After the siesta, now it’s time to return to the action

Football games in Spain ease back after the international break.

A break in which the national side boosted morale with a victory in France and in which a number of La Liga players did their cause no harm at all.

Back to the bread and butter now then of Spanish sports betting with still a glimmer of hope for both the title chasers and two of the bottom three, even if betting odds largely suggest otherwise.

WEEK 29 SATURDAY:

Espanyol vs Real Betis

This is one of the matches which the final third of a season can throw up.

Two teams with little to play for and both very comfortable in the table.

The hosts know victory will keep alive their outside hopes of European qualification.

Villarreal vs Eibar

For a side with the destiny of fifth spot in their own hands, the Yellow Submarine could have done without defeat at Las Palmas.

It makes life tougher, especially with Eibar one of three sides breathing down their necks.

A good time, maybe, for winger Samu Castillejo to show more of the form which has seen him reportedly linked with a summer move to Napoli.

Osasuna vs Athletic Bilbao

With Osasuna all but down, could they now relax and actually perform better than they have managed for most of the campaign?

One league win all season suggests not.

Bilbao want European football regularly and showed they can live with their best by scaring Real Madrid at San Mames.

WEEK 29 SUNDAY:

Real Sociedad vs Leganes

Another side with genuine European hopes, Sociedad are in sixth spot.

Yet their Basque neighbours are chasing them hard, indeed Alaves won the derby before the international break.

Sociedad arguably boast one of the best academies in Spain well and continue to make their mark at this level.

Malaga vs Atletico Madrid

With Antoine Griezmann arguably in the form of his life, Atletico fans dream of Champions League glory.

They can also now hope for third spot in La Liga after seeing off Sevilla in their last match.

That win moved them to within two points of their opponents and an automatic place in next season’s Champions League.

Sevilla vs Sporting Gijon

Sevilla know more than anyone that the heat is now on.

A miserable week was compounded by their 3-1 defeat to Atletico, days after they were knocked out of the Champions League by Leicester City.

With their title hopes now also over, they need to get back on the pace against lowly Sporting – who won last time out – and end their longest run without a victory since Jorge Sampoli took over last summer.

Real Madrid vs Alaves

Whatever happens over the next two months it has been a super season for Alaves, chasing an unlikely European berth and through to the final of the Copa del Rey.

Midfielder Victor Camarasa has called for his team to give 100 per cent in the Bernabeu and they will enjoy the occasion.

But Real, boosted by Barcelona’s defeat three weeks ago, have a spring in their step in the title race once again with Cristiano Ronaldo on fire as they embark on a double header against newly promoted clubs.

WEEK 29 MONDAY:

Valencia vs Deportivo La Coruna

Valencia gave Barcelona a fright a fortnight ago.

Deportivo must have been frustrated beyond belief, slipping to a 1-0 home defeat to Celta Vigo a week after seeing off the Catalans.

Two clubs who remember better times in the not-too-distant past and want back in Europe – but it won’t be next season.

Granada vs Barcelona

How Granada react to their defeat to relegation rivals Sporting could shape the rest of their season.

A heavy defeat in this one would no doubt demoralise them beyond the point of return.

Barcelona have a Champions League quarter-final on their minds, not to mention Gerard Pique’s comments about the ‘values’ of Real Madrid and the national team ban given to Lionel Messi – time to close ranks and show what their made of?

WEEK 29 TUESDAY:

Celta Vigo vs Las Palmas

The proverbial mid-table clash and both teams have reasons to be pleased.

Las Palmas’ progress has been consistent and they have consolidated well in only their second term back in the top flight.

While Vigo would hope to be better placed in the table, they are genuine contenders for the Europa League as they prepare for the quarter-finals.

And now it’s a Two-Horse Race for Spanish Football Bets

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to battle it out for the La Liga crown having shaken off the rest of the pack.

The two giants of Spanish football had big wins while Sevilla could only draw with lowly Sporting Gijon, a result which upset Jorge Sampaoli as well as the betting odds, as his team slips ten points off the pace. Now online gambling fans can look no further than Madrid and Catalonia.

Real Madrid 3-0 Alaves

The title favorites stay atop the Primera Division after Karim Benzema set them on course for a three-goal win which actually looks more convincing than it was. The home fans had to wait until the 84th minute for Isco to settle matters with a brilliant solo effort. A third from Nacho was harsh on an impressive Alaves side.

Granada 1-4 Barcelona

Barca stay within two points of the lead after dumping ten-man Granada. The hosts remain in deep trouble, second bottom, but had briefly drawn level on 50 minutes when Jeremie Boga cancelled out Luis Suarez’ opener. Paco Alcacer restored the lead and then it was game over when Granada’s Henry Agbo saw red. An own goal and a Neymar sitter made it four.

Malaga 0-2 Atletico Madrid

It’s four wins on the bounce for Diego Simeone’s Atletico after dispatching Malaga thanks to an opener from Koke and Filipe Luis’ first goal of the season, which sealed the three points on 74 minutes. Atletico go third while Malaga still need points to avoid the drop.

Sevilla 0-0 Sporting Gijon Sevilla’s title challenge looks dead in the water after they failed to break down a plucky Sporting Gijon side fighting for their lives. Stevan Jovetic and Steven N’Zonzi came close as Sevilla chased for a winner but Sporting held out and remain five points from safety.

Real Sociedad 1-1 Leganes

Leganes grabbed a valuable point in the Madrid minnows’ quest to win another season in the top division. Alexander Szymanowski gave the visitors a surprise lead on 30 minutes but Juanmi leveled to save Real’s blushes and take the hosts up to fifth.

Villarreal 2-3 Eibar

That was courtesy another loss for Villarreal following on from defeat to Las Palmas last time out. This time it was Eibar’s turn to sink the Yellow Submarine with goals from Pedro Leon, Kike and Takashu Inui.

Osasuna 1-2 Athletic Club

Athletic Club are just a point behind Villarreal and three ahead of Eibar after goals from Aritz Aduriz and Inaki Williams gave them an unassailable lead over bottom club Osasuna. Sergio Leon grabbed a consolation for the doomed hosts.

Espanyol 2-1 Real Betis

A late Jose Antonio Reyes winner completed a last gasp comeback for Espanyol having gone a goal down to a Ruben Castro penalty on 78 minutes. Javi Fuego hit the equaliser on 87 minutes before ex Arsenal man Reyes pounced on 90.

Celta Vigo 3-1 Las Palmas

We expected a home win in this last Week 29 game and Giuseppe Rossi delivered it single handed with a superb hat-trick. Pedro Bigas scored a consolation for the visitors who still haven’t got the hang of playing outside Gran Canaria.

Valencia 3-0 Deportivo La Coruna

Struggling Deportivo missed a penalty and had a goal ruled out; and that seemed to do the trick in awakening their sleepy hosts. Ezequiel Garay, an own goal and a late Joao Cancelo strike gave Valencia a first win in four.

Enjoy Live Betting on the big Madrid Derby!

No it’s not Real versus Atletico. Los Blancos are heading to the third Madrid club on Thursday…Leganes.

The home fans could only dream of football games like this, before their amazing promotion, and now their heroes are facing up to the best players in the world, on even terms.

