title.

Premier League: Spurs vs Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is sure to be a great contest for the neutrals to watch. Liverpool have only dropped two points this season by winning 19 from 20 and Jurgen Klopp still thinks his team has room for improvement.

Jose Mourinho, still relatively new in his job as Spurs head coach, is a master of tactics in these big games. But some may say he’d need to be a miracle worker to stop the Reds, particularly without his best player.

Take a look at the latest SBOBET odds on the title returning to Anfield for the first time in three decades, and you’ll see we’re at 1.04.

That is the size of Jose’s task.

Talking points

Kane out again

The big Spurs vs Liverpool news in the run-up to this game has been the confirmed absence of Whites skipper and talisman Harry Kane. He exited Spurs’ disappointing 1-0 defeat to Southampton on New Years Day, and a new hamstring injury will keep him sidelined for the game against Liverpool.

Kane has been dogged by injury in recent seasons and when he’s out, Spurs need to find a way to replace his goals.

Last season, Heung Min-Son stepped up to take the scoring responsibility. But Kane’s latest setback, along with the absence of Moussa Dembele, is a real headache for Mourinho.

In fairness, his side looked short of ideas before Kane limped off at Southampton. After winning his first three games in charge in North London, Jose’s honeymoon period ended abruptly with a loss to his former club Manchester United.

And following a recent 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea, the Spurs have won only one of the following four matches.

The loss of Christian Eriksen as a committed soldier is the biggest shame for Spurs fans in my opinion. The Dane has been a model of consistency and a creative muscle over the last few seasons, but he is out of contract at the end of the season and has made no secret of his desire to leave Spurs.

Manchester United are showing interest, but Eriksen is more likely to head to Serie A title-chasers Inter Milan.

Without Kane and Eriksen, Mourinho is likely to start with Lucas Moura upfront and with Son in support.

How can the Spurs frustrate Liverpool?

The Reds are full of confidence and full of goals.

Mo Salah and Sadio Mane continue to strike fear into the heart of every Premier League defence, taking Sheffield United apart last week. Mane has 11 and Salah has ten goals as they fire Liverpool to the title.

Salah is at odds of 9.00 to finish top scorer, with Sadio Mane at 11.00. Thet have some ground (six and seven goals) to make up on Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy if they are to win or share the Golden Boot, as they did last year.

Liverpool visit Tottenham Hotspur with the hopes to secure the best-ever start in the 131-year history of Premier League
Sadio Mane receives the award for the African Footballer of the Year

But Mane, who was crowned African Player of the Year this week, loves a challenge!

If Spurs are to stop these two scoring, they need to cut off the supply. Flying wing-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold both hit double figures for assists last season and are well on the way again this term, so Mourinho will set up his team to block the path of these two.

Of course, the Reds can also play through the middle, so this is a good chance for Spurs’ big summer signing Tanguy NDombele to show he is worth the £65-M his club shelled out.

History

Liverpool have won the last three competitive games between these two teams by 2-1, and they have won twice as many contests as their opponents in the 58 meetings since 1993 (28 to 14).

The most recent coming together was at Anfield in October when Kane put Spurs ahead in the first minute only for Jordan Henderson and Salah to grab another win for the Reds with a late penalty.

The visitors are on a six-match winning streak, so it’s no surprise that the pre-match Spurs vs Liverpool betting odds point to another victory for the Reds.

Betting tip

??

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool Correct Score-line 1-2 @ 7.00
January 12, 01:30 (GMT+8)

Spurs are at 4.20 to win this game with Liverpool at 1.73 while the draw is at 3.95. If you think Jose can put on a tactical master class and frustrate the Reds, then a double chance on Spurs or Draw at odds of 2.20.

But I’m backing another Red triumph and a familiar scoreline.

Premier League: Three and Easy Does It for Chelsea

Chelsea 3-0 Burnley

Having lost to Bournemouth and Southampton, Chelsea knew a defeat this afternoon would amount to a third consecutive home Premier League loss for the first time since 1993.

What were the chances of that happening with the SBOBET Premier League 2020 betting odds?

Well, quite frankly, once the hugely reliable Nick Pope had made a rare misjudgement just before the break – no chance!

Chelsea were home and hosed and, as they consolidated fourth place in the table, it’s now seven defeats in nine league games for the Clarets, including one at home to Aston Villa on New Year’s Day (ironically, their next opponents).

That is a run manager Sean Dyche needs to turnaround quickly.

Highlights of the game

Burnley had frustrated Chelsea in the corresponding fixture last season and did so for almost the first half-hour here. Indeed, they could have even led had it not been for Jeff Hendrick’s strike being correctly ruled offside.

That was until Willian was brought down by Matthew Lowton and Jorginho rifled home the resulting spot-kick.

Home manager Frank Lampard would have been well-aware that recent form at Stamford Bridge was below par, so he would have been relieved when they doubled their advantage seven minutes before the break.

Ironically, the goal arrived just as Burnley were threatening an equaliser. Young Tammy Abraham continued his fine form this term by heading downwards and beyond Pope from a cross by another youngster, Reece James.

Without a first-half goal in nine since beating West Ham 3-0 on November 9, Chelsea had scored twice in 11 minutes.

Sean Dyche and Burnley squad are left disappointed following their Premier League defeat to Chelsea
Burnley manager Sean Dyche talks to the linesman during a Premier League match against Chelsea

Four minutes after the break and one of the Premier League 2020 highlights for the home side this term came as Callum Hudson-Odoi notched his first-ever top-flight goal, a right-footed finish from a Cesar Azpilicueta delivery.

Game over and but some fine saves for Pope, a dispirited Burnley could have conceded more.

They do deserve credit for continuing to battle with Dwight McNeill at the heart of their best endeavours. They went close when Ben Mee saw his header hacked off the line by Ross Barkley.

That was as close as they got, though, and they need to quickly end a run which, if it continues, will leave them facing a battle to beat the drop.

When these two sides met in October, Chelsea were inspired by the best performance to date from their new signing Christian Pulisic.

This was far less thrilling but no less important as they look to cement a top-four spot.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was that there was no VAR controversy to write home about, less than 24 hours after the latest one to spoil the game.

Not that there wasn’t elsewhere!

Key statistics

Abraham has scored 13 Premier League goals for Chelsea this season - Lampard is the only Englishman to score more in a single campaign in the competition for the club (on three occasions).

Hudson-Odoi has been directly involved in 12 goals in his 14 starts at Stamford Bridge in all competitions, scoring six and setting up six.

At 19 years, 65days, Hudson-Odoi is the youngest player to score his first Premier League goal for Chelsea since Carlton Cole against Middlesbrough in April 2002 (18years, 197days).

Chelsea have completed a league double over Burnley for the first time since 2009-10, a campaign when Lampard played in both matches.

Burnley have won just one of their 12 Premier League meetings with the west Londoners (drawn three, lost eight).

Five of the six Premier League points claimed by Burnley in this fixture have come at Stamford Bridge.

Burnley have collected just one point in 10 Premier League games this season against teams currently in the top half of the division (drawn one, lost nine), drawing 1-1 with Wolves in August.

Chelsea have lost seven of their 22 league matches, just one fewer than the whole of last season. They have been beaten in five of their past 11 league fixtures.

The Blues have claimed 17 points at Stamford Bridge, in contrast to 22 in away games.

Burnley have won only one of their last 30 league games against established top-six opposition (drawn six, lost 23).

What’s next?

Chelsea go to Newcastle next weekend, and three days later host London rivals Arsenal in what could well be a feisty derby; it's a quick repeat of the fixture from just a fortnight ago.

Brighton, meanwhile, host Aston Villa a week from today and then travel to face another club on the south coast in Bournemouth on January 21.

Premier League Tottenham vs Liverpool: Firmino Fires Reds into Orbit!

Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Liverpool

A cool first-half strike by Roberto Firmino gave Liverpool three more points in a win over Spurs, but it was much, much more than that.

The Premier League Tottenham vs Liverpool Saturday tea-time clash was a tasty a treat as you’d hope for. At times, Liverpool were as good as ever going forward, but Spurs hung in there and had two great chances to level late on.

The Reds hung on for a massive win which takes them 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League, breaking record after record.

Highlights of the game

The Spurs defence has been inconsistent of late, so Jose Mourinho gave a surprise debut to academy defender Japhet Tanganga, and what a start he made to the game.

Jose Mourino is disappointed with Tottenham's 0-1 defeat to Liverpool in recent Premier League match
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho looks dejected after their 0-1 defeat at home against Liverpool

After Liverpool struggled to clear a Christian Eriksen corner, the Reds broke at pace. Firmino collected a ball over the top before cutting inside, but Tanganga was there to make a brilliant block. The rebound landed at the feet of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but his low drive smashed against the post and away to safety.

The young defender will be taking a good look at the Tottenham vs Liverpool highlights tonight, and who can blame him?

Spurs striker Heung-Min Son stepped up to the plate when Harry Kane was injured last season and he looked ready for the task again in the early exchanges. He managed to evade a challenge from Joe Gomez before curling his shot wide.

Sadio Mane and Mo Salah have been in devastating form recently. The two almost combined to open the scoring, but Davinson Sanchez cleared before Salah could pounce.

And then, Paulo Gazzaniga made a fantastic save to deny Virgil van Dijk after the towering defender met a Henderson cross with a bullet header.

But there was little the Spurs stopper could do when Firmino took a pass from Salah and evaded a challenge from Tanganga before firing home.

And Liverpool almost made it two when Salah nicked the ball off Sanchez, but his shot flew inches wide of the post.

Spurs started the second half on the front foot, and when Lucas Moura burst into the box he appeared to be impeded by Jordan Henderson. But he stayed on his feet and sliced his shot wide.

Liverpool fought back and a flowing move found Firmino in space some 15 yards out, but this time he curled his shot into Gazzaniga’s hands.

As the game picked up pace, the crowd responded. Son had a good run, easily beating two defenders but his shot skidded wide. He then had a glorious chance to equalise as Liverpool gave the ball away around 30 yards out. Moura managed to put Son in, but with the goal at his mercy, he leant back and fired over.

And Spurs fans couldn’t believe they weren’t level when Serge Aurier put in a beautiful cross which Giovani Lo Celso met almost too well as his first-time effort flew just wide with Alisson stranded.

Spurs pressed for an equaliser, but at the other end, Divock Origi showed quick feet to beat two defenders and shoot but Gazzaniga got down well to save.

Son had one more chance in the dying seconds but Alisson saved and Liverpool marched on to victory.

Key statistics

The pre-match Tottenham vs Liverpool betting odds had the Reds at 1.73 to win, and in the end, they just about deserved it. Spurs had 14 shots to Liverpool’s 13, but the Reds had seven to Spurs’ four on target.

Liverpool's 20 wins and one draw is the best start ever in the Premier League or any of the big European leagues, and the Reds are now 38 games unbeaten.

Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Sheffield United made it 29 games in a row in which the Reds have scored and they came within inches of continuing that run in the second minute, but Bobby Firmino made it 30 soon enough.

This is also the Reds’ joint-best scoring streak at the start of a season since they managed 21 in the 1933/34 season.

What’s next?

Next week, we have one of, if not the biggest rivalries in the Premier League renewed when Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield. You’d think that would be a good bet for another home win, but then Manchester City fell into that trap in December, losing 1-2 at home to the Red Devils.

Manchester United had an impressive 4-0 home win over Norwich City today and will be up for this, make no mistake about that!

Take a look at the SBOBET odds for that game and join in what could be the match of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Spurs have an FA Cup replay against Championship side Middlesbrough to contend with before making the short trip to Watford next weekend.

Premier League: The Experienced Scot Meets The Wily Italian With A Point To Prove

West Ham United vs Everton

When David Moyes was welcomed back to the Premier League just over a fortnight ago, he was a man seemingly in demand.

To quote a compelling journalist, Moyes brings "sanity to a hen house" and that is exactly what West Ham need, even if the players’ form under predecessor Manuel Pellegrini was well below par and the veteran Chilean was right to feel let down.

The Scot was also discussed as a possible appointment at another of his former clubs in Everton before they opted for the veteran Italian, Carlo Ancelotti.

While that seemed to irritate some of their fans, you can be guaranteed it will be more than professional pride why he wants his team to win this one.

He will have a point to prove!

Talking Points

This is a meeting between the sides placed 16th and 11th which, while disappointing to both, has been reflected in their requirement for new managerial appointments mid-term.

Yet it does not mean they are not capable of delivering Premier League 2020 highlights.

In fact, in their last league outing away from home, Ancelotti’s new troops pushed the champions close.

The fact they then were knocked out of the FA Cup by effectively Liverpool reserves was mighty embarrassing and a reality check.

In fact, so much so that Everton’s director of football, Marcel Brands, had to appease a group of angry fans who turned up at the club’s training ground less than 24 hours later.

West Ham also suffered frustration of a different kind last week when Moyes saw the first defeat since his return at Sheffield United– a match in which the intervention of VAR deep into added time denied them an equaliser.