In any David versus Goliath clash, Handicap Betting is the perfect way to even up the teams; but maybe Leganes won’t need that!

WEEK 30 WEDNESDAY:

Athletic Bilbao vs Espanyol

Espanyol benefited from Real Betis’ late collapse to stay ninth in the table while their Bilbao hosts had a comfortable away win at Osasuna. Athletic Club lost at home to Real Madrid last time, but won their previous five home games.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad

As a curtain raiser to the derby, the other Madrid club is aiming for a fifth consecutive league win in a run which has taken Antoine Griezmann and co third. Atletico’s star player is seeking his 15th goal of the la Liga season while strike partner Kevin Gameiro is on ten. Sociedad has gone three without a win and Atletico is at 1.90 to win with a -1.25 handicap.

Real Betis vs Villarreal

The Yellow Submarine have hit a sticky patch with back-to back defeats, but preceded that with a run of four consecutive away wins. Real Betis snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at Espanyol and may still be smarting enough for Villarreal to profit.

WEEK 30 THURSDAY:

Barcelona vs Sevilla

Barca kick off two hours before the leaders and they can heap a little more pressure on their rivals by beating Sevilla and taking the top spot. Jorge Sampaoli’s side is without a win in four in the league and were dumped out of the Champions League by Leicester. Barca are at 2.03 to win with a -2.00 handicap.

Alaves vs Osasuna

Alaves were unlucky to lose by three goals to Real Madrid at the weekend, matching their illustrious hosts for much of the game. Osasuna put up a decent show at home to Athletic Club but the bottom club are unlikely to add to their 11 points here.

Sporting Gijon vs Malaga

18th-placed Sporting will be hoping Granada can spring a surprise because a home win will haul them to within two points of out-of-sorts Malaga, sitting on 27 points alongside Depor. If Granada can do them a big favour, Sporting could actually have three teams within reach.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Granada

Deportivo were pulling nicely away from the drop zone but back to back defeats have got their fans looking nervously over their shoulders again. They can put their minds at rest by beating 19th-placed Granada. The visitors have lost their last six away.

Leganes vs Real Madrid

A capacity crowd in Leganes’ tiny stadium will roar their team on in the hope of creating a huge upset. Alexander Szymanowski scored in a draw at high flyers Real Sociedad at the weekend and you can get 4.60 on another draw here. Odds of 1.86 on Leganes to win with a +1.50 advantage suggest it may not be an easy night for Los Blancos.

WEEK 30 FRIDAY:

Eibar vs Las Palmas

Eibar can stay in the hunt for a Europa place if they follow up an impressive away win at Villarreal with another victory against Las Palmas. The visitors will be keen to shake off their reputation as poor travellers having just one draw to show from their last five trips before their Tuesday visit to Celta Vigo.

Valencia vs Celta Vigo

After a rather underwhelming first half of the season Valencia have come to, and had a convincing 3-0 win over Deportivo at the weekend. Celta Vigo have fallen off the Europa pace a little but have lost only one of their last five away games and will be up for a fight at the hostile Mestalla.

It’s all eyes on the capital

After a plethora of football games, goals, and sports betting, the race for La Liga continues this week.

And there’s only one place to start, irrespective of whether football betting is your favourite pursuit. That’s in the capital for the Madrid derby.

Never mind the fact Atletico are not in the title race. They are a side in form and would take great pleasure from throwing a spanner in their city rivals’ title bid.

After all, this is a repeat of last season’s Champions League final in which Atletico hearts were broken in a penalty shoot-out.

Following their narrow victory over Real Sociedad, manager Diego Simeone gave many of his players an extra day’s rest from training ahead of this clash.

Five wins in a row, with just one goal conceded, means they head to the northern part of Madrid in buoyant form.

Champions League success may remain their priority but even full-back Juanfran has admitted they are preparing for this encounter as if it’s a final.

The Rojiblancos, who may still be without Kevin Gamiero (tendinitis), are seeking a fourth straight win at the Bernabeu and know all the pressure is on the hosts.

Real, themselves, come into the match on the back of a superb run.

Indeed, their 3-0 victory at the Vicente Calderon in November – when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick – was arguably their finest performance of the season to date.

And in seeing off Leganes 4-2 in midweek, Zinedine Zidane was able to rest the likes of Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Toni Kroos.

Los Blancos have won their last six in all competitions and the reaction of James Rodriguez, who showed his frustration when substituted in midweek, shows the difficulty Zidane has in keeping all his players happy.

Yet that reaction may be exactly what he wants from his squad.

One thing’s guaranteed – whoever starts in this one will be only focused on victory and securing bragging rights in the city.

Elsewhere, second-placed Barcelona head to Malaga with their title dreams still alive, although the Catalans will be without both Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitic for the trip.

After a miserable month, fourth-placed Sevilla host Deportivo with club president Jose Castro backing manager Jorge Sampaoli, despite the recent downturn.

Fifth meets sixth when Villarreal host Athletic Bilbao, both boosting their Europa League hopes with midweek victories, courtesy of Adrian and Aritz Aduriz – barring a late collapse, they both should have those top six berths secured.

Espanyol host Alaves knowing their home form has been encouraging, while Alaves have been rocky at home, yet often a revelation on their travels.

Granada host an improving Valencia knowing time is running out if they are to beat the drop, while Eibar travel to Celta Vigo in your stereotypical late season mid-table match, aware victory will see them leapfrog opponents who may have an eye on their pending Europa League quarter-final.

If Osasuna are to pull off the greatest escape of all, they will need to follow up their midweek win at Alaves – their first since October 10 – with another Pamplona special against minnows Leganes who put up a spirited showing before going down 4-2 to Real in the week.

Las Palmas host Real Betis with Los Amarillos slipping into mid-table and pressure on the shoulders of home favourite Jese Rodriguez following his expectant return.

Betis need to make sure they don’t get dragged into a relegation scramble.

The final match of the weekend sees European chasing Real Sociedad welcome Sporting Gijon.

They were wounded by their defeat at home to Malaga but are just one win from making the relegation fight a real contest again.

Big Three deliver when the heat is really on

Barcelona and the two Madrid giants all won well in midweek to set up a grandstand finish to La Liga.

Los Blancos survived their derby clash with brave Leganes while Barcelona heaped misery on pretenders Sevilla. And Atletico Madrid is third after beating Real Sociedad, though not as easily as football betting pundits widely expected.

Leganes 2-4 Real Madrid
Few other than diehard Leganes fans will have rushed to the betting websites to bet online on a home win here. But the smallest club in the league pushed one of the biggest all the way. Fighting back from a three goal deficit as Alvaro Morata scored twice Leganes made it 2-3 at the break. A Martin Mantovani own goal settled Los Blancos’ nerves but Leganes still has a five point cushion to the drop.

Barcelona 3-0 Sevilla
Barca kicked off two hours earlier and briefly took top spot having beaten rapidly fading Sevilla. Luis Suarez opened the scoring with a spectacular finish before Messi struck twice to finish off the visitors before the break. Vitolo saw red in injury time to make it a miserable night for Jorge Sampaoli.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Real Sociedad
Defender Filipe Luis scored for the second time in as many games to decide a tight encounter and give Atletico a fifth win on the bounce. Diego Simeone’s men are in good shape and three points ahead of Sevilla, but Sociedad drop to seventh after a fourth winless game.