They have had goalkeeping problems much of this term so will be relieved with the news that Lukasz Fabianski will only be out for a couple of weeks after scans revealed that the goalkeeper did not suffer a recurrence of a hip injury in that match.

Scans have shown that the Poland international only has minimal inflammation around the site of the stitches from his surgery.

His absence from this encounter though means the club could be re-signing Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough, just two-and-a-half years after leaving the club.

Everton have been linked to moves in the transfer market themselves, even if both managers are still adjusting to their newly inherited squads.

With Cenk Tosun having departed and youngster Moise Kean yet to impress, Ancelotti cannot afford to go into the second half of the season solely relying on in-form young frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

While speculation suggesting Ancelotti may go back to his former club to recruit Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, it is doubtful if any move is made in time for this weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti's will visit London Stadium as they clash against West Ham United in Premier League
Carlo Ancelotti on the sideline during Everton's match against Brighton & Hove Albion

So it will be the same old faces for two old, yet new managers this weekend – one in particular has a point to prove to fans and employers alike.

History

Everton have a very good record against West Ham. They have won 71 of their clashes historically with the Hammers enjoying victory 40 times and a further 30 meetings ending level.

Last season, Everton won this fixture with an impressive 2-0 success at the London Stadium, courtesy of goals from Kurt Zouma (then on loan from Chelsea) and Bernard.

That was their first win in 11 visits to London in the Premier League since January 2017, seven of which had ended in defeat.

Earlier this season, Everton also won 2-0 at Goodison Park with Bernard again on target, along with Gylfi Sigurdsson.

West Ham did defeat Everton last season, however. They won 3-1 at Goodison, thanks to a double from Andriy Yarmolenko and one from Marko Arnautovic.

The Hammers have only won in their past top-flight games at home against the Toffees.

Betting Tip

??

West Ham United vs Everton 1X2 Draw @ 3.25
January 18, 23:00 (GMT+8)

The SBOBET Premier League 2020 betting odds have Everton as slight favourites and prices them 1X2 2.49 @ with West Ham 1X2 @ 2.76 and the draw @ 3.25.

With Asian Handicap odds, it’s worth looking at odds of West Ham 0.00 @ 2.14 and Everton @ 1.83.

Over 2.75 goals @ 2.13, total goal 2-3 @ 1.95 and 4-6 @ 3.45 suggests we can expect a few goals.

A repeat of last season’s scoreline – correct score 0-2 – is available to back @ 13.50.

I am expecting a close encounter and was going to plump for a home victory by the narrowest of margins.

Premier League: Blue Sky spells Danger for Eagles!

Manchester City vs Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace head north this weekend for a Saturday afternoon date with Manchester City. It doesn’t sound too bad when you say it like that!

But the Eagles have found it difficult to score this season, and that spells big trouble against a side which has banged in 17 goals during a five match winning run. The Premier League throws up surprises week after week but it would be another major shock if Palace head coach Roy Hodgson could mastermind a win at the Etihad.

When they are on song, Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues are the best attacking force in Europe but, while the latest SBOBET odds tell the story of a near foregone conclusion, which, of course, is always a dangerous assumption.

Manchester City are at 1.11 to pick up the three points with Palace at 18.00 and the draw at 9.00.

The Sky Blues are way off the pace at the top, having dropped too many points from games they have dominated, and there seems to be no stopping Liverpool. The Reds won a difficult match against Spurs last week, thanks to a Roberto Firmino strike. The latest Premier League 2020 betting odds will offer you 16.00…yes 16.00 on Manchester City launching a record breaking comeback.

You wouldn’t put it past Pep’s team launching an attack, were in not for one fact. Liverpool, 14 points clear and with a game in hand, have won 20 and drawn one of their opening 21 fixtures. They would need a dramatic collapse in their Premier League 2020 results to let the Sky Blues back in. They would need to lose six of their remaining 17 games or draw most of them.

Talking Points

Aguero is simply the best

Manchester City won’t be looking at the league table too much, but they have plenty of other targets in sight; and recent form is superb, particularly in attack. Since his £35m transfer from Atletico Madrid Sergio Aguero has become the stand-out star in the Premier League.

His hat-trick against Aston Villa last week was his 12th in the Premier League, more than any other player, and he has now scored the most goals of any overseas player, surpassing Thierry Henry’s 175 and drawing alongside Frank Lampard on 177. Only Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole are now ahead of the Argentine scoring sensation.

Can Sergio Aguero score another goal in their upcoming Premier League clash against Crystal Palace
Sergio Aguero scored a stunning hat-trick in their match against Aston Villa

Aguero took all the plaudits last week, and quiet rightly, but his strike partner Gabriel Jesus is starting to show just how good he is and has weighed in with nine goals.

City have goals coming from all angles, with Raheem Sterling scoring 11 to add to Aguero and Jesus’ 22 combined, then Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez have bagged seven each with Bernardo Silva scoring five.

When the Sky Blues move into top gear you can find all six of them in your penalty area… and that is terrifying for any defence.

Palace searching for goals

They might be sitting comfortably in mid-table but, in contrast, the Eagles are the second lowest scorers in the Premier League. Head coach Roy Hodgson has moved to rectify that in the January transfer window by offloading Christian Benteke and replacing him with Everton’s Cenk Tosun.

Benteke has failed to score in 16 appearances this season and is hoping to re-ignite his career at Aston Villa. He has only scored once since April 2018 so Villa fans will need to be patient.

Tosun has joined the Eagles on loan until the end of the season, having found game time at Goodison Park hard to come by since the improvement in form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

Palace may he without midfield man Max Meyer who was injured in last week’s home draw with Arsenal.

History

The Sky Blues have won 17 of the 26 meetings over the past 25 years, with the Eagles winning five and there have been four draws.

But last season Palace sprung a major surprise at the Etihad and ruined Pep’s Christmas with a 2-3 smash and grab, Andros Townsend scoring a sensational goal for the Eagles.

But recent form suggests a repeat is unlikely; Crystal Palace haven’t won in four, while the Sky Blues are on a five match winning run.

Betting Tip

??

Manchester City vs Crystal Palace Total Goal 4-6 @ 2.06
January 18, 23:00 (GMT+8)

There is little doubt that Manchester City will score goals in this game, will they reach four? Well they might well do but, equally, they have only kept one clean sheet in six; and since the injury to centre back Aymeric Laporte they have often looked shaky at the back.

3-1 or 4-1 look to be likely outcomes.

Premier League: Burnley and Leicester are Good Value

Burnley vs Leicester City

Turf Moor welcomes Leicester City on Sunday for a mouth-watering clash with hosts Burnley… with both teams having plenty to play for.

Premier League Burnley vs Leicester City always throws up a good contest between two teams who reached the top flight together in 2014. It was Leicester’s first appearance in the Premier League for a decade, while the Clarets were returning after a four-year absence.

But since then their paths have taken different courses. Burnley were relegated back to the Championship, for a season, while the Foxes famously won the league at odds of 5001:00. Since then the Clarets have reached the heights of Europa League football, but are more accustomed to keeping the bottom three at arms length; while Leicester appointed Brendan Rodgers as head coach, in an attempt to challenge at the top again.

And they’re doing a pretty good job of it, currently in third place and with a Champions League spot seemingly nailed on. Meanwhile, the Clarets have had a poor run of results and are looking over their shoulders.

But both sets of fans know they get good value from their teams.

Talking Points

Burnley aiming to stop the rot

The Clarets find themselves in a relegation battle after defeat to Chelsea left them just three points above the drop zone. Sean Dyche’s team were sitting handily in mid-table, but four consecutive defeats has left them with plenty of work to do to guarantee another season in the top flight.

Burnley are at 4.30 to go down, far too close for comfort, but this is a battling club and they have the experience and quality to steer clear of trouble. It looks likely that two from seven clubs will join bottom club Norwich City in the drop.

Last season the emergence Dwight McNeil saw Burnley pull away from the bottom end of the table with a spectacular second half of the season. And Burnley need a bit of the 20-year-old winger’s magic to do the trick again. Despite going down to Chelsea 3-0 McNeil still looked likely to spark something for Burnley, crossing for Jeff Hendrick’s disallowed goal and driving forward at every opportunity.

Dyche was highly impressed, saying: “On a platform like today, I thought Dwight McNeil was outstanding. He has got to be one of the top talents in the country at the moment.”

The Clarets may be dipping into the January transfer market after the loan of former Leicester star Danny Drinkwater failed to pay dividends; they are in need of a box to box midfielder.

Evergreen Vardy hungry for goals

The SBOBET odds on Jamie Vardy to finish Premier League top scorer are at 2.00 and that’s some testament to the way Leicester’s arch poacher has continued to push the boundaries. He sits at the top of the Premier League top scorers with 17 goals and that’s despite being out recently with an injury. He has Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang (14) and Sergio Aguero (13) in pursuit so he’ll be desperate to get on the score-sheet again as soon as possible.

Watch out for Vardy’s battle with Burnley’s England defender James Tarkowski in the Burnley vs Leicester City highlights. Tarkowski was a Leicester target in the summer after the sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United, and he too has a point to prove.

The Foxes would have expected to win their home game against Southampton last week, but the red hot Danny Ings put paid to that. The Saints are a different prospect to the shambles which capitulated 0-9 to Leicester earlier in the season, and now the Clarets will hope they can emulate the South Coast team.

Premier League: Can Leicester City return home with three points in the bag?
Leicester City captain Wes Morgan celebrates after a Premier League match

History

These clashes generally give great value for money Burnley and the last two meetings have delivered exciting contests with a healthy smattering of controversy.

The Clarets have won two of the last three meetings at Turf Moor, though the Foxes won this tussle at the KingPower earlier this season as Chris Wood had a late equaliser controversially chalked off by VAR.

And, not long after the arrival of Rodgers as Leicester boss, the Foxes scored a last-minute winner in a 1-2 win at Turf Moor after Harry Maguire had been sent off in the 2018/19 clash.

Clarets fans haven’t seen a draw yet this season. Burnley’s home record is five wins and six defeats.

Betting Tip

??

Burnley vs Leicester City Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.95
January 19, 22:00 (GMT+8)

The Burnley vs Leicester City betting odds currently have the Foxes marginally odds on at 1.87 to win, with the Clarets at 4.10 and the draw at 3.45.

Home advantage should even things up a little and I can see a similar result to recent contests with the odd goal in three deciding matters.

Alternatively, 1-1 at 6.40 is the most likely result.

Premier League: Football’s Hotbed Welcomes the Aristocrats

Newcastle United vs Chelsea

Newcastle enjoy playing Chelsea at St. James’ Park.

The chance to uproot the so-called aristocrats of West London, for that is what they have become since the investment boon that transformed the club when billionaire Roman Abramovich arrived on the scene in 2003.

Perhaps they see it as a Premier League clash akin to a meeting between traditionalists from an English footballing hotbed against the nouveau-riche; the new money, from the capital.

After all, for some time, both clubs were in similar positions.

But while Newcastle remain a sleeping giant, Chelsea’s resources have seen them become a giant, capturing five Premier League titles and numerous other  trophies in a period when the Toon Army have been bouncing between the top two divisions.

It must hurt that the tables have been completely turned, yet this match – for 90 minutes at least – provides a chance for Newcastle to end a largely disappointing festive run in form and potentially inflict damage on Chelsea’s top-four hopes.

Talking Points

Newcastle have already shown their liking for the big occasion.

Last season, they defeated the champions and this term drew with them on home soil, so St. James’ Park can be a fortress.

Despite being a far from popular choice among home fans, Geordie boss Steve Bruce is doing a decent job with a squad which is weaker than the one predecessor Rafa Benitez had at his disposal.

Bruce broadly endorses Newcastle’s reluctance to invest heavily in players aged over 25 due to a lack of resale value. But the coach will need to sit down with owner, sportswear tycoon Mike Ashley, this week to thrash out a plan for what remains of the January transfer window.

There is no question of the need to strengthen to avoid getting drawn into a relegation battle.

Chelsea also need to strengthen but are a very different proposition with cover in most areas across the pitch, despite a summer transfer ban which was in place until recently.

The players they are being linked with are very much at the top end of the spectrum, such as Moussa Dembélé, with the club reportedly considering whether to test Lyon’s determination not to sell the striker this month.

How Newcastle would love to be considered in the market for such a player, as they once would have been.

Whether we see Premier League 2020 highlights this weekend remains to be seen, but the difference in style between the two managers with contrasting squads could be fascinating.

One manager (Bruce), a three-time title winner with Manchester United, was probably the best player not to be selected for England for a generation, against another (Frank Lampard) who also won three Premier League titles and was a key figure for club and country for more than a decade.

Premier League: Mike Ashley is expected to sit down with Steve Bruce to discuss Newcastle United's plan for January transfer window
Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley watching their FA Cup game vs Rochdale

And then there are the owners, one largely loved due to his investment, the other maligned and actually hated in areas on Tyneside due to what fans perceive to be a complete lack of investment that has taken the club to the precipice at times.

Neither will be in the stadium for this one. Their legacies will be very much on show, though.

History

It was a case of the late show in this fixture last season.

In just the third week of the campaign, Chelsea triumphed thanks to a late own goal after Eden Hazard and Joselu had traded goals all in the last 14 minutes.

That was actually Chelsea’s first win in six visits to Tyneside, although they have beaten them twice since, including a home triumph in October when Marcos Alonso netted the only goal.

Traditionally, Chelsea have the edge with 74 victories compared to Newcastle’s 53 and a further 39 draws.

Their most famous modern-day meeting was, probably an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley in 2000, when two Gus Poyet goals earned Chelsea a 2-1 success as they went onto win the competition to spark two decades of silverware.

Betting Tip

??

Newcastle United vs Chelsea Over 2.75 Goals @ 1.88
January 19, 01:30 (GMT+8)

The SBOBET Premier League 2020 betting odds make Chelsea firm favourites. 1X2 @ 1.52 and the hosts 1X2 @ 5.60. The draw, which is a tempting bet, is available @ 4.20.

Assuming the home side raises its game, as it has often does for matches like this, there could be some of you willing to risk Asian Handicap +0.75 Newcastle @ 2.35, compared to Chelsea -1.00 @ 1.87.

A repeat of this encounter from last season – correct score 1-2 – will pay out @ 7.00, while total goal 2-3 is available to back @ 1.99.

Premier League: Brave Blades Duel with Arteta’s Gunners

Arsenal vs Sheffield United

Mikel Arteta's challenging start to life as Arsenal manager continues. The Gunners have won just one of his first four Premier League matches in charge and remain stranded in mid-table mediocrity.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United are still riding high in sixth after a much-needed win against West Ham. The Blades have been a handful away from home this season and will be eager to pick up some points at the Emirates.

The Premier League 2020 betting odds still fancy an Arsenal home win, but that will be much tougher to achieve with the captain and top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's absence.

Talking Points

Arsenal must cope without Captain Auba

Arsenal appeared to be on course for a rare away win -- they had won just two in their first 10 away from home -- against Crystal Palace after Aubameyang put them in front.

However, Palace equalised in the second half through Jordan Ayew. Then, the Gunners skipper had himself sent off, which squashed any hope of a win.

Aubameyang's straight red means he will now miss the Sheffield United clash, as well as the succeeding two games. Needless to say, he will be a huge miss. Auba is having another strong season and has scored a team-high 14 goals, including three in his last four games.

Premier League: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang received a straight red card
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang walks off the pitch after being sent off during their match versus Crystal Palace

The next-highest goalscorer is Alexandre Lacazette, who has a mere five goals this season. The French forward hasn't scored in his last six appearances, with his last Premier League goal coming all the way back on Dec. 5 in a 2-1 home loss against Brighton.

But with Aubameyang out for the next few games, Arsenal will have to lean on Lacazette to lead the line against Sheffield United, with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Nicolas Pepe offering support.

One of Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli will likely fill the other attacking spot behind Lacazatte in Aubameyang's absence.

Arsenal's Premier League 2020 results at home this season have not been all that impressive, though. They've won just four out of 11 (four draws, three defeats) and had gone six games without a win prior to their 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Blades' formidable away form

Sheffield United suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League for the first time this season, although no one would begrudge them for it. After all, they did go up against the top two teams in the league -- Manchester City and runaway leaders Liverpool -- away from home in the space of just a few days.

They did bounce back with a 1-0 win over West Ham United, with Oliver McBurnie scoring the only goal of the game. The 23-year-old Scot has now scored four goals, tied for second on the team behind Lys Mousset.

The French striker has been on quite a goal drought, failing to score in each of his last eight premier league appearances. Although, he has not been a regular starter during that time.

Goals have been hard to come by -- for either team -- during Sheffield United's away games. There have been two goals or fewer in nine of their 11 away matches this season.

The Blades' ability to keep things tight at the back is a big reason why they've been so difficult to beat away from home (three wins, six draws in 11). They've conceded just 11 away goals, which is the third-fewest in the league behind Liverpool and Leicester.

History

Arsenal and Sheffield United have gone up against one another a total of 10 times since 1993, the majority of which have come in cup competitions. Unsurprisingly, Arsenal have the edge in wins, 6-2, while the two teams have played out two draws.

Although, one of Sheffield United's two wins came earlier this year. They won 1-0 at Bramall Lane thanks to a Lys Mousset strike.

Betting Tip

??

Arsenal vs Sheffield United Draw 1X2 @ 3.45
January 18, 23:00 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have the Gunners at 1.84 to win on the 1X2 market, with Sheffield United priced at 4.20. Meanwhile, a draw is 3.45.

It does feel like this has a draw written all over it. After all, Arsenal are tied for the most draws in the league this season with 10, while Sheffield United aren't far behind with eight. And with Aubameyang out, the Gunners could struggle to find that decisive goal.

Speaking of goals, there's also a decent chance this game goes under 2.50 goals. Again, Auba's absence will be a big blow to Arsenal's attack, especially against a stingy Sheffield United side that doesn't give up (or score) too many goals away from home.

Premier League: This Game Always Matters!

Liverpool vs Manchester United

It is unquestionably the biggest fixture in English football and, quite possibly, the world.

Matches simply don’t come any bigger than between these two clubs - English football’s most successful by a country mile and the two most prestigious clubs in the English game.

So sit back and hold on tight. There’s only one encounter with the potential to create Premier League news in its own right this weekend.

Talking Points

That the rivalry has never diminished, even when one club was dominating and the other faring poorly, is testament to that.

Manchester United even used to pull in the biggest crowds in the country during their sole season in the former Division Two in 1974/75.

And ask a fan of either club what it means to them and you will be left in no doubt.

Yes, the outcome of this season’s Premier League title race is pretty much known and, barring the collapse of all collapses, Liverpool will end their title drought which stretches all but 30 years.

But while this weekend’s result is unlikely to change anything – the Merseysiders are on course to cruise to the title and United likely to miss out on a lucrative top four finish for the second successive season - it doesn’t mean the match is of any less importance to either side.

As it stands, Liverpool have overtaken United as top dog and are threatening to embark on a run which could see the team assembled by coach Jurgen Klopp as one of the best in the club’s illustrious history.

United are some way from that or matching their more recent predecessors which, until the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, dominated the landscape themselves.

Yet while this SBOBET writer thinks this United side is the weakest he has seen in 30 years, it was still capable of being the only side to take points off the runaway league leaders in the first half of this campaign.

Can they do so again?

The form guide suggests not.

United will be major underdogs, while Liverpool could be boosted by potential returns for trio Joel Matip, Fabinho and Dejan Lovren.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer predicted it at the start of the season but some fans are beginning to become incredibly frustrated with the way the team’s form changes on a weekly basis.

Manchester United will look to end Liverpool’s unbeaten record in their upcoming Premier League clash
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to extend their winning run into 3 games as they face Liverpool

In the space of three days last month, United beat both Tottenham and Manchester City, but then drew at home to an average Everton side and lost to then bottom of the table Watford.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have seen off nearly all before them so far.

While they have been rested and had time to recharge after their impressive victory over Spurs last weekend, highly inconsistent United have been in midweek action, their squad already strained by the absences of the likes of club record signing Paul Pogba and tenacious young midfielder Scott McTominay (missing since Boxing Day).

Will that really count for anything this weekend? Who knows. Liverpool are overwhelming favourites but last season remains the only time they have beaten United at Anfield in five years.

When these two clash – league position often counts for little!

History

Last season this fixture was Xherdan Shaqiri’s finest moment in a Liverpool shirt as two deflected strikes won the game for the home side and, ultimately, paved the way for Jose Mourinho’s dismissal as manager two days later.

That was only Liverpool’s second victory against United in 12 attempts in the Premier League.

Overall, United have won 88 of their meetings in all competitions. Liverpool have 77 successes and there have been 67 draws – that’s as close as you would probably expect for the two dominant forces in English football.

Betting Tip

??

Liverpool vs Manchester United Total 2-3 @ 2.06
January 20, 00:30 (GMT+8)

The Premier League betting odds for this fixture are probably the most one-sided for some time.

Liverpool are overwhelming favourites both 1X2 @ 1.45 and Asian Handicap -1.50 @ 2.26.

United, by contrast, can be backed 1X2 @ 6.40 and +1.00 @ 2.21.

The draw will payout @ 4.50 – decent odds given the amount of times historically this match has ended all square.

Over 3.00 goals @ 2.17 suggests this will not be a low scoring affair, an expectation matched by odds of total goal 2-3 @ 2.04 and 4-6 @ 3.05.

The Double Chance Man Utd or Draw @ 2.62 will be worth a punt with many supporters of the away team too.

A repeat of last season’s encounter – correct score 3-1 – shows odds of @ 10.00, with a re-run of October’s 1-1 draw @ 8.50.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)

Premier League: Last-Gasp Goal Livens up Teatime on Tyneside

Newcastle United 1-0 Chelsea

As Premier League matches go, this hadn’t been an occasion to live long in the memory.

In fact, I briefly broke off from a weekend break to catch what amounted to few Premier League 2020 highlights.

Yet it still had a compelling element as two sides with very different aims battled it out on Tyneside which is why it was hard to switch off until the very end.

How Chelsea must now regret switching off at the end!

Highlights of the game

Chelsea had edged the reverse fixture against Newcastle last year in an exciting contest, one that ended in controversial fashion.

And the SBOBET Premier League 2020 betting odds favoured them do so again, especially with new boss Frank Lampard proving a number of people wrong.

But the home side weren’t going to be denied in what always had the look of an intriguing battle between this old fashioned footballing heartland and the aristocrats of west London.

Little though did I think there would be a huge roar in the final minute of the stoppage time as they only went and won it!

Led by manager Frank Lampard, Chelsea get defeated by Newcastle United in the Premier League
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard looks dejected during a Premier League match against Newcastle United

Chelsea had seen off Burnley with a bit to spare last time out. Lampard made one change to the side which beat the Clarets 3-0, with the influential N'Golo Kante back in midfield to partner Jorginho as Ross Barkley dropped to the bench.

For the home side, Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin was back in the side after being more than a month out with a hamstring injury as boss Steve Bruce made six changes to the side which beat Rochdale in the FA Cup replay in midweek.

Jonjo Shelvey, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez, Martin Dubravka and Jetro Willems also returned but the latter had to leave the fray as early as the 11th minute to a freak injury.

While that was a blow, he was replaced by Matt Ritchie, who has more than proved his worth since switching to left-back from midfield.

Chelsea would and probably should have won had they taken their chances. Kante, Tammy Abraham (twice) and Emerson all went close in the second period as they looked dangerous and they dominated possession with Dubravka impressive.

Joelinton had gone close to putting Newcastle ahead midway through the first half as he headed against the crossbar. But it actually took until just before the hour mark for the home side to have their first effort on target.

Then came the key moment as Saint-Maximin sent over a cross after a corner was half-cleared and Isaac Hayden managed to direct the ball home as Kepa Arrizabalaga was beaten all too easily.

What a finish!

Key statistics

This was Newcastle's first 90th-minute winner in a Premier League match since December 2015 against Tottenham, when Ayoze Perez struck.

Despite the defeat, Chelsea stay in fourth. Meanwhile, the three points lift the hosts up to 12th in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

What’s next?

Newcastle go to Everton in three days’ time to face Goodison Park (January 21) and then meet Oxford United at home in the FA Cup fourth round who they hope will prove more straightforward opponents than Rochdale initially were in the previous round.

Chelsea host Arsenal on Tuesday night and have a fourth round FA Cup trip to Hull next weekend.

Premier League: Lampard vs Arteta Round 2

Chelsea vs Arsenal

Two of the most talented young coaches in world football are set to meet again as Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

There’s a full programme of Premier League football this week, with all 20 teams in action between Tuesday and Thursday, and the pick is the rematch between the Blues and the Gunners. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea inflicted a first home defeat on Arsenal head coach Mike Arteta in the final fixture of 2019, and the former Gunners’ midfield ace will be desperate to exact revenge on his opposite number.

Arteta is much admired at Arsenal and Lampard was a playing legend at Stamford Bridge, and now they come face to face on the touchline. We’ll learn a lot about their teams this week, just how ruthless are Lamps’ young Blues and how resilient is Arteta’s Arsenal.

Keep it here at SBOBET for all the midweek Premier League 2020 updates and the result of this fascinating clash.

Talking Points

Chelsea looking for consistency

Lampard’s youngsters saw off Burnley last week with a comfortable 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge but they followed it up with a 1-0 defeat away to Newcastle. The Blues dominated for much of the game, with 70 per cent possession, but they couldn’t break through a stubborn Newcastle defence and paid the price when Isaac Hayden headed a 94thr minute winner.

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has been in superb scoring form this season and he came within inches of putting his side in charge when his nonchalant flick hit the Magpies crossbar in the first half. And midfield man Jorginho ran the show, making the most passes (114) and having the most touches (131) of any player on the pitch.