Real Betis 0-1 Villarreal
The Yellow Submarine moved up to take Sociedad’s place in fifth after a welcome return to winning ways. Adrian scored early in the second half to erase the memory of two consecutive defeats; but it was another blow for Real Betis who had lost to a late Espanyol goal at the weekend

Athletic Club 2-0 Espanyol
No such comeback for Espanyol this time as Athletic Club also leapfrogged Sociedad into sixth place, thanks to a first half double from prolific striker Aritz Aduriz. That’s six wins in the last seven home games for the Bilbao team.

Alaves 0-1 Osasuna
Osasuna sprung the surprise of the week by inflicting a second defeat on Alaves who were unlucky to lose by three goals to Real Madrid at the weekend. They certainly wouldn’t have expected another loss but substitute Alex Berenguer struck on 88 minutes to take the bottom club up to 14 points.

Deportivo La Coruna 0-0 Granada
Deportivo inched another point closer to safety, now six clear of the drop, after a goalless draw. But it could have been so much better had Celso Borges not missed a first half penalty. That’s the first point on the road for Granada in seven games.

Sporting Gijon 0-1 Malaga
18th placed Sporting missed a glorious chance to climb within two points of safety against a Malaga team which has been in dreadful form. But these things always happen don’t they? Sandro Ramirez struck in the first half to ruin Sporting’s night.

Eibar 3-1 Las Palmas
Eibar stay eighth and in touch of a Europa place, continuing a nice run of form with a comfortable win over Las Palmas. Bebe struck on 14 minutes and the lead was doubled when Aythami Artiles put through his own net before the break. Mauricio Lemos pulled one back on 62 but Adrian Gonzalez sealed the points four minutes later.

Valencia 3-2 Celta Vigo
Carlos Soler hit an 86th minute winner to settle this five goal thriller. Daniel Wass had crossed for Gustavo Cabral to head home in the 16th minute to put the visitors ahead; but goals from Daniel Parejo and Munir seemed to have given Valencia a nice home win until Iago Aspas converted an 80th minute penalty for Celta. Then Soler sent the Mestalla crowd wild.

Now this was made in Madrid

Was this the weekend which ultimately determined the destination of the 2016/17 La Liga title?

There are certain football games over the course of the season which seem decisive.

And while a late Antoine Griezmann equaliser for Atletico and city rivals Madrid seemed to give Barcelona refreshed title hopes, the Catalans’ 2-0 reverse at Malaga hours later now appears to have stocked the betting odds firmly in favour of Zinedine Zidane’s men.

At the other end, no measured sports betting fan could have predicted one of England’s greatest ever captains would get the job at Granada with weeks of the season remaining. Or could they?

Villarreal 3-1 Athletic Bilbao

It was the result the Yellow Submarine needed to strengthen their grip on fifth place.

They had to hold out for 16 minutes with 10 men but managed to move four points clear of their opponents.

It was a frustrating night for the visitors who hit the crossbar twice in the second half, both times through the ever-green Aritz Aduriz.

Espanyol 1-0 Alaves

Espanyol haven’t yet given up hope of securing a Europa League spot either.

Pablo Piatti’s 10th of the season sealed a deserved home win.

Alaves, of course, have the Copa del Rey Final to look forward to – should they lose, the seventh spot will be enough to seal a Europa League spot.

Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid

As first birthday presents go, this was up there with the best.

Antoine Griezmann dedicated his late equaliser to daughter Mia as she celebrated becoming one year-old.

It’s four seasons in a row now without defeat for Atletico in enemy territory at the Bernabeu which was largely frustrated as the home favourites missed the best opportunities.

Sevilla 4-2 Deportivo La Coruna

As the club bid farewell to its director of football for the past 17 years, Monchi, this was a fitting performance.

Three goals inside the opening nine minutes, including Stevan Jovetic’s first minute opener, set the scene for fourth placed Sevilla’s first win in seven.

Indeed, the Andalusians now trail Atletico by just a point and can still dream of a top three finish.

The speculation surrounding the future of manager Jorge Sampaoli, linked with the Argentina national job, may not help those efforts.

Malaga 2-0 Barcelona

Made in Malaga, masterminded in Madrid.

Certainly, former Real man Michel would have been lauded in the capital as he led the side he now coaches to this surprise win.

Frustrating for Barcelona who could have moved level with Real with a victory – and El Clasico still to come – yet now feel a big battle.

The dismissal of Neymar hardly helped their cause.

This also proved Barca’s fringe players, unlike Real’s, are not good enough to come in and cover.

Granada 1-3 Valencia

Three wins on the bounce for Valencia and two more goals for Simone Zaza – the club is about to turn his loan spell from Juventus into a permanent deal.

As Valencia move ever nearer mid-table respectability, this was the final straw for Granada who ended Lucas Alcaraz’s third tenure as coach.

Whether the former Arsenal and England skipper Tony Adams, with limited managerial experience, can pull off a survival miracle remains unlikely, even if he has been at the club in a director role since November and the appointment doesn’t shock all.

Celta Vigo 0-2 Eibar

How the minnows continue to defy their critics.

Kike and Pedro Leon scored the goals to boost Eibar hopes of a first ever European campaign.

The loss of the talented Giuseppe Rossi to injury was a big blow to the hosts.

Osasuna 2-1 Leganes

You wait months to get a win and then two come along at once!

A Sergio Leon double showed Osasuna’s new found confidence, even if it will surely come too late to save the rock bottom club.

Leganes still continue to look anxiously over their shoulders.

Las Palmas 4-1 Real Betis

Now, this was clinical.

How else can you explain the home side winning when they had fewer shots than their opponents?

A much needed Jese Rodriguez goal rounded off a good day for Los Amarillos.

Real Sociedad 3-1 Sporting Gijon

Just the tonic Sociedad needed after three defeats in four.

They’re back up to sixth, whereas the Asturian strugglers remain in trouble.

Their luck was summed up when Willian Jose’s early header was adjudged to have crossed the line, from which time they were always up against it.

Is it all crashing down for Barca’s Super Stars?

A week can be a long time in elite sport, particular if you have a shocker in two consecutive football games!

Seven days ago Barca fans were looking forward to a trip to Malaga expecting to pick up three points in La Liga, and as the betting websites’ favourites to win the Champions League. Now, after a shock defeat to Malaga and a thumping in Juventus it’s in danger of going pear-shaped. And domestically, that means the betting odds on Real Madrid winning the league title have plummeted.

WEEK 32 SATURDAY:

Athletic Club vs Las Palmas

Friday night specialists Las Palmas head to the mainland to Bilbao to take on Athletic Club. The hosts know a win will take them into the top six and a Europa place, until Saturday at least, and they are strong at home with Aritz Aduriz a constant threat on 12 goals. Both sides are free-scoring and a bet on over 1.25 first half goals will pay 1.99.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Malaga

Well, I don’t think any of us saw that coming but Malaga’s victory over Barcelona not only upset Luis Enrique, it also took Malaga up to 14th and relative comfort after back-to-back wins. Deportivo, on the other hand, is six points above the drop zone and certainly not safe.