Premier League: Tammy Abraham iis expected to lead Chelsea upfront against Arsenal
Tammy Abraham celebrates after scoring Chelsea's second goal against Arsenal

The latest Premier League 2020 betting odds still have the Blues odds on to win a top-four place, and another season in the Champions League would represent a very decent first year in charge for Lampard at his beloved club.

Arsenal must learn to cope without Auba

Arteta has plenty of work to do at the Emirates and he hasn’t been helped by the temporary absence of his most important player. The Gunners are without their captain and top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is suspended for three games following his red card for a horror tackle on Crystal Palace’s Max Meyer.

To add some context, the Gabon international has scored 40 per cent of the Gunners goals this season.

Alexandre Lacazette skippered the Gunners in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United at the weekend, and he will need to step up in this capital city clash if Arsenal are to come away with a much-needed win against Chelsea.

With all respect to Blades fans, a home draw with Sheffield United doesn’t sound like progress for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal but had it not been for a late John Fleck equaliser a win would have taken the Gunners up to ninth in the table and, crucially for their supporters, level on points with Spurs.

They didn’t really deserve all three points, though rising star Gabriel Martinelli steered the Gunners ahead and has received great encouragement from his captain.

Aubameyang was full of social media praise for the 18-year-old Martinelli saying: “Gabi’s gonna be a superstar. Not because of the goal but because of the attitude, energy and mindset.”

Arteta will hope his absent star is on the money.

History

The head-to-head meetings between these two London aristocrats could hardly be closer. The Gunners have a minute edge with 26 wins to Chelsea’s 25 and there have been 19 draws in the 70 matches played since 1993.

Chelsea beat the Gunners 4-1 in the 2019 Europa Cup final, and of course, Frank Lampard’s young team triumphed 1-2 at the Emirates as 2019 drew to a close. Aubameyang gave the Gunners a half time lead before the Blues came roaring back with goals in the last ten minutes from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham.

Though Arsenal have only won twice away from home this season, there is some encouragement to be had for Gunners fans, they are unbeaten away from home in six matches while the Blues are inconsistent at the Bridge.

Betting Tip

??

Chelsea vs Arsenal Double Chance Arsenal or Draw @ 1.99
January 22, 04:15 (GMT+8)

At 1.75 to win the hosts are well fancied, while the draw is at 3.75 and Arsenal are at 4.30 to grab a surprise win.

But Chelsea haven’t been in their best form at home and they need to show the confidence they did against Burnley to see off the Gunners. And with Arteta’s side performing solidly away from home I’m backing them to deprive the Blues of a double.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)

Premier League: Liverpool Can Almost Touch It Now!

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United

The chant of: “We’re gonna win the League” rang loud and clear around Anfield this evening as Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0, to go 16 points ahead at the top of the Premier League table.

An early goal for Virgil Van Dijk, and a late, late one from Mo Salah sent the Kop wild with joy as Jurgen Klopp’s side took another giant stride towards a first title in three decades. And it must have been sweet to beat their old rivals Manchester United, the club which dominated the competition for so long.

The remaining Premier League 2020 results will have to be the most amazing and most incredible ever seen in the competition’s history to stop the Reds now

…I just can’t see it!

Highlights of the game

Liverpool dominated the game for 75 minutes before United gave them a scare, and they were ahead on 15 minutes when a corner swung in and Van Dijk climbed high above Harry Maguire to plant a bullet header past De Gea and into the net.

That calmed the Reds’ nerves and they were all over their visitors for the remainder of the half and were twice denied by VAR.

Premier League: Van Dijk's opener and Mo Salah's finish helped Liverpool win vs Manchester United
Van Dijk celebrates with Mo Salah after scoring Liverpool's second goal against Manchester United

He may not score as many as Salah or Sadio Mane but Roberto Firmino gets his fair share of the crucial goals and every team in the world would surely have the Brazilian in their starting line-up. He hasn’t scored at Anfield this season, but he twice looked like breaking that hoodoo half way through the first 45.

Van Dijk challenged De Gea for a lofted ball and when United failed to clear, Firmino eventually picked it up and rifled a beautiful shot past the keeper and into the net.

VAR took a look and wiped out the goal for a foul on the keeper. I would think it was a decision which stunned almost everyone watching and it was hard on Firmino, who was inches away from scoring again just a minute later.

The rampant hosts had the ball in the net again when fantastic play simply sliced the Manchester United defence apart and Georginio Wijnaldum slid the ball into the corner of the net. But this time he was, correctly, judged to be marginally offside.

The Red Devils had a chance to level with their first real attack when Aaron Wan Bissaka ghosted in on the right and poked the ball across the Liverpool six yard box. It just needed a touch from Andreas Pereira but he was agonizingly short.

United were without the injured Marcus Rashford, and worse news came through this afternoon that he would be out for three months with a serious back injury. And watching that miss must have hurt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Liverpool hit the woodwork twice at the start of the second half. First Salah fluffed a chance you’d expect him to score and it skidded away off the post, then Jordan Henderson let rip and De Gea touched it onto the post.

United were somehow still in the game and the hosts began to get the jitters. Anthony Martial had a great chance but rushed his shot and fired wide, then Alisson made a superb save to deny Fred.

The visitors continued to press, but the roof came off Anfield when their keeper fired a long ball up field into the path of Salah, and the Egyptian hit man slid the ball calmly home.

Key statistics

It’s time to stop looking at the Premier League 2020 betting odds for the winner this season. But hey; of course there’s a fantastic range of offers here at SBOBET for all the big leagues in Europe and for every match in the English top flight.

But if Liverpool concede their 16 point lead with just 16 games left I’ll buy a Blackburn Rovers shirt!

This win made in 21 wins and a draw from 22 games and they have now beaten every team in the league.

They just need 30 more points to win their first title in 30 years.

But there’s more bad news for United fans, they’ve lost three consecutive games n Merseyside (two against Liverpool and one against Everton) for the first time since 1979.

What’s next?

Liverpool are favourites to retain the Champions League and win the Premier League as well of course. Next week they have an FA Cup tie away to Shrewsbury and Klopp will give his youngsters a chance to shine again after the beat Everton in the third round.

Before that they take a trip to Wolves in the league in their relentless march to the title.

Manchester United have a home game against Burnley on Wednesday night and that won’t be an easy ride. The Clarets have just ended a poor run of form with an impressive victory over third placed Leicester City.

Beware The Premier League Champs On Form

Sheffield United vs Manchester City

They are the Premier League champions.

Over the past decade, they have produced tonnes more Premier League highlights than any other side.

And last time on their travels, they hit a newly promoted team (albeit an injury-hit one) for six on their own turf.

So should another team which has been promoted from the Championship last summer be wary?

Talking Points

Well, the answer is, yes of course.

Not only have they an array of world-class talent expensively assembled in their line-up, they also have the best player to have graced English football’s top flight in the last decade.

Indeed, in Sergio Aguero, who notched a hat-trick in that match to become the highest overseas goalscorer in Premier League history, they have a genuine world-class star.

The Argentine moved past Thierry Henry and joined Frank Lampard on 177 goals scored in England’s top flight and you would not bet against him overtaking that (if he hasn’t already by the time you’re reading this).

Only three men - Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole - who played virtually all of their careers in England, remain in front of Aguero on the all-time Premier League goalscoring list.

His treble against Villa was Aguero's 12th hat-trick, which is a Premier League record.

No wonder the Sbobet Premier League betting odds are so strongly in City’s favour.

They travel to Bramall Lane to face one of the teams of the season.

Chris Wilder has worked wonders with Sheffield United and confounded predictions, proven by the fact his side were sixth in the table going into this weekend.

With a highly limited budget, he is outwitting some of the best teams in the country, including City’s Manchester rivals United in a six-goal thriller in Yorkshire in November.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder confident to challenge the Premier League champions on Wednesday
Sheffield United's manager Chris Wilder waits for the start of the English Premier League soccer match vs Arsenal

It has been an eventful journey for Wilder to reach this point, featuring five promotions at four different clubs, since taking his first job at Alfreton Town in 2001.

Yet here he is, at English football’s top table, having recently extended his Sheffield United contract to 2024.

Of course, the difference in resources is not so much huge but a gulf.

The home team’s record signing, Oli McBurnie, recruited last summer, is a striker signed for just under £20 million.

Since being taken over in 2008, City have shelled out an enormous amount of money, spending a whopping £1.5 billion and have a net spend of -£1.2 billion.

That will surely show on the pitch in midweek. Football can be a funny game mind!

History

If you cast aside their meeting last month, when City ran out 2-0 home winners courtesy of goals from Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne, this will be their first meeting in Yorkshire for over a decade.

Sheffield United did cause an upset in the FA Cup in 2008 when, managed by Bryan Robson, they inflicted a surprise 2-1 defeat.

Their most recent Premier League meetings came in 2006/07 when the sides drew 0-0 at the Etihad Stadium before City won in Sheffield two months later, courtesy of a solitary Stephen Ireland goal.

Although Sheffield United beat City in the second tier in January 2000, the last time they beat them in the top flight was in 1992, the season before the Premier League was formed.

On that occasion, they secured a 4-2 home win when Mike Lake, Brian Gayle, home favourite Brian Deane and Dane Whitehouse scored the goals.

Keith Curle and Andy Hill were City’s marksmen.

Overall, Sheffield United have 38 victories to City’s 50 with a further 34 clashes ending level.

Betting Tip

??

Sheffield United vs Manchester City First Half Asian Handicap -0.50 City @ 1.88
January 22, 03:30 (GMT+8)

No surprises here when I tell you City are backed 1X2 @ 1.38, the draw out @ 4.60 and the hosts adrift @ 7.80.

Even First Half 1X2 has City available with odds @ 1.87 compared to Sheffield United @ 6.80. The draw @ 2.38 may catch the attention of a few.

It’s a similar theme with Asian Handicap betting where City are -1.25 @1.85 and the home side +1.25 @ 2.08.

First Half Asian Handicap -0.50 City @ 1.88 and +0.50 Sheffield United @ 2.02. may tempt some of you, while over 3.00 goals @ 2.03 or, from the home faithful, Double Chance Sheffield United or Draw @ 2.88, is on offer.

Sheffield United will try and keep them at bay but it’s hard to see the champions not leading by the break, nor fill-time for that matter.

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)

Premier League: Can Manchester United Bounce Back Against Burnley?

Manchester United vs Burnley

They’ve just suffered defeat to their biggest rivals, losing to Liverpool at the weekend, and now Manchester United face Burnley in the next round of Premier League games.

Red Devils fans will hope for an immediate response and, on the face of it, a home game against a Burnley side aiming to climb away from trouble is a good opportunity to return to winning ways.

United came away from Turf Moor with a comfortable 0-2 win at the end of December, but they won’t expect an easy ride on Wednesday night. It may not be the best time to face Sean Dyche’s Clarets who have just seen off third-placed Leicester City.

Talking Points

United need reinforcements

The Red Devils were outplayed by Liverpool in the big North West derby on Sunday, but they somehow managed to stay in the game and gave Jurgen Klopp’s runaway leaders a fright or two in the last 15 minutes, before Mo Salah raced away to score a last-minute goal. But the gulf between the two teams has led former United legend Gary Neville to say that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad is five or six players of competing at the top end of the table.

The TV pundit never hides his love for the Red Devils nor does he pull any punches, saying: “They’ve made some terrible investments in terms of recruitment and it’s all coming home to roost.”

Solskjaer predicted, at the start of the season, that the Red Devils might struggle to find consistency at the highest level, and they featured lightly in the re-season SBOBET tips. But that’s a little hard for some diehard Red Devils’ fans to swallow. They are used to winning week after week.

A nasty back injury to Marcus Rashford has dealt a blow to United’s top-four hopes. The England striker has plundered 14 league goals this season but a back injury means he is likely to be out for two to three months.

Anthony Martial has eight goals to his name but the Frenchman is the epitome of his team, struggling to deliver week on week. He missed a golden opportunity to equalise against Liverpool. Still only 24 he has plenty of time on his hands but United fans want to see him step up; and right now.

Nick Pope saving a penalty vs Leicester City in the Premier League
Nick Pope made 7 saves vs Leicester City at the weekend

Clarets ready for another run?

Beating Leicester City on Sunday was a huge boost for Burnley. The Clarets’ Premier League 2020 results have been poor, and by beating the Foxes they ended a four-match losing streak. One-off results aren’t the norm for Sean Dyche’s team this season. The Clarets tend to go on little runs, good or bad. Before the latest poor sequence of form Burnley had back-to-back wins, then three defeats, then two wins, then three defeats, then a four-match unbeaten run.

They don’t tend to win-lose-win-lose.

Burnley are a confidence team, and their second-half display against Brendan Rodgers’ Champions League chasers was as good as their loyal fans have seen for weeks; aggressive, determined and with a rapier-sharp cutting edge.

Striker Chris Wood is an unsung hero. He netted his ninth of the season against Leicester, while keeper Nick Pope put in a fine performance, including saving a Jamie Vardy penalty.