Sporting Gijon vs Real Madrid

Saturday’s big matche take place in Gijon where the hosts will try to end a run of two consecutive defeats. Five points from safety they couldn’t have a much tougher prospect than the Los Blancos who have won their last five away. Real benefited from Barca’s shock defeat last week and will look to press the advantage.

WEEK 32 SUNDAY:

Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna

This looks like the banker of the weekend as bottom club Osasuna visits third-placed Atletico. Diego Simeone’s team have hit a rich vein of form, winning five then getting an impressive away draw at Real Madrid. The one chink of hope for the visitors is that they have achieved two of their three league wins in the last two games.

Barcelona vs Real Sociedad

Luis Enrique considered his side’s defeat to Malaga as being unfair but he should look to his star Neymar who was sent off for a second unnecessary red card and is unavailable this weekend. Sociedad sits in the last Europa place and will attempt to stun the wounded animal. With a +2.00 start the visitors are at 1.89 to get a result.

Leganes vs Espanyol

Leganes will be hoping he flops as Asier Garitano’s battling team are sitting in the coveted 17th place. With 18th placed Sporting Gijon facing Real Madrid, this is a chance for Leganes to extend the five point gap. Espanyol has not won away in five.

Valencia vs Sevilla

Sevilla’s title challenge have come spectacularly off the rails and they had their first win in six last week having dropped to fourth. Valencia, after a sluggish first half to the season, have finally woken up and won three on the bounce, scoring three in each. The home team, in 11th, is the slight favourite to win at 2.53.

WEEK 32 MONDAY:

Real Betis vs Eibar

Eibar are up to seventh after a run of three wins, while hosts Real Betis have lost the last three. As a benchmark, Las Palmas followed up a 3-1 defeat to Eibar with a 4-1 win over Betis; so with both teams available to win at 2.62, Eibar looks the better value to me.

Granada vs Celta Vigo

Former Arsenal and England defensive legend Tony Adams has landed in Granada as head coach and promises fans he’ll fight hard for a miracle escape from relegation. He probably needs a miracle, seven points from safety, but Celta Vigo has lost its last two so it’s not a bad start.

WEEK 32 TUESDAY:

Alaves vs Villarreal

Since reaching the Copa Del Rey final for the first time in its history, Alaves have stuttered in the league rather, losing the last three and dropping to 11th. After their own stutter, the Yellow Submarine have won their last two to get their Europa challenge back on track.

Last Minute Winner is so big for Los Blancos

Midfield star Isco scored in the 90th minute to grab three vital points for Real Madrid after Sporting Gijon gave the leaders the fright of their lives.

The dramatic win brings down the betting odds on La Liga returning to the capital, and with seven league football games to go, El Clasico could go a long way to deciding the outcome next week.

Sporting Gijon 2-3 Real Madrid

Football betting tips expected a rather easier ride for Zinedine Zidane’s stars at relegation-threatened Gijon. But the hosts went ahead twice before Real drew level for what looked to be the second league stalemate in a row. But then with the clock ticking down, Isco arrived on the edge of the box to fire his second of the game.

Barcelona 3-2 Real Sociedad

So Barca knew that anything less than a win would spell disaster. Lionel Messi looked to have taken the game away from Sociedad with a first-half double. He also put Paco Alcacer in for a third, but Sociedad pegged the hosts back twice through a Samuel Umtiti own goal and Xabi Prieto. 3-2 at the break and that’s how it stayed.

Atletico Madrid 3-0 Osasuna

Diego Simeone’s Atletico stay third after a comfortable win over bottom club Osasuna. Yannick Carrasco scored either side of half-time before Filipe Luis made the points safe on the hour. It’s Leicester City up next for Atletico; Segunda Division for Osasuna.

Valencia 0-0 Sevilla

It’s only one win in seven now for Sevilla but fourth place still looks reasonably safe for Jorge Sampaoli. It’s a good point for Valencia though, having now taken ten points from four games to settle nicely in mid-table.

Alaves 2-1 Villarreal

The Yellow Submarine sank as Alaves scored twice before the break. Ibai Gomez hit a beautiful strike and Rodrigo Ely headed a second. Cedric Bakambu pulled one back on 70 minutes and should have equalised at the death.

Athletic Club 5-1 Las Palmas

Las Palmas aren’t the best travellers in the league and so it proved on Saturday as Athletic Club kept their Europa charge on track, moving into sixth place after hammering the Canary Islanders. Iker Muniain and the evergreen Aritz Aduriz helped themselves to a couple each.

Real Betis 2-0 Eibar

Eibar’s Europa aspirations took a bash though, losing to Real Betis, a result which took the hosts up to 14th. Jonas Martin headed Betis in front in only the second minute, but they had to wait until the 89th minute before Dani Ceballos broke away to make the points safe.

Leganes 0-1 Espanyol

Isco’s last-minute winner against Gijon was good news for 17th-placed Leganes who suffered a similar fate when Leo Baptistao brilliantly lobbed Espanyol’s injury-time winner. It’s a third win in four for the visitors, while Leganes still have a five-point cushion… thanks to Los Blancos.

Granada 0-3 Celta Vigo

There was no ‘new manager bounce’ for Granada as Tony Adams watched his side dismantled by Celta Vigo. Jozabed gave the visitors a half-time lead before Marcelo Diaz and Claudio Beauvue left Granada deep in the relegation mire.

Deportivo La Coruna 2-0 Malaga

Deportivo are surely safe now, nine points above the drop, after Malaga failed to follow up a win over Barcelona with another here. After a goalless first half, Joselu headed Depor in front and Pedro Mosquera made the points safe on 67 minutes.

El Clasico is just perfect for Football Betting!

Real Madrid vs Barcelona

This is the one. Of all the epic football games worldwide nothing quite compares with El Clasico, Los Blancos versus Barca; it simply has everything.

And this clash has more riding on it than most as the games are running out on another great season. Barca are three points behind leaders Real Madrid with a vastly superior goal difference, but the hosts have a game in hand. Put simply, it’s a must win for Luis Enrique’s stars; and at handicap betting odds of 3.20, it’s a big task.

Real Madrid are favourites to win at 2.17 and 3.35 the draw. But every result is on when the giants of Spanish football meet.

So what does history tell us? Of the 173 encounters between the two since 1929, Los Blancos are out on top, winning 72 to Barcelona’s 68. But Barca have had the upper hand over the last four decades, and it’s been honours even in the last five matches with two wins apiece.

Another thing we can count on is goals. Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have shared 53 league goals for Barcelona this season as they routinely obliterate the opposition. Cristiano Ronaldo has 19 for the hosts, with Alvaro Morata and Isco weighing in with 20 between them.

El Clasicos have yielded a whopping 555 goals since 1929 at 3.2 a game, and fewer than one in four games featuring Barca or Los Blancos in La Liga this season have featured under 2.5 goals. When they meet, the goal count is invariably higher and over 3.5 goals is available at 2.07.

This is what Monday football was made for!

Mobile Betting Thrills from Top to Bottom in Spain

Six matches to go and we’re at the business end of the La Liga season. It’s El Clasico weekend coming up, of course, and then there are a host of other massive football games to whet the appetite.

Nerves will be shredded across the land by Monday as, with European ambitions and survival at stake, time is fast running out.