Look out for wing-back Charlie Taylor; since his £5m switch from Leeds United he has developed into a solid defender, and makes flying runs down the left flank in support of your star Dwight McNeil, and has a wicked cross.

History

Of the 12 recent meetings between these two teams, the Red Devils have won seven, drawn four and lost just one against Burnley.

But there has been a surprising symmetry to the last two meetings between Manchester United and Burnley at Old Trafford. In both games, the Clarets went into a two-goal lead before the hosts levelled deep into stoppage time.

Last season a dramatic late fightback secured the Red Devils a point as Victor Lindelof poked home in the 92nd minute after Paul Pogba had scored an 87th-minute penalty. It was one of those famous Manchester United comebacks, but it signalled the first points dropped under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after he had won his first eight games in charge.

The previous year’s clash was a 2-2 Boxing Day treat in which Burnley held a two-goal lead at the break before Jesse Lingard completed his double on 91 minutes.

Both teams have won two in the last six games, in all competitions.

Betting Tip

??

Manchester United vs Burnley Draw @ 4.20
January 23, 04:15 (GMT+8)

The Red Devils are at 1.42 to win, with Burnley out at 8.00, and despite Gary Neville’s concerns, the hosts should have too much quality for Burnley. But the Clarets will have their tails up after a big result at the weekend and without the threat of Rashford, the Red Devils may find it difficult to break their visitors down.

The expected spread is around 1.25 goals, with Manchester United at 1.98 with a -1.25 handicap and Burnley at 1.95 with that advantage. But my Manchester United vs Burnley betting tips are taking into account the Clarets’ second-half showing against Leicester and United’s problems in attack.

And for a speculative outside bet, how about yet another 2-2 at 26.00?

A SHORT EXPLANATION ON HOW OUR (??) BETS ARE WORTH:
?? = €20 (Highly confident) ?? = €10 (CONFIDENT) ?? = €5 (SOMEWHAT CONFIDENT)

Premier League West Ham vs Manchester City: Unstoppable City on the March!

Leicester City vs West Ham United

Leicester City are in a slump. They've suffered surprising back-to-back defeats to Southampton and Burnley, giving up an early lead on both occasions.

Luckily for the Brendan Rodgers and Foxes, Premier League Leicester City vs West Ham United is next on the fixture list. The last time they lost two on the bounce, they arrested it by beating the Hammers at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have yet to take off under new manager David Moyes and are desperate for more points to move out of relegation danger.

The Leicester City vs West Ham United odds still fancy the Foxes despite their recent defeats. But recent history hasn't favoured the home side when these sides have met, which should give the Hammers hope of pulling off a much-needed victory.

Talking Points

Leicester's defence badly missing Ndidi

For the second time this season, Leicester have lost two games in a row. But the first time, they suffered back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool, who handed them a 4-0 hammering. And now, they've dropped games to Southampton at home and away to Burnley, who had lost four Premier League games on the bounce.

Despite going ahead in both matches, they were unable to preserve those leads. That has been the issue with the Foxes in recent games. Their defence, which has been one of the best for most of the season, has started to slip a little.

The absence of Wilfred Ndidi has been a major factor in that defence's slide. The Nigerian midfielder has missed the last three matches due to a knee injury and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to make his return against the Hammers.

Nampalys Mendy and Hamza Choudhury have both manned that defensive midfield role in Ndidi's absence and neither has covered himself in glory.

Jamie Vardy is expected to score in Premier League Leicester City vs West Ham United
Jamie Vardy shoots for a goal during Leicester City's match against Southampton

Meanwhile, the Foxes could do with Jamie Vardy rediscovering his scoring touch. Vardy, who leads the Premier League with 17 goals this campaign, has found the net just once in his last seven matches and none in his last four, which is his longest goal drought of the season.

Vardy had a great chance to end his barren run against Burnley, but the 31-year-old was unable to convert a penalty, which proved crucial.

West Ham attack still needs work

West Ham United are still figuring things out under David Moyes. They've won one, lost one, and drawn one in three Premier League matches under the Scot. But after a promising start with a 4-0 win over Bournemouth, they still haven't quite figured out how to fix their attack.

Scoring away from home has been particularly difficult. They've scored just three goals in their last seven away matches. They lost five of those matches while winning just two.

Top striker Sebastien Haller is putting together some promising performances, but his production of six goals in 19 appearances this season still leaves much to be desired.

However, Ndidi's absence in Leicester's midfield should give West Ham hope. The likes of Felipe Anderson, Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini are all talented individuals who could thrive if given the space.

Both Fornals and Anderson played well in that first match against Leicester, who didn't start Ndidi, and will be eager to cause some more trouble to the Foxes' defence if the Nigerian misses out once again.

History

West Ham hold the edge in recent head-to-heads. Since 1994, the two sides have played 30 times, with the Hammers grabbing 13 victories to the Foxes' nine, with eight draws.

Although, Leicester City vs West Ham United results have been rather strange in recent years, as playing at home hasn't provided much of an advantage to either team. The home team has not won any of their last six meetings, with the away side winning three.

Leicester have two of those away wins, which includes their first meeting of the season last month. With Vardy absent, Kelechi Iheanacho led the line for the Foxes as he scored the opener in their 2-1 win.

Betting Tip

??

Leicester City vs West Ham United Leicester City 1X2 @ 1.55
January 23, 03:30 (GMT+8)

SBOBET odds have Leicester pegged as heavy 1.58 favourites to snap their recent skid and get a home win. West Ham are priced at 5.20 while a draw is 4.10.

As disappointing as Leicester's last two defeats have been, they are still a strong side fully capable of getting back on track, with or without Ndidi.

I fully expect them to do just that in front of their home fans against West Ham, who struggle scoring goals away from home.

Premier League: Spurs Set To Face A Yellow Peril

Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich City

Spurs face bottom club Norwich City on Wednesday night in a game in which they can’t really win.

Of course Jose Mourinho’s team can pick up three points against the Canaries, but then almost everyone expects them to do so. So anything other than a victory will be a crushing disappointment in the White half of North London.

Norwich may be bottom, but they often play with a cavalier abandon and can always spring a surprise…just ask Manchester City. And they took a point from their hosts when they met in the last game of 2019.

A 2-2 draw with Norwich at Carrow Road started a four match winless sequence for Spurs and that’s left Mourinho’s team eight points behind fourth placed Chelsea in the Premier League. Now it’s time to end that run, or Spurs can say goodbye to a top four finish.

Talking Points

Lack of goals cause Jose a headache

After starting his career as Spurs head coach with a flurry of 3-2 wins, Jose has reverted to type and shored up his defence. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have teamed up again at the back, with Vertonghen taking the captain’s armband in Harry Kane’s absence.

Spurs put up a decent show in a 0-1 home defeat to Liverpool, matching the Reds for much of the game and having two great chances to level in the second half. But they failed to score again in a goalless draw with strugglers Watford on Saturday. Erik Lamela was a centimetre away from bagging a late winner but Watford’s Ignacio Pussetto made a dramatic goal line clearance in the second minute of injury time.

Teemu Pukki scored during the first half of Norwich City's Premier League match vs Bournemouth
Norwich City's Teemu Pukki celebrates after scoring against Bournemouth

In fairness, Spurs were lucky to be level after Paulo Gazziniga saved a Troy Deeney penalty, and the Hornets had plenty of other chances.

Another injury to Harry Kane has sidelined the England and Spurs skipper. This time a hamstring problem has prompted fears he won’t be available for Euro2020, but that’s not Mourinho’s biggest fear. His team has failed to score in its last three league games, picking up just a solitary point. He started with Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura and Lamela as a front three against Watford and is likely to do so again against Norwich.

Jose’s return is a treat for SBOBET Premier League fans, but the Spurs faithful will hope he can rekindle his touch as the Special One.

Can Canaries win ugly again?

Norwich head coach Daniel Farke doesn’t want his team to disappear from the Premier League 2020 news without trace, but they are in danger of being the first club relegated, currently six points from safety.

The Canaries just about stayed in touch with the rest of the relegation strugglers with a vital 1-0 win over ten-man Bournemouth on Saturday. Teemu Pukki scored a first half penalty after Cherries skipper Steve Cook saw red for a spectacular handball. That’s ten goals for the Finnish hit man and he could be the key to the Canaries’ hopes of survival.

It would be a dramatic escape. But Farke has moved to strengthen his squad to give his team a fighting chance. Hertha Berlin attacking midfielder Ondrej Duda has signed a loan deal for the Canaries which will keep him at Carrow Road for the remainder of the season; and he has already linked up well with 21 year old wide man Todd Cantwell, who has six goals and two assists so far for Norwich.

History

The hosts have had the better if the head to head meetings as Spurs have won ten, drawn four and lost four of the 18 meetings in the Premier League era.

When playing at home Spurs have not lost to Norwich in the last three encounters, while the Canaries have won just once on the road this season, drawing twice and losing eight.

And the latest Spurs vs Norwich City betting odds are a clear reflection of those stats.

Betting Tip

??

Tottenham Hotspur vs Norwich City Under 3.25 @ 1.81
January 23, 03:30 (GMT+8)

Spurs are at 1.43 to win with the draw at 4.50 and Norwich are at 6.80 to spring a major surprise.

I think Jose’s team will end their winless streak, maybe with a little to spare, and if they can keep Cantwell and particularly Pukki quiet, then Gazzaniga should pick up another clean sheet.

The Spurs boss will make them well aware of the Yellow Peril and woe betide them if they slip up!

Premier League: Ten-Man Arsenal Give Chelsea the Blues

Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal

Arsenal came from behind twice to take a point from Chelsea after the Blues had dominated a thrilling London Derby from start to finish.

It was the second time Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta had faced each other in the last month, and this Premier League showdown was the big match of the night. The Blues were hoping to cement a top-four place, and Arsenal were trying to get the second half of their season started.

And the game didn’t disappoint. The pre-match Premier League 2020 betting odds for this match had the hosts as clear favourites, and the draw, at odds of 3.50, seemed highly unlikely after David Luiz was sent off midway through the first half.

But the Gunners somehow stayed in the game to take an unexpected point as returning skipper Hector Bellerin scored a late equaliser to send their travelling fans home in ecstasy.

Highlights of the game

Chelsea started the match all guns blazing, and Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi put in a last-ditch block to stop a shot from Mateo Kovacic. Then, Antonio Rudiger came close to getting on the end of a dangerous cross from Emerson.

Tammy Abraham had a great chance to open the scoring when Rudiger headed back a Callum Hudson-Odoi cross, but the Blues’ top scorer headed tamely into Bernd Leno’s arms.

The Blues also came agonizingly close on 17 minutes, when a speculative effort from Hudson-Odoi beat Leno but bounced off the bar to safety.

Then came the first big moment of the game. Mustafi hit a shocking back pass to Leno which Abraham intercepted, and as he rounded the keeper Luiz had little option but to pull the striker back and the referee pointed to the spot. Double jeopardy didn’t help the former Blues favourite and he was red-carded.

Jorginho is a master of the spot-kick and he despatched the penalty with ease to double Arsenal’s pain.

The big pre-match Premier League 2020 news was the return of Hector Bellerin to the line-up and he was given the captain’s armband. He had a monumental job on to pull his team back into the game, but they did have a chance before the break.

Bukayo Saka crossed and when the ball dropped to Nicolas Pepe, Emerson got his foot to the ball to clear.

The Blues had Arsenal on the ropes again at the start of the second period, but football’s a funny old game. So when N’Golo Kante slipped, Arsenal’s 18-year-old Brazilian starlet Gabriel Martinelli picked up the ball and drove towards the Chelsea penalty area before sliding the ball calmly past Kepa.

It looked like the Gunners were set to protect their point under serious pressure until Blues skipper Cesar Azpilicueta slid home a cross from Hudson-Odoi to send the home fans wild.

Hector Bellerin's late-game strike saved Arsenal from a Premier League loss as they escape with a draw

But the unexpected happened yet again, on 87 minutes, and it was the returning Bellerin who grabbed an unexpected point for the Gunners. There didn’t seem to be a shot on when the captain collected the ball on the edge of the box, but he cut inside and curled home a beauty…if you’re an Arsenal fan that is!

Key statistics

The Blues switched off at the end of their recent match against Newcastle United and came away from a game they should have won with nothing to show for it. This time, after dominating from start to finish, they had to settle for a point.

The Gunners only had two shots all game, but they were both on target and they both beat Kepa. Chelsea had 19 shots, eight on target and the same result!

Arsenal are unbeaten in six away games, though they are winless in their last eight games away to Chelsea.

David Luiz is the first former Chelsea player to be sent off against the Blues since Vinnie Jones in 1995.

What’s next?

Chelsea are away to Hull City in the FA Cup next, and then have a huge Premier League clash with third-placed Leicester City. The Foxes have lost the last two but remain five points ahead of the Blues.

That’s a game we’ll be watching very closely at SBOBET, so keep it here for all the updates, the best odds and highlights.

The Gunners are away to Bournemouth in the FA Cup and then take a trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley. The Cherries have just ended a horrendous run of results with a home win against Brighton, while Burnley too have gone back to winning ways, beating Leicester at the weekend.