WEEK 33 FRIDAY:

Sevilla vs Granada

It could get messy for relegation-threatened Granada in Seville on Saturday morning. The hosts are at betting odds of 1.86 to win with a -2.00 handicap, and top scorer Wissam Ben Yedder will be licking his lips. Tony Adams’ Granada were brushed aside 3-0 by Celta Vigo in his first match, and Sevilla will be hungry to win again.

Malaga vs Valencia

Two wins in April, one against Barca, have made Malaga safe in 15th. Valencia have been comfortable for some time after a run of three wins and a draw, that point against Sevilla last time out. Another draw here, maybe?

Villarreal vs Leganes

It’s squeaky-bum time for 17th-placed Leganes, having accumulated enough points to give themselves a great chance of survival; three defeats on the bounce haven’t helped, though. Villarreal are still in fifth despite defeat to Alaves on Tuesday.

WEEK 33 SUNDAY:

Celta Vigo vs Real Betis

Sixteen-goal Iago Aspas has been the star of Celta Vigo’s season so far, allowing the tenth-placed hosts to play with freedom. Real Betis have lost three away games on the bounce, the last a 4-1 thumping in Las Palmas; they did beat Eibar at the weekend, however.

Espanyol vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico have taken advantage of Sevilla’s recent malaise to move into third place and are at 1.91 to win with a -0.75 handicap in Barcelona. The Catalans are up to ninth after back-to-back 1-0 wins, and Gerard Moreno is a constant threat on 11 goals. It’s a good test for Diego Simeone’s boys after midweek Champions League exploits.

Real Sociedad vs Deportivo La Coruna

After flirting seriously with the unthinkable prospect of relegation for most of the season, Depor settled their fans’ nerves with a 2-0 win over Malaga last week and should be safe. With just one win in six, Real have dropped to seventh and badly need a victory to keep their Europa dreams alive.

Osasuna vs Sporting Gijon

Defeat for Leganes could see their five-point cushion seriously eroded as 20th plays 18th. Osasuna are still just about in the hunt after two wins in the last three, while Gijon have failed to close the gap on 17th with their own three consecutive losses. Looks like a draw at 3.20 could be on the cards.

WEEK 33 MONDAY:

Las Palmas vs Alaves

You know what to expect with Las Palmas: they win at home and lose away. This is true certainly in the last six games and indeed for most of the season. Copa finalists Alaves seem to have all their attention on that glittering prize but did halt a three-match losing streak by beating Villarreal on Tuesday.

WEEK 33 TUESDAY:

Eibar vs Athletic Club

And what a cracking game to finish the weekend! Eighth-placed Eibar host sixth-placed Atheltic Club, both with realistic hopes of European football. A home win would see the hosts leapfrog their visitors. Both have won three of the last four and will be well up for the battle.

Brilliant El Clasico is simply the Best for live betting Fans

Real Madrid 2-3 Barcelona

Lionel Messi scored a last-minute winner to blow La Liga wide open in an El Clasico which will live long in the memory.

This was one of the best football games I’ve seen for quite some time, with two of the finest teams in the world playing with verve and dynamism from start to finish.

At a packed and passionate Bernabeu, the players put on a magnificent show, not least the two keepers. The win lifts Barca to the top as Messi hit his 500th goal, and betting odds on the title returning to the Camp Nou plummeted.

In a first half of outstanding football, Brazilian midfielder Casemiro put Real ahead on 28 minutes after Marcelo teed up Sergio Ramos; and when the skipper’s shot came back off the post Casemiro was on the spot to score.

But the lead lasted just five minutes before Lionel Messi turned on the style, accepting a ball from Ivan Rakitic before jinking past two defenders and firing low to beat Real keeper Keylor Navas.

Both keepers were tested early in the second half as Karim Benzema thought he’d scored for Real, only to be denied by the boot of Ter Stegen; and Gerard Pique tested Navas with a bullet header. In a breathtaking passage of play, Cristiano Ronaldo stunned the stadium when he missed a sitter on 66 minutes and a minute later Luis Suarez almost volleyed Barca in front.

Then Ivan Rakitic hit a 20-yard beauty on 72 minutes, prompting Coach Luis Enrique to leap off the bench. Ronaldo had another clear chance to level but Ter Stegen was on hand again.

Sergio Ramos lost his head and copped a straight red after going in two-footed on Lionel Messi. And then Navas denied Pique again with a brilliant save before James Rodriguez fired home to seemingly give the ten men of Madrid a crucial point.

But Messi was on the spot with almost the last kick of the game to fire the winner superbly after another great Barca move.

Lionel Messi is simply the best.

Is there time for another sports betting twist?

You better believe it! Certainly, the past weekend told us that twists and turns in football games in this stretch of La Liga can still happen and many of the betting odds suggest nothing is yet certain at either end of the table.

WEEK 34 WEDNESDAY:

Sporting Gijon vs Espanyol

The message for the home side is clear. Win against their mid-table opponents and the pressure is all on Leganes. Failure to collect three points, following a 2-2 draw at bottom club Osasuna, and Sporting’s race could be almost run. The spirited fightback they showed in that game suggests they can do it.

Granada vs Malaga

If Tony Adams is to pull off the miracle which was obviously required when he was appointed a week and a half ago, the second from bottom club need to win this one. Winless and goalless in his two games in charge, they only mustered two shots on target in their 2-0 defeat at Sevilla. Malaga, in contrast, were able to end Valencia’s mini run of form.

Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal

Third versus fifth and a chance of revenge for Diego Simeone’s men. Their 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Yellow Submarine in December was arguably their lowest point of the campaign. Villarreal certainly had luck on their side at the weekend though, when a clear Cedric Bakambu handball was allowed to stand and they saw off Leganes.

WEEK 34 THURSDAY:

Barcelona vs Osasuna

This is literally top versus bottom. Lionel Messi’s 500th goal for Barcelona – a last gasp winner at the Bernabeu - could well be his favourite if it means his side goes on to retain the title. It’s still in Real’s hands but the euphoric Barcelona reaction to the winning goal will surely be carried over into this encounter.

Leganes vs Las Palmas

Leganes’ cruel defeat at Villarreal means they can’t afford a fifth straight loss. Las Palmas may be accommodating visitors just when they need it the most. Could the Gran Canaria side find it difficult to be fully motivated such is their mid-table comfort?

Valencia vs Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad face a tricky test at Valencia as they look to consolidate sixth spot. That will be enough to qualify for the Europa League. Indeed, they will qualify from seventh spot if Barcelona win the Copa del Rey but they won’t want to risk that against Valencia, themselves keen to bounce back after their first defeat in five games.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Real Madrid

They may have won only one of their last six games but Pepe Mel will have his players fired up for this one. Real’s title credentials should certainly be tested at the Riazor. With skipper Sergio Ramos suspended, Madrid certainly can’t afford a defeat against the side which defeated Barcelona last month.

WEEK 34 FRIDAY:

Alaves vs Eibar

It’s Basque Country derby time. King’s Cup finalists Alaves host Eibar with one eye on next month’s Copa del Rey final. Eibar have one eye on a Europa League spot but must win to keep alive their chances.

Sevilla vs Celta Vigo

This time last season, Sevilla’s league form took a slight downturn as players focused on the Europa League they eventually won. Now Celta Vigo are arguably having the same issues. Their players can’t afford to be sluggish in Sevilla where uncertainty continues to surround the future of coach Jorge Sampaoli.

Athletic Bilbao vs Real Betis

After winning at Celta, the Andalusians will relish their trip to Bilbao. Bilbao have little turnaround time following their clash with Eibar but know they need to keep winning to retain their Europa League qualification hopes. Betis are safe but can have a big say who stays up in the month ahead.

Live Betting Fun is Disaster for brave Leganes

Two goals in injury time at Villarreal were enough to send betting odds flying backwards and forwards, as home fans celebrated a narrow win.

Monday’s El Clasico had unbelievable drama, but there was plenty of action, ecstasy and heartbreak in the other nine football games in this weekend’s La Liga.

Villarreal 2-1 Leganes

No more so than in Castellon where it was heartbreak for Leganes after they thought they’d grabbed a last-minute point when Guerrero slotted home calmly to ease the relegations worries of the Madrid side. Cedric Bakambu had struck on 68 minutes to put the Yellow Submarine in charge but, after the late equaliser, the home fans were soon erupting again when Bakambu smashed home the winner at the death.

Espanyol 0-1 Atletico Madrid

Who else but Antoine Griezmann was on the spot to take three points, after a tough tussle with Espanyol, which keep Diego Simeone’s team in third. The in-form Catalans were right in the game until the 73rd minute when Griezmann fired into the bottom corner from a tight angle.

Sevilla 2-0 Granada

More gloom for Granada boss Tony Adams as Sevilla stay three points behind Atletico in fourth after a comfortable 2-0 win. A goal in each half by midfield ace Ganso did the damage. Maybe Adams should have a chat with his old manager Arsene Wenger to see how he copes…

Real Sociedad 1-0 Deportivo La Coruna

Willian Jose headed home the only goal of the game, and his 11th goal of the season, after good work from Yuri Berchiche, to give Sociedad a win which keeps their Europa League hopes alive. Depor are pretty much safe, eight points above the drop.

Eibar 0-1 Athletic Club

Raul Garcia stunned the Tuesday crowd at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua with a 94th minute goal, smashed into the roof of the net. Eibar came into the game with three wins in four, and hoping to leapfrog the visitors into sixth, but weren’t helped when Gonzalo Escalante saw red for a clumsy foul on 56 minutes.

Celta Vigo 0-1 Real Betis

Celta Vigo seem to be concentrating all efforts on the Europa League, resting players again, and paid the price with Real Betis the beneficiaries at the Balaidos. Serbian Darko Brasanac scored with a diving header early in the second half and Real held on with some ease.

Las Palmas 1-1 Alaves

There was no holiday mood in Las Palmas where the home team was robbed and then reduced to ten men. Kevin-Prince Boateng put the hosts in front before the break, but Ibai Gomez hit back for Alaves on 61, with Deyverson obstructing the keeper in a clearly offside position. The errant ref made matters worse, sending Las Palmas’ Marko Livaja off with minutes remaining.

Malaga 2-0 Valencia

Two goals in five minutes gave Malaga their third win in April, and this one at La Rosaleda was pretty comfortable. Recio headed home a Javier Ontiveros cross on 36 minutes before Sandro Ramirez added a second soon after.

Osasuna 2-2 Sporting Gijon

A fantastic comeback by Sporting grabbed a late draw at Osasuna, but a point isn’t really much use for either of these two bottom-three clubs. The hosts went two ahead through a Jorge Mere own goal and a Kenan Kodro strike, but Roberto Canella and Carlos Castro struck two minutes apart to seize a point for Sporting.

Sunday’s going to be a big Day in La Liga

Barca’s dramatic win last week in El Clasico has blown the title race wide open in Spain, but another huge test comes for Luis Enrique’s boys in the Barcelona derby.

Betting websites had a start when Lionel Messi scored his late dramatic winner in the Camp Nou, and betting odds on a Barca title were quickly cut. But it will all mean nothing if they can’t beat their near-neighbours this weekend.

WEEK 35 SATURDAY:

Villarreal vs Sporting Gijon

The Yellow Submarine should open the weekend with a victory, and SBOBET’s handicap betting offers odds of 2.21 on a home win with a -1.50 handicap. Fran Escriba’s team is still just about in the Champions League hunt, but defeat could mean disaster for 18th-placed Sporting, without a win in six.

Real Madrid vs Valencia

Los Blancos responded to defeat to Barca by thumping Deportivo 2-6. Their mood is likely to be as unforgiving against a Valencia side which has had a good enough run to get safe but has a leaky defence: they’ve conceded 59 goals in the league so far. It could be 65 by Sunday!

Real Sociedad vs Granada

I don’t expect an upset at the Anoeta Stadium when Real Sociedad take on Tony Adams’ Granada, other than maybe for Adams himself! The visitors are on a run of four consecutive defeats which leaves them perilously close to the trap door in 19th place, while Sociedad need a win to keep their Europa goal in sight.

WEEK 35 SUNDAY:

Espanyol vs Barcelona

At odds of 1.19 to win or 1.88 with a -2.00 handicap, a flop at the RCDE Stadium would be a shock indeed for Barca. But the passion of derbies can throw up some odd results, and Espanyol are due some fun after defeats in the last four. Gerard Moreno scores most for Espanyol with 12; but then Messi has 33, so maybe not!

Las Palmas vs Atletico Madrid

Despite defeat to Villarreal in midweek, Atletico are pretty much safe in third place and are eight points above the Yellow Submarine in fifth. But Gran Canaria isn’t an easy place to go to, where Las Palmas are a different side to the one which lost to Leganes on Thursday.

Real Betis vs Alaves

Victories over Celta Vigo and Eibar have eased any dwindling relegation worries at Real Betis, and the home fans will fancy making it three out of three against an Alaves side which has stuttered since qualifying for the Copa del Rey final.

Osasuna vs Deportivo La Coruna

Bottom club Osasuna were relegated by Leganes’ midweek win, so they can now play with freedom, and that could go one of two ways. Deportivo are almost safe, but a couple of defeats mean the visitors still need a point or two. They should get them here.

WEEK 35 MONDAY:

Eibar vs Leganes

What a win for Leganes, thumping Las Palmas 3-0 with a brace from Luciano Neves to put Los Blancos’ neighbours six points clear of the drop with four games to go. Eibar’s hopes of Europe have all but disappeared with back-to-back defeats, so they could be there for the taking.

Celta Vigo vs Athletic Club

Celta Vigo are putting all their eggs in the Europa League basket with a genuine chance of winning this year’s competition to qualify for Europe. While Celta have been resting players en masse, there’s no such distraction for Athletic Club, a club on their own hunt for Europe with four wins in five.

WEEK 35 TUESDAY:

Malaga vs Sevilla

Any slip-ups in Malaga could reduce Sevilla’s lead over fifth place to two or three points, and that would be a real disappointment for Jorge Sampaoli, who had his side challenging at the top not so long ago. Malaga have won four out of five, so this could be a cracking game to finish the weekend.

The time is up for the bottom three

For surely these football games were decisive for those at the foot of the table.

One club is now down, and the betting odds are stacked against the other two strugglers staying in La Liga.

Sports betting is less clear at the top, though, as the race looks set to go to the wire, both for the title and that all-important third place and the chance to avoid a Champions League qualifier next season.