Premier League: Super-Sub Aguero to the Rescue for City

Sheffield United 0-1 Manchester City

Manchester City were made to work against Sheffield United and their stingy defence in their midweek Premier League clash. But Sergio Aguero came to the champions' rescue once again as he came on as a substitute to score the winning goal.

The result moves City six points clear of Leicester, who still have to face West Ham, for second place in the table and within 13 points of leaders Liverpool. Although, the Reds still have two games in hand as the Premier League 2020 odds to win the title remain overwhelming.

Highlights of the game

Despite scoring an astounding eight goals in his last five matches, Aguero found himself starting the match on the bench, with Pep Guardiola going with Gabriel Jesus up front.

But perhaps the bigger piece of Premier League 2020 news was that Aymeric Laporte made his return after a lengthy injury layoff as he started alongside Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho in a three-man defence.

Sheffield United wasted little time to get Laporte to work as they got in behind the City defence after seven minutes. However, Fernandinho made a crucial intervention on an attempted cross as the ball went safely into Ederson's arms.

City had to wait until the 19th minute for their first big chance on goal, and they very nearly scored from it. Riyad Mahrez teed up Raheem Sterling for a close-range strike, but the English star was denied by a brilliant save from Blades keeper Dean Henderson.

The young shot-stopper, who is on loan from City's bitter rivals Manchester United, would make another important stop six minutes later on Nicolas Otamendi's acrobatic overhead kick.

City would get another glorious opportunity to go ahead as they were awarded a penalty on 35 minutes as the tricky Mahrez was brought down in the area.

Despite failing to score, Gabriel Jesus is delighted as Man City win their Premier League match against Sheffield United
Gabriel Jesus reacts during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Sheffield United

Up stepped Gabriel Jesus to take the penalty, but again, Henderson produced more heroics as he saved the Brazilian's poor penalty. There was a legitimate case to be made that the penalty should have been re-taken as replays showed Henderson well off his line before the kick, but the Blades caught a big break.

Into the second half and City still couldn't find a way past the Blades' defence, which had conceded the second-fewest goals in the league behind only Liverpool.

Jesus had a chance to redeem himself after that penalty miss on 61 minutes, but Henderson was on hand to catch the City striker's relatively tame header.

Moments later, Sheffield United had one of their few chances to score in the match. After Ederson tried to cut out a cross, the ball broke to Lys Mousset, who attempted an audacious back-heel shot. But Ederson recovered in time to make the save.

The home side came even closer to grabbing a shock lead on 72 minutes. Enda Stevens delivered a dangerous ball across the face of the goal. Unfortunately for the Blades, the outstretched Oli McBurnie was unable to get the crucial touch.

But even if McBurnie had scored, there was a good chance the goal would've been chalked off by VAR as he was quite clearly offside.

And just a couple of minutes later, City finally found the breakthrough. Aguero, who had come on for Jesus a few minutes earlier, was once again the man to save City as he got on the end of Kevin De Bruyne's pinpoint cross and tapped the ball in.

City's reinforced defence did the rest as they shut Sheffield United out for the remainder of the match and claimed all three points.

Key statistics

It was just one game, but Laporte's return -- coupled with their change in formation -- made quite a difference to City's defence. They allowed Sheffield United just four shots the entire match, with Mousset back-heel the only one that was on target.

Meanwhile, City rained in 18 shots (five on target) after controlling 67 per cent of possession. Sterling was City's most dangerous player as he fired in five of those shots.

Kevin De Bruyne also had another strong game. The Belgian recorded his 15th assist of the season, six more than Trent Alexander-Arnold in second.

On the flipside, Gabriel Jesus has now missed three of his five Premier League penalties, the worst such success rate out of all players to take at least five spot-kicks.

What's next?

Man City will be in cup action for the next couple of games. First, they host Fulham in the FA Cup and then take on Manchester United in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final. They are in full control of that tie after winning the first leg, 3-1.

As for Sheffield United, they will travel to Millwall for their FA Cup assignment. The SBOBET odds will have them pegged as significant favourites to emerge victorious from that tie.

Premier League: Wolves are Hungry For Runaway Leaders

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool

They are the champions-elect and nothing short of an enforced stoppage from association football will stop them.

Their latest victory against their arch-rivals continued their unbeaten league record in 2019/2020 and, even now, despite many false dawns, one suspects even the most pessimistic Liverpool fans knows their title drought is about to end.

The question now is can they emulate one of the great English sides of modern-day and go through a Premier League campaign without defeat?

Talking Points

Premier League highlights have been a regular occurrence for the Merseysiders on their way to becoming runaway league leaders.

While deservedly taking the plaudits, what must also not be forgotten is how impressive their opponents have been in the first half of the campaign.

Indeed, with a much smaller squad, Wolves go into this midweek set of fixtures in sixth place - ahead of the likes of north London powerhouses Spurs and Arsenal.

Coached by two of the most impressive bosses in Europe right now in Nuno Espirito Santos and Jurgen Klopp, these two are the busiest top-flight teams in England. And while it may still be January, this will be Wolves’ 40th match of the season and Liverpool’s 39th.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set for a crunch match versus Liverpool in the Premier League
Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo celebrates after his side edge Southampton 3-2

It's easy to forget that amid the summer toil of the Europa League qualifying rounds, Wolves took only four points from their first six league games of the season.

They have been in largely fine form ever since and with a stronger squad, it would be interesting to see if they could bridge the gap currently separating them from fourth place.

At the weekend, they once more showed their quality accounts for character as much as class.

Based on that showing, it was easy to see why Wolves have earned 18 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season, seven more than any other team.

They have led for just 305 minutes in the top flight this campaign, the least amount of any side. In contrast, Liverpool have led for the most at 1,160 minutes.

Yet since the beginning of last season, only Liverpool and champions Manchester City have managed more points against established top-six opposition than Wolves, who have taken 24.

They will need to improve their head-to-head showing against Liverpool mind.

Wolves have won just one of the 11 Premier League meetings and have lost the last six, scoring just once in those games.

The leaders haven’t lost away against Wolves in league competition since August 1981 and indeed the only three players to score a Premier League goal for Wolves against them are Kenny Miller, Stephen Ward, and Steven Fletcher.

Team news wise, Diogo Jota is nearing a return to full fitness having missed the previous four matches with a calf injury but is unlikely to be risked for this one.

Liverpool have Fabinho fit again and Naby Keita and James Milner on their way back after a month out.

The biggest improvement has clearly been in defence since the signing of Virgil van Dijk two years ago. Klopp’s men have conceded just 14 league goals this term and have kept seven clean sheets in a row.

A win or draw at Molineux would mean Liverpool become only the fifth team in the history of the English Football League to go 40 or more league games undefeated, after Nottingham Forest (42, 1977-78), Arsenal (49, 2003-04), Chelsea (40, 2004-05) and Huddersfield Town (43, 2011).

That will surely be the incentive for them and Wolves.

History

Overall, Liverpool have 52 victories against Wolves who hold 36 triumphs to their name, while a further 17 meetings have ended all square.

Their last meeting in the black country came just over a year ago in the third round of the FA Cup -- albeit with much-changed sides -- when the hosts emerged victorious, thanks to a Ruben Neves wonder strike.

Betting Tip

??

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Double Chance Wolverhampton Wanderers or Draw @ 2.06
January 24, 04:00 (GMT+8)

As you would expect with the SBOBET Premier League betting odds, Liverpool are firm favourites.

You can back them 1X2 @ 1.71 and with Asian Handicap betting -1.00 @ 2.20.

A repeat of their narrow victory from a month ago – correct score 0-1 – will payout @ 6.80, while a re-run of last season’s 2-0 league triumph is available @ 8.00.

If Wolves were to repeat their 2-1 FA Cup success of last term, there are odds of @ 17.00.

Wolves can be backed 1X2 @ 4.80 – First Half 1X2 is exactly the same interestingly – and with Asian Handicap betting +0.75 @ 2.03.

My two-star prediction, however, is Double Chance Wolves or Draw @ 2.06.

What a scalp that would be.

Premier League: Leicester Hammer Woeful West Ham

Leicester City 4-1 West Ham United

Leicester City's slump is over. The Foxes bounced back from back-to-back Premier League defeats in emphatic fashion as they thumped West Ham United at home, 4-1.

Goals from Harvey Barnes and Ricardo Pereira, as well as a late Ayoze Perez brace saw Leicester go back to within three points of Manchester City in second.

The Premier League 2020 odds had the Foxes favoured by a significant margin despite their recent slump, and so it proved as they thoroughly dominated a listless West Ham side.

However, it was not all good news for Leicester as Jamie Vardy had to exit before half-time with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. It's certainly one to keep an eye on the Premier League 2020 updates for further developments.

Highlights of the game

It took the home side just three minutes to fire their first shot on West Ham's goal. Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy combined beautifully down the left-hand side. However, Vardy's left-footed strike went straight at Hammers keeper Darren Randolph.

West Ham's first real notable effort on goal came on 15 minutes from a corner. Kasper Schmeichel was unable to properly punch the ball clear, but Aaron Cresswell couldn't capitalise with his header.

Leicester did eventually take the lead on 23 minutes. After another well-worked Leicester move, Ricardo Pereira got free and dinked the ball over Randolph, and Barnes was on hand to hammer the ball into the net.

Jamie Vardy has suffered an injury during Leicester City's Premier League clash against West Ham United
Leicester City star Jamie Vardy looks in pain during their recent Premier League match against West Ham United

However, Leicester fans' celebrations were muted on 40 minutes as Jamie Vardy went down in pain after a clearance clutching the back of his left leg. The Premier League top scorer tried to continue but he eventually had to come off. Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored in their first meeting against West Ham this season, took his place.

But the Leicester faithful were in full voice right on the stroke of half-time as they doubled their lead. This time around, Barnes turned provider for Pereira as his pass found the completely unmarked Portuguese full-back, who smashed the ball home.

Just three minutes into the second half, though, West Ham were handed a lifeline as they were awarded a penalty. Wilfred Ndidi, who came on during the break, was adjudged to have fouled Sebastian Haller inside the box.

Mark Noble stepped up to take the spot-kick, and the ever-reliable Hammers skipper made no mistake as he calmly passed the ball right down the middle.

Leicester piled on the pressure as they looked to restore their two-goal advantage. Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes both had decent opportunities, as did James Maddison, whose spectacular long-range strike was denied by an equally brilliant save from Randolph.

But Leicester's pressure eventually paid off on 79 minutes as they were awarded a penalty of their own. Iheanacho was bundled over by Angelo Ogbonna, who was also booked for his troubles. Perez stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake as he blasted it in.

And Perez wasn't done. He capped off the scoring on 88 minutes as he produced a fine finish right into the bottom corner.

Despite the concerning injury of Vardy, it was still a great night all around for Brendan Rodgers and

Key statistics

Leicester have been among the best home sides in the league this season, and they improved that record to eight wins, two draws, and two defeats, with 24 goals scored and 12 conceded.

Their dominance was quite evident in the final statistics. They controlled 68 per cent of possession and outshot the Hammers, 19-6. Eight of the Foxes' shots were on target, and half found the back of the net.

Perez and Pereira were the standout performers for Leicester. Both had a team-high four shots, which is very impressive in Pereira's case seeing as he's a right-back.

Meanwhile, West Ham's struggles in attack continue. Their front two of Sebastian Haller and Manuel Lanzini didn't produce a single shot between them for the entire 90 minutes, which is not good enough.

The Hammers are now down to 17th in the table, tied with both Bournemouth and Watford on 23 points. Although, they do still have a game in hand.

What's next?

Both Leicester and West Ham will take a break from Premier League action to play in the FA Cup fourth round. Leicester are away to Brentford but are nevertheless big favourites to go through according to the SBOBET odds.

Meanwhile, West Ham will be at home to West Bromwich Albion. Given the Hammers' poor form of late, they could very easily get knocked out by the Baggies, who are currently top of the Championship.

Premier League: Burnley Stun Manchester United at Old Trafford

Manchester United 0-2 Burnley

Fans over at Old Trafford were left disheartened once more as they’ve lost to Burnley with an identical tally to their reverse Premier League fixture just a month ago.

Manchester United suffered another loss to their listless campaign, losing three of their last five, while slipping out of the top four.

After being badly outplayed by Liverpool the last time around, one would think that the Red Devils would find a way to bounce back. But alas, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men didn’t come out with the right approach to give their fans a good show.

Meanwhile, Burnley came to play with great efforts from Chris Wood and Jay Rodriguez. The Clarets’ forward haunted the Red Devils’ defence as they scored one goal apiece.

With the victory, Burnley have improved to the 13th spot at the table. They are currently level with the likes of Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Everton and Newcastle.

SBOBET provides you the recap of this match last night.

Highlights of the game

Chris Wood opens the scoresheet as Burnley edged past Man United in their Premier League encounter
Burnley forward Chris Wood celebrates after scoring the opener against Manchester United

Coming into the game, Manchester United’s Premier League 2020 odds of winning this match were lower when Marcus Rashford was confirmed to be out due to a back injury. But it’s still higher compared to Burnley’s.

The Red Devil’s top scorer suffered a stress fracture on his back during their game against the Wolves in the FA Cup. He is reportedly expected to miss around six weeks.

With him out, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had to rely more on the likes of Anthony Martial, Daniel James, and Andreas Pereira. Juan Mata, who is seldom used prior to this match, was put in the midfield to try and get their creative juices flowing.

Manchester United had some openings early on but they failed to capitalise. In the 22nd minute, Juan Mata fired a long-range shot that was blocked by a Burnley defender. Fred followed it up by a strike of his own, but Nick Pope was there to produce a fine save.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka tried his luck by letting out a nice volley for a possible header attempt in the 31st minute, but Daniel James’ shot was parried away once more by Nick Pope. Anthony Martial had his chance too, but Burnley’s compact defence was too much to handle.

Burnley would finally get in the scoreboard at the 39th minute via a set piece. After a long free kick towards inside the box, Ben Mee knocked down the ball towards a cutting Chris Wood for a smashing goal.

Fast forward to the 56th minute, the Clarets would one more sequence to their Premier League 2020 highlights when Jay Rodriguez fired his attempt into the top corner of David de Gea’s near post that found the back of the net. That play started when the Red Devils’ failed to clear the ball out after a throw-in by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Mason Greenwood almost gave Manchester United a prime opportunity to score when he was fouled near the penalty area. However, after reviewing the VAR, the referees downgraded their initial red card call to a yellow card to Ashley Westwood.

United kept on firing long-range strikes within the last 30 minutes, but Burnley’s wall of a defence prevented them to create great chances.

Towards the end, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood had decent chances. However, their attempts would either be too wide or high or saved by Nick Pope.

With their lacklustre showing, fans over at Old Trafford mercilessly rained down boos and most of them left the arena even before the match officially ended.

OGS would have to find some suitable reinforcements soon to halt this downward spiral. But of course, you also have to give credit to Burnley manager Sean Dyche for his club’s great performance.

“We’re all disappointed. The players are disappointed, the club’s disappointed, but what else can we do than come in tomorrow and know that we’re wearing a Man United shirt and work to improve again?” remarked Solskjaer during the postgame interview.

Key statistics

Manchester United posted a whopping total of 24 shot attempts compared to only five by Burnley. They also controlled 73-per cent of the possession.

Since he was made permanent manager for United, OGS have lost more Premier League games (12) than they have won (11).

The Clarets have finally won an away match against Manchester United since September 1962.

Chris Wood’s goal at the 39th minute was Burnley’s first goal in the first half of a match since November.

What’s next?

The Red Devils will temporarily turn their focus in the FA Cup to where they are still waiting for their fourth round opponent as of this writing.

After that, they’ll face their inter-city rivals in Manchester City at the Football League Cup. Then they’ll resume their Premier League campaign as they host the Wolves on February 2nd.

For Burnley, they will lock horns against Norwich City in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Then they’ll get to host Arsenal on February 2nd as well.

Premier League: The Champions Elect March On

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Liverpool

The Premier League champions-elect march on.

The title race has long been over, but could Liverpool clinch the championship earlier in the season than it has ever before been secured?

Sixteen points clear with a game in hand, there are no Premier League betting odds anywhere in the world that would back anything other than a Merseysiders’ title procession.

Highlights of the game

Some suggested this could be the match in which their unbeaten league run, stretching over a year, could end – even if that didn’t please some fans of the runaway league leaders.

Either way, it was likely something would have to give.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves had been unbeaten in their past seven home evening kick-offs in the Premier League, winning five and drawing two. While Liverpool had won their last eight evening kick-offs in the Premier League, scoring 31 goals in these games and conceding just six.

This contest always had the potential to create Premier League highlights with both sides hungry for success.

This also threatened to be a close contest, as it was when the sides met just under a month ago.

Liverpool increased their Premier League lead to 16 points with a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers
Liverpool score the goal against the defence of the Wolves

There was a familiar look to the scoreline just nine minutes in though when sheer determination paid dividends.

A player his manager believes has improved since the confidence-boosting events in Spain last summer when he lifted the Champions League, Jordan Henderson showed tenacity to charge onto a pinpoint corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold and forced the ball home via his shoulder.

Into the second half and the home side were level within six minutes as Raul Jimenez drove into the Liverpool half and fed Adama Traore into space before continuing his run into the box. Traore delivered expertly and Jimenez expertly directed his finish into the corner on the run.

Liverpool, who had won their last seven Premier League games without conceding a goal (the last time a team won eight in a row without conceding was in February 2009 when Manchester United won nine straight), were not to be denied victory.

Again, their captain played a key part.

Mo Salah nutmegged a defender and held the ball up on the edge of the box before Henderson took charge, slipping the pass-through to Roberto Firmino who did the rest.

Liverpool are on track to become one of English football’s best-ever championship-winning sides – of that there is no dispute.

Key statistics

Liverpool have taken 94 points from the past 96 available in the Premier League.

Since the start of last season, Alexander-Arnold has assisted 22 top-flight goals - at least five more than any other player - with 10 of those coming from dead balls (also a league-high).

Firmino has scored six goals in his last eight games for Liverpool in all competitions, as many as he had in his previous 32 appearances for the club.

Each of his last 11 goals for Liverpool in all competitions have been netted away from Anfield.

It was the 17th time this Premier League season that the Wolves conceded the opening goal, at least three more than any other team. They have also fallen 1-0 behind in each of their last eight league games.

Wolves duo Traoré and Jiménez have combined for eight Premier League goals this season, more than any other partnership in the competition.

Jiménez’s goal ended a run of 725 minutes in which Liverpool had not conceded a Premier League goal.

Wolves have scored more than two-thirds of their league goals after half-time since the start of last season, the highest proportion of any current top-flight side.

Liverpool haven’t lost away to Wolves in the league since August 1981 and this was Wolves’ seventh consecutive Premier League defeat against them – their longest PL losing streak versus a single opponent. They lost six consecutive matches against Arsenal from 2003 to 2011.

Disclaimer: Odds are correct at time of publish.

Liverpool (won 22, drawn one, lost none) are now on the third longest unbeaten streak from the start of a Premier League season. Only Arsenal (all 38 in 2003/04) and Manchester United (24 in 2010/11) had a longer run.

What’s next?

After such a relentless period, Wolves will probably be glad of just over a week away from competitive matches now.

They travel to Man United a week on Saturday (February 1) to play the Red Devils for the third time in under a month and then have a fortnight break before hosting Leicester City in the top flight on February 14.

Liverpool are back in action at the weekend as they travel to lowly Shrewsbury in the FA Cup fourth round. They are then at West Ham in the Premier League next midweek before welcoming Southampton to Anfield on February 1.

Premier League: Liverpool Look to Hand out More Hammers Misery

West Ham United vs Liverpool

Liverpool's procession toward the Premier League title continues. The Reds restored their 16-point lead atop the table after a late win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. They have now won 14 Premier League matches in a row, four away from tying Manchester City's all-time mark of 18 straight wins.

The leaders will now have their sights set on picking up their 15th win in a row as they pay West Ham a visit at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have continued their worrying slide under David Moyes and are currently out of the relegation zone only by goal difference. And with West Ham's poor home form this season, the Premier League 2020 odds will be even more in the Reds' favour.

Talking Points

Moyes not making a difference

David Moyes' West Ham return has not delivered the results that Hammers fans were hoping for. After winning their first two games with Moyes at the helm, the Hammers have gone winless in their last four with three defeats and a draw. That includes a heavy 4-1 defeat at Leicester City, as well as a humiliating 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

While Moyes did make some changes to his starting line-up -- he had 22-year-old Albian Ajeti partner Sebastien Haller up front -- it was still a side that should've taken care of a Championship side, especially after West Brom went down to 10 men with 20 minutes to go.

Despite the talents of Haller, Pablo Fornals, and Felipe Anderson at his disposal, Moyes has simply been unable to get a tune out of the Hammers' attack, which has scored just twice in their last four matches.

And to make matters worse, West Ham's home woes have persisted this season. The Hammers have the second-worst home record in the league with just 11 points from 11 matches, including six defeats.

West Ham have also continued to struggle at the back. They've conceded 38 goals, tied for the fourth-most in the league. It will take quite a special performance for the Hammers' defence to keep Liverpool from scoring.

Premier League: Sadio Mane was substituted in the first half of their match against Manchester United due to injury
Sadio Mane reacts during Liverpool's Premier League match against Manchester United

Mane a major injury doubt

Liverpool just keep winning. Despite being given a tough test by Wolves, the Reds recovered and snatched a later winner through Roberto Firmino, which extended their remarkable run to 14 consecutive league wins.

However, it was not all good news for Liverpool as Sadio Mane had to come off in the first half with a suspected hamstring injury. He now joins the likes of James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri on Liverpool's injury list.

The Premier League 2020 updates on Mane's availability against West Ham remain unclear, although it's unlikely he will be risked so soon after a hamstring injury.

But Klopp has managed to cope with all the different injury setbacks to his squad this season, whether it be to Alisson, Fabinho, or one of their front three.

Even with Mane out, Liverpool should still be a formidable force going forward with the likes of Divock Origi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Takumi Minamino set to come in and start alongside Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

And on the other end of the pitch, Liverpool's defence will like its chances on containing West Ham's sputtering attack. The Reds gave up a goal against Wolves, which was actually the first they've conceded in their last seven league matches.

History

West Ham held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in this fixture last season. Michail Antonio equalised after Sadio Mane had put the Reds in front. However, Liverpool had dominated the previous four meetings, winning 4-0 twice and 4-1 twice.

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed facing the Hammers. He's scored four goals in his last four games against them. Mane has also had his success against West Ham with four in his last three.

Betting Tip

??

West Ham United vs Liverpool Under 3.00 Goals @ 1.93
January 30, 03:45 (GMT+8)

Unsurprisingly, SBOBET odds have Liverpool priced as significant favourites at 1.38 to win. West Ham are 7.60 to snatch a shock home win, while a draw is 4.60.

However, I like the over under market for this match, which has the makings of a low-scoring affair. It's been evident in Liverpool's recent league matches that they have been all too happy with grinding out results. Five of their last seven matches have seen under three goals.

Mane's absence will likely dull Liverpool's attack a little, while the Reds' outstanding defence should have a similar effect on the Hammers' struggling forward line.

Liverpool should still be able to come away with London Stadium with all three points, but don't expect them to go out and hammer West Ham. Instead, expect a more conservative 1-0 or 2-0 victory.

EFL Cup: Midlands Battle for EFL Final Place

Aston Villa vs Leicester City

Aston Villa and Leicester City renew hostilities on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup semi-final at Villa Park, and there is everything to play for.

This is the more intriguing of the two EFL Cup semi-finals, nicely poised at 1-1 after the first leg and with the underdogs, Aston Villa, at home. In the other semi-final, City have taken control of the Manchester Derby and the latest EFL Cup 2020 betting odds place Pep Guardiola’s team as the clear odd-on favourites, with the Foxes the most likely to pick up the trophy if the Sky Blues slip up.

Despite playing away, Leicester are at odds of 1.38 to progress to the final, with Villa at 3.38. It promises to be a ding dong battle as the East Midlands’ best club travels 40 miles west.

Talking Points

Heaton injury is a big blow to Villa

Despite Villa storming back to win a crucial bottom of the table clash with Watford last week, the latest SBOBET odds point to a nerve-jangling end to the season for the Villains, at 2.00 to drop through the trapdoor, with only Norwich City and Bournemouth odds on.

An injury to keeper Tom Heaton, during a recent win over Burnley, has put the England stopper out of action until the end of the season and head coach Dean Smith has moved to bring in Pepe Reina to replace him. The loss of Heaton is a problem for Smith because, as well as being an excellent shot-stopper, the former Burnley captain organises his defence with real authority. His understudy, Jed Steer, is also struggling with injury so Smith had little option but to call on the 37-year-old Reina.

Currently, at AC Milan, he has arrived at Villa Park on loan until the end of the season and he brings a wealth of experience, as a World Cup winner who made 394 appearances for Liverpool between 2005 and 2013.

His Premier League nous might be crucial in the run-in, as will the form of skipper Jack Grealish, who has been sensational in the first half of the season. The Villa fan is the main reason his beloved side isn’t in much deeper trouble and he holds the key to their cup hopes on Tuesday.

EFL Cup: Jack Jack Grealish is expected to lead Aston Villa against Leicester City
Jack Grealish in action for Aston Villa during their match against Watford

Plenty of Claret for the Foxes

After losing to Burnley last Sunday Brendan Rodgers’ team was back to its best in midweek, hammering the Hammers 4-1. Ayoze Perez added to goals from Harvey Barnes and Ricardo Pereira to dump West Ham in serious relegation trouble. Now they face the Premier League’s other Claret and Blues when they come up against Villa this week.