Sporting Gijon 1-1 Espanyol

Sporting had to win to put the pressure on Leganes.

That they didn’t manage to achieve it, once Gerard Moreno equalised Victor Rodriguez’s goal, will probably be one missed opportunity too many.

It’s now likely Gijon will be playing in the Segunda Division next season.

Granada 0-2 Malaga

Seven points adrift with four games remaining, Granada will need more than Tony Adams (inspirational as a player) to pull off the miracle.

They remain pointless and goalless in his three games in charge after Sandro scored twice.

The hosts pushed forward but couldn’t break down a stubborn Malaga.

Atletico Madrid 0-1 Villarreal

The hosts dominated, the visitors dug in and won.

With visiting goalkeeper Andres Fernandez in inspired form, there was time for Roberto Soriano to deliver the sucker-punch eight minutes from time.

It keeps the race for third place alive and completes a memorable double for the Yellow Submarine as Atletico gear up for the Champions League.

Barcelona 7-1 Osasuna

Buoyed by their last-gasp victory in El Clasico, this scoreline reflected a top versus bottom clash.

Lionel Messi’s 501st and 502nd goals for Barcelona helped – it also took his tally to 49 in 48 matches this season.

This rout merely pushed Osasuna closer to the drop, a fate that would be confirmed within a few hours.

Leganes 3-0 Las Palmas

This result was the final nail in the Osasuna coffin.

Las Palmas were ideal opponents for Leganes as they hit three in six second-half minutes to seal the victory.

Las Palmas could not even muster a shot on target.

Valencia 2-3 Real Sociedad

It was a tricky test overcome as Real Sociedad moved back up into sixth spot (for 24 hours) and kept alive their Europa League qualification hopes.

A first-minute own goal set them on their way and they withheld a spirited fightback in the Mestalla.

There may have been five goals, but virtually every shot on target resulted in the net bulging - Sociedad prevailed, despite having just two shots on target.

Deportivo La Coruna 2-6 Real Madrid

That’s how to respond to defeat in El Clasico.

This title race is still in Real’s hands, thanks to an emphatic victory.

Alvaro Morata, who opened the scoring inside 54 seconds, is no bad replacement when Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are missing.

He and James Rodriguez were among the fringe stars to shine in this romp at the Riazor.

Alaves 0-0 Eibar

A stalemate in the Basque Country derby.

And there’s no doubt Eibar will be the more satisfied after holding next month’s Copa del Rey finalists, despite playing more than an hour with 10 men.

Goalkeeper Asier Riesgo’s dismissal midway through the first half gave Alaves a clear advantage, but Eibar kept them at bay.

Sevilla 2-1 Celta Vigo

The battle for third place is as close as it can be.

Sevilla are back level on points with Atletico after seeing off spirited Celta.

Pablo Hernandez’s second yellow card 11 minutes after the re-start damaged their hopes and Wissam ben Yedder guided home the winner 11 minutes from time.

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli said pre-match that he wanted his side to finish in the position they have been most of the season. They have a good chance.

Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Real Betis

Two goals in seven minutes early in the second half turned this one in Bilbao’s favour.

The ever-green Aritz Aduriz fired home a penalty before Iker Muniain doubled the advantage.

Betis, fresh from success at Celta Vigo, were beaten – despite Ruben Castro pulling one back almost immediately - and Bilbao had boosted their Europa League qualification hopes and were back in sixth.

Live Betting Drama at the Bernabeu is Delight for Los Blancos

A late Marcelo winner was enough to keep Real Madrid in charge of La Liga while Barcelona keep up the pressure and still hold the top spot.

But Los Blancos have that crucial game in hand and are the betting websites’ favourites to lift the title. At the other end of the table, Tony Adams’ Granada were relegated.

Real Madrid 2-1 Valencia

Mobile betting fans needed nerves of steel as Marcelo won the points on 86 minutes after Daniel Parejo looked to have given Valencia an unlikely draw. Cristiano Ronaldo had headed the hosts in front before Parejo’s brilliant 82nd-minute free kick gave the home fans the jitters.

Espanyol 0-3 Barcelona

Barca reclaimed top spot with a resounding win to keep Los Blancos on their toes. Luis Suarez latched onto a poor back pass to score on 50 minutes before Ivan Rakitic made it two. Another defensive slip up let Suarez in for his second to give Barcelona a comfortable night.

Real Sociedad 2-1 Granada

So it’s curtains for Granada after Tony Adams’ fourth defeat in his four matches in charge. Carlos Vela and Juanmi did the damage for Sociedad while Adrian Ramos briefly gave the visitors hope with a well-placed header. To be fair to Adams, Granada were just as bad before he arrived!

Las Palmas 0-5 Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone’s Atletico were in rampant mood, smashing Las Palmas for five while the usually confident hosts went down to ten men. Star of the show was Kevin Gameiro with a first-half brace, and the win cements Atletico in third place; ideal preparation for the Madrid Champions League clash this week.

Malaga 4-2 Sevilla

Malaga saw off fourth-placed Sevilla in an entertaining clash. The visitors’ Franco Vazquez scored either side of half-time as did Malaga, through Pablo Fornals with a first-half screamer, and Sandro Ramirez. Diego Llorente gave the hosts a 3-2 lead with a deft header before Juankar made the points safe on 89 minutes.

Villarreal 3-1 Sporting Gijon

The Yellow Submarine stay in the Europa hunt after consigning Sporting to a seventh consecutive winless game. Cedric Bakambu did the damage with a brace, and the defeat leaves Sporting six points from safety with three games left.

Celta Vigo 0-3 Athletic Club

Celta Vigo continue to protect its players in the run up to the Europa League tie with Manchester United and lost again to sixth-placed Athletic Club. Raul Garcia scored either side of half-time before Mikel Rico wrapped up the points with a late third.

Eibar 2-0 Leganes

Two goals in five second-half minutes gave Eibar a win to keep them in eighth. Kike Garcia and Sergi Enrich both struck soon after the hour. Leganes tried in vain to get back in the game, but six points above the drop is agonisingly close to safety and that would be some achievement.

Real Betis 1-4 Alaves

A second-half blitz by Copa finalists Alaves turned this match on its head after Ruben Pardo had fired the hosts in front. Three goals in ten minutes from Nenad Krsticic, Ruben Sobrino and Christian Santos put Alaves firmly in charge before Aleksandar Katai added a last-minute fourth.

Osasuna 2-2 Deportivo La Coruna

Relegated Osasuna can at least play with freedom now and shared the spoils with Deportivo in an entertaining tussle. Jhon Mondragon gave the hosts an early lead before Guilherme dos Santos scored twice to put Depor in charge. A Juanfran own goal gave the home fans a rare cheer.

One moment can make all the difference

These are football games where one slip or one inspirational moment can be the difference which determines nine month’s work.

The difference between a title or runners-up spot, the difference between European qualification and pure domestic duties, the difference between staying in La Liga and contemplating life in the Segunda Division.

Sports betting fans have much to consider.

WEEK 36 SATURDAY:

Sevilla vs Real Sociedad

Just when it seemed the betting odds had swung back in Sevilla’s favour for a top three finish, so Jorge Sampaoli’s side went down to Malaga.