Rodgers’ side were certainly blue as Burnley roared back to beat them last week, but the claret was flowing as they destroyed West Ham. Which way will it go this time?

Vardy in fitness race

The big pre-match EFL Cup 2020 news is the discussion over Leicester’s striking options. Jamie Vardy has been in scintillating form this season but his place is in a little doubt after he was withdrawn during the victory over the Hammers. Rodgers says the injury is not as bad as first feared and he is hopeful of playing a part against Villa.

I suspect he may start on the bench with Kelechi Iheanacho likely to start in the hope of continuing a rich vein of form himself. He scored the equaliser in the first leg and was on target again on Saturday, scoring the only goal in the Foxes’ FA Cup fourth-round win over Brentford.

Leicester will be without midfield star Nampalys Mendy, who picked up a knee injury in the first half against West Ham.

History

These Midlands clashes are always worth watching. There have been ten draws in the 26 meetings over the past 26 years with Villa winning seven to Leicester’s nine.

Both teams will come into the game in confident mood. The Foxes have recovered from back-to-back defeats with two wins, while Aston Villa’s victory over Watford was a first in five games.

Betting Tip

??

Aston Villa vs Leicester City Leicester 1X2 @ 1.75
January 29, 03:45 (GMT+8)

Villa are at odds of 3.95 and the draw at 3.65 for this second leg and, while I think it will by a tight game, Leicester have much more quality in their side and seem to have overcome their little blip.

The hosts’ best hope is a moment of magic from Grealish and that would set the stadium alight.

If Grealish produces that moment, 1-2 is a decent long-shot at odds of 7.00.

EFL Cup: Manchester’s Finest Aim For Wembley

Manchester City vs Manchester United

The most telling statistic that outlines the great difference between these two English football institutions is that, since Sheikh Mansour bought the club 11 years ago, Manchester City have spent in excess of £1 billion on players and facilities.

During the same period, Manchester United have paid the same amount just on interest repayments on their debt alone. If ever you needed an example of the different pathways taken by these city rivals, look no further. That should be evident on the pitch this midweek too.

Holding a 3-1 lead from the EFL Cup semi-final first leg, City are now in a different sphere to United, for so long the dominant force in England.

Yes, their financial power – unseen at this level before in the game – has helped enormously, but so has United’s ability to self-destruct.

This observer believes the club, under the direction of chief executive Ed Woodward (presumably backed by club owners The Glazer family), has become too focused on the profits and not the football.

A money-making commercial machine but a mediocre football team where what goes on the pitch has become secondary.

The United powers-that-be insist not but it will take a turnaround in this tie to even begin to open the debate, such is the entrenched view of many.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to lead Manchester United for a better result in EFL Cup
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer celebrates after their match FA Cup against Tranmere Rovers

Ole Gunnar’s Solskjaer’s shortcomings are also becoming brutally exposed and, while the fans will not turn on a club favourite, critics naturally suggest the current CEO is hiding behind a manager who should not have been appointed in the first place.

So, can United fans really expect any EFL Cup highlights of their own later this week?

Talking Points

With full respect to champions City, much focus has been on United in recent days.

In the words of respected football journalist Henry Winter: ‘the malaise runs far deeper than Solskjaer’s limitations. Glazer culture all about investors' interests not fans, about profits not the football. Club needs more footballing expertise. Recruitment needs players who are tougher mentally.’

How could you disagree with that statement? It’s on occasions like this that United, under Sir Alex Ferguson, would relish. Going into the backyard of neighbours and rivals (often with greater financial resources than themselves) and putting them firmly in their place.

So many of the characters from those days have gone and not been replaced.

That’s not to say, the United crop of 2020 does not have potential. In fact, the young full-backs Brandon Williams and the expensively acquired Aaron Wan-Bissaka should have an exciting future ahead, and there are others too.

But will they be nurtured, guided correctly and allowed to improve alongside more established and experienced professionals with the right attitude and mentality?

That remains to be seen but one thing that is certain, United currently cannot match the guile and class that stretches right through a City team comprising world class talents like Sergio Aguero, David Silva and the recently returned Aymeric Laporte.

City were also able to rest key performers at the weekend ahead of this tie, whereas United are fully stretched with a squad short on genuine talent and depth. This will also be their ninth match this month.

Realistically, that suggests this second leg is a formality before it even begins.

History

These two have produced so many Premier League highlights over the years.

Only last month, United recorded a victory which was as thrilling as it was unexpected.

City gained revenge in the first leg of this semi-final three weeks ago.

Last season City completed a league double over United. They were 3-1 home winners, courtesy of strikes fromSilva, Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan. The visitors replied through an Anthony Martial penalty. City also won, crucially, 2-0 at Old Trafford in April when Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane were the marksmen.

Cast your mind back 20 months ago and there was a famous victory for United in this fixture.

At 2-0 up at the break, City were about to be crowned champions but United delayed their coronation with a fine 3-2 fightback spearheaded by Paul Pogba (two) and Chris Smalling.

United have the edge historically, winning 74 of their meetings compared to City’s 53 triumphs and 52 draws.

Betting Tip

City are clear favourites whichever way you look at it with the SBOBET EFL Cup betting odds.

EFL Cup: Late Drama as Villa Through to Final

Aston Villa 2-1 (3-2 on agg.) Leicester City

Aston Villa are in the EFL Cup final thanks to a 93rd-minute goal from Trezeguet which put an end to Leicester City’s challenge in a pulsating semi-final clash.

Villa Park was packed to the rafters after a 1-1 draw in the first leg had left this tie finely balanced, and the pre-match SBOBET odds pointed to a tight match with Villa at odds of 3.95 to win the battle of the Midlands.

These two teams are at opposite ends of the Premier League table, but form goes out of the window in cup games, and now Villa have a date at Wembley to look forward to.

Highlights of the game

The injury to Villa’s number one keeper, Tom Heaton, has meant game time for Orjan Nyland, and the understudy played a blinder in the first leg to earn Villa a draw. And he was in brilliant form again tonight as he was called into action with just two minutes on the clock.

In a fast and frenetic start, Kelechi Iheanacho outmuscled Tyrone Mings and could have gone down under pressure from the Villa defender. But he kept his feet to get a shot away from a tight angle which Nyland blocked.

He made an even better save a couple of minutes later when Leicester broke again and James Maddison shot through Mings’ legs. And as the Foxes heaped on the pressure, the Norwegian stopper denied Maddison again with a fingertip save.

Then, on 12 minutes, Villa went ahead. Jack Grealish made a driving run forward before flicking a delightful ball to the oncoming Matt Targett, who slammed the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.

Orjan Nyland made crucial saves in order to keep Aston Villa's EFL Cup hopes alive
Aston Villa's Orjan Nyland celebrates with his teammates after defeating Leicester City

Leicester came within inches of equalising on 31 minutes when Youri Tielemans hit a scorching shot, but Nyland made another fingertip save to divert the ball onto the bar.

Villa have been playing without a recognised striker for the last four games, and so head coach Dean Smith gave a start to new signing Mbwana Samatta after his switch from Genk. He didn’t have a sniff in a first half dominated by Leicester but his side still went into the break in front.

The Tanzanian striker had a glorious chance to mark his debut with a goal when Grealish played a brilliant defence-splitting ball through, but Samatta didn’t get a touch on it and that was his last action of the game. He got a warm reception from the crowd.

But the home fans were stunned on 71 minutes as the Foxes equalised, and it was that man Iheanacho who struck again. Harvey Barnes hit a cross-shot which fell into his path and he smashed it high into the net to make it 1-1.

Leicester were in the ascendancy but Maddison just kept on missing, and the Foxes paid the price deep in injury time.

With penalties looming, Ahmed Elmohamady swung over a superb ball and fellow substitute Trezeguet poked home at the far post to send the Villa fans wild!

What a finish!

Key statistics

The Villans managed just three shots in the first leg at the King Power, and they tripled that tonight, though the Foxes had 22 and Villa’s keeper made six fine saves.

Pick up the EFL Cup 2020 highlights if you can; Hyland was inspired!

Leicester were unbeaten in their last 16 away matches in the EFL Cup but it seems they were doomed to fail tonight. Each of the last six teams to draw the first leg of an EFL semi-final had gone on to be eliminated, and now it’s seven!

What’s next?

Aston Villa will soon discover which Manchester team they are set to meet when City host United in the second semi-final tomorrow.

The EFL Cup 2020 betting odds overwhelmingly favour the Sky Blues after they took a firm hold on the tie, winning 1-3 at Old Trafford. Then it’s back to Premier League matters for these two sides when they face very different challenges.

The Foxes are riding high in third place, comfortably in possession of a Champions League place, and they bounced back from two consecutive defeats with a comprehensive 4-1 hammering of West Ham.

That victory lifted Rodgers’ team 14 points clear of fifth place and just three points behind Manchester City in second. They can put further distance between themselves and fourth-placed Chelsea when Frank Lampard’s Blues visit the King Power Stadium; the gap is currently eight points.

Two league wins in four have lifted Villa out of the relegation zone and into a group of five teams separated by just two points, with Norwich City cut adrift.

Next up, they face one of their closest rivals in a six-pointer, as they make the trip to the south coast to take on 18th placed Bournemouth.

EFL Cup: Spirited United Win Again but It’s Not Enough

Manchester City 0-1 (3-2 on agg.) Manchester United

As the football alert on my phone informed me that Nemanja Matic had fired Manchester United ahead, I had a quick look at the EFL Cup stats.

At that point Manchester City had mustered nine efforts, three on target, and United a solitary one.

Could a smash-and-grab against their city rivals really be on the cards?

Yes, before the match, home manager Pep Guardiola had said all the right things, stressing he was wary of the threat that United would pose.

But, with a 3-1 lead from a dominant first leg, the outcome seemed a formality and the SBOBET EFL Cup 2020 betting odds agreed emphatically.

A one-sided first leg, indeed a one-sided first half, meant this tie was all but over just a quarter of the way in and a repeat of last month’s Premier League victory for United always unlikely.

Highlights of the game

Nemanja Matic scored the only goal of the EFL Cup clash between Manchester United and Manchester City
Manchester United's Nemanja Matic celebrates after scoring the opening goal against Manchester City

Well, the big EFL Cup 2020 news is that it is, as expected, City who will meet Aston Villa in the final on March 1 as they bid to win the competition for the fourth time in five years.

Yet United did defy the odds and have now won twice at City in a single season for the first time since 1956-57.

That should not fool anyone, though.

Other than the goal, United did not really test home keeper Claudio Bravo and City should have made it a lot easier than it was in the end.

The "perfect performance" that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had said was necessary to spark any turnaround was suddenly more than a pipe dream when Matic struck 10 minutes before the break.

It was a fine strike, perfectly placed to deceive Bravo, after Fred’s free-kick had flicked off Bernardo Silva’s head.

By then David de Gea had kept out Sergio Aguero, blocked Riyad Mahrez’s deflected shot with his legs, turned away an Aguero shot bound for the near, top corner, while Harry Maguire had to produce a saving challenge on Raheem Sterling.

United, under pressure from boardroom level down, survived through a combination of doggedness (Matic was later sent-off for a second booking) and City profligacy as the tie went down to the wire, although they rarely threatened again.

Despite this result, as Manchester’s finest aimed for Wembley, the reality is still very clear. Here is one coach searching for fixes and a coach still striving to build something worthy of fixing.

Did tonight provide genuine reasons for encouragement or false promise for United?

I’m not so sure but my head still says the latter.

Key statistics

City are only the third team to reach three League Cup finals in a row, after Liverpool (four in a row between 1981 and 1984) and Nottingham Forest (1978 to 1980).

Only one other team has ever beaten City twice at the Etihad in a single season, with Arsenal winning two games in 2004-05.

This was Matic’s first goal since Boxing Day 2018 vs Huddersfield - 399 days ago.

He is the first United player to both score and be sent off in a game since Wayne Rooney against West Ham in the Premier League in September 2014.

United have lost just one of their last 125 games in all competitions when leading at half-time (won 109, drawn 14), a 2-1 defeat against Astana in the Europa League.

United are the first side to beat City in domestic cup competition (League Cup and FA Cup) since Wigan did so during the 2018 FA Cup, ending City’s 19-game unbeaten run in such fixtures.

Solskjaer is just the third manager to win two away matches against Pep Guardiola in his managerial career, after José Mourinho and Jürgen Klopp.

City have won just one of their last seven home matches against United (won one, drawn one, lost four).

United now have consecutive away victories against City for the first time since winning four in a row between November 1993 and November 2000.

In all competitions, the home side has won just two of the last 12Manchester derbies, including each of the last four.

Only one of the previous 30 teams to win a League Cup semi-final first leg by two or more goals have then been eliminated, with Tranmere Rovers going out against Aston Villa in 1993-94 (3-1 first leg, 1-3 second leg, lost 5-4 on penalties).

What’s next?

City have a tough Premier League encounter at Spurs on Sunday and then host West Ham the following weekend (February 9) before their brief winter break.

United have just one match before their interlude, a home league encounter with Wolves on Saturday teatime (February 1).