Whether the announcement of Sampaoli’s departure to manage the Argentine national side had an impact, who knows?

Sociedad will look forward to the test as the San Sebastianites are in seventh place and with a good chance of Europa League qualification.

Sporting Gijon vs Las Palmas

Last chance saloon for Sporting.

Realistically, a defeat will send them down and anything other than a victory means their survival chances will remain slim.

Las Palmas could be ideal opponents with nothing to play for at either end of the table.

Atletico Madrid vs Eibar

The Colchoneros will be hurting, make no mistake.

Their defeat against city rivals Real in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final means they are almost guaranteed to end the season empty-handed.

Diego Simeone will be determined they see off the success story that has been Eibar to preserve third spot.

WEEK 36 SUNDAY:

Barcelona vs Villarreal

The task for Barcelona is a simple one: win every game and hope Real slip up.

The leaders face fifth-placed visitors who held Barca earlier in the campaign and have also a league double over Atletico to their credit.

Luis Enrique has given some of his star names an extra day off this week in readiness for the clash.

Granada vs Real Madrid

If this was a boxing bout, the referee would probably be reluctant to ring the bell.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently unstoppable as Zinedine Zidane goes in search of a La Liga and Champions League double.

Granada are already relegated, have a series of injuries and are nearing the end of a campaign in which they have had four managers and used 33 different players.

Alaves vs Athletic Bilbao

Both these clubs enjoyed comprehensive away wins last time out.

Copa del Rey finalists Alaves blitzed Real Betis in a second-half spell which featured 10 goals in three second-half minutes.

Bilbao enjoyed a fourth straight win against a largely reserve Celta Vigo side to maintain sixth spot.

Valencia vs Osasuna

Osasuna may be down but it didn’t prevent them playing for pride last weekend.

A 2-2 draw with Deportivo La Coruna proved that.

Thirteenth-placed Valencia gave Madrid a scare last time out and will hope to put a rare smile on faces in the penultimate home match of what has been a largely miserable campaign.

WEEK 36 MONDAY:

Deportivo La Coruna vs Espanyol

If ever a fixture epitomised the end of the season ‘dead rubber’ this is it.

Both sides really have nothing to play for and that doesn’t change during the final few weeks.

The hosts mathematically need a point to make sure they’re not sucked into the bottom three.

Malaga vs Celta Vigo

After their exciting 4-2 win over Sevilla, what chance of back-to-back home triumphs for Malaga?

A victory would be their sixth win in seven and ensure they leapfrog their opponents.

Sandwiched between a two-legged Europa League semi-final with Manchester United, expect a second-string Celta outfit in this one.

WEEK 36 TUESDAY:

Leganes vs Real Betis

The ideal chance for Leganes to get home and hosed.

They remain haunted by the threat of relegation, yet know their fate is in their hands.

Betis are stumbling towards the finish line.rent players.

35 Goals in 36 Football Games…now that’s special!

Lionel Messi scored another two goals for Barcelona against Villarreal to keep the Catalans at the top of La Liga on goal difference and make the Argentine wizard a sure bet for Europe’s Golden Shoe.

Betting odds say the title should still head to Real Madrid as Los Blancos also won and still have a game in hand on Barca, but Messi is surely the player of the season.

With both of the Spanish giants winning well with four goals apiece, Asian Handicap Betting was the way for fans to join in the fun of winning.

Barcelona 4-1 Villarreal

Two goals against Villarreal have taken Messi four ahead of Sporting Lisbon’s Bas Dost in the race for Europe’s top scorer, and they were pivotal in a comfortable home win. Neymar and Luis Suarez were also on target as Cedric Bakambu put the Yellow Submarine on the score sheet.

Granada 0-4 Real Madrid

James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata helped themselves to a brace each as Los Blancos stayed in charge of the title race with a convincing win. For UK football fans, Tony Adams is beginning to make Gary Neville’s stint as a La Liga boss look like a roaring success!

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Eibar

Diego Simeone knows what he’s doing and can look forward to another tilt at the Champions League next year, if he stays at Atletico, after a tight win over Eibar. Diego Godin set up Saul Niguez to score the winner on 69 minutes before getting himself sent off in injury time.

Sevilla 1-1 Real Sociedad

Sevilla have all but confirmed a Champions League spot too after being held to a draw by Real Sociedad. Pablo Sarabia had put the hosts in front, but Carlos Vela equalised for the visitors to keep their own Europa League ambitions alive.

Alaves 1-0 Athletic Club

A second-half strike by Theo Hernandez consigned the Bilbao men to defeat and put doubt in their hopes of a Europa place. They are sixth, ahead of Sociedad on goal difference, while Alaves are tenth.

Sporting Gijon 1-0 Las Palmas

A 67th-minute strike by Carlos Carmona gave Sporting a vital three points in a nervy encounter against Las Palmas. The win dragged the Gijon strugglers to within three points of safety prior to 17th-placed Leganes’ home game on Tuesday.

Leganes 4-0 Real Betis

But then what a response from little Leganes! Alexander Szymanowski scored twice as the home side destroyed Real Betis. But the pick of the goals came from Gabriel who hit a peach from all of 45 yards to lift the Madrid minnows six points from the drop and so, so close to survival.

Deportivo La Coruna 1-2 Espanyol

So Deportivo still aren't safe, now behind Leganes five above the drop with two games to play following a home disappointment against Espanyol. The visitors had it pretty much wrapped up by half-time with goals from Leo Baptistao and Gerard Moreno.

Malaga 3-0 Celta Vigo

Resting players for the Europa League hasn’t exactly worked for Celta Vigo. They not only need to overturn a first-leg deficit against Manchester United, but defeat to Malaga was Celta’s fifth defeat in a row. Javier Ontiveros, Recio and Sandro Ramirez were the latest beneficiaries of Celta’s distractions.

Valencia 4-1 Osasuna

Relegated (some time ago) Osasuna were the perfect opponents for a Valencia side on a run of three consecutive defeats. Ezequiel Garay scored a first-half brace, and the lead was doubled by Simone Zaza and Rodrigo Moreno before Miguel Olavide grabbed a consolation.

This is the big weekend and Sevilla have the Key

It’s now or never for Barcelona, and Luis Enrique’s men need a big helping hand from Sevilla if they are to stand any chance of lifting the domestic title once again.

With 36 football games gone and two to play, three in Real Madrid’s case, there is no margin for error. The betting odds are in Los Blancos’ favour with that extra game, but Barca will do their utmost to send shocks through the mobile betting market, as they are well capable of doing.

WEEK 37 SATURDAY:

Espanyol vs Valencia

We start with Valencia heading to Barcelona to take on ninth-placed Espanyol in a game the home side will expect to win at attractive odds of 2.43. Valencia lost five from six away from home, and 13-goal Gerard Moreno is in fine form for the hosts.

WEEK 37 SUNDAY:

Osasuna vs Granada

A basement battle is on Sunday when Osasuna host Granada. Tony Adams has a 100 percent record as Granada coach... unfortunately it’s 100 percent defeats! And that has taken Granada down. Can he break his duck against the only team to beat Granada to the drop? If he loses, Osasuna will rise to 19th.

Alaves vs Celta Vigo

The Copa del Rey finalists play the Europa League semi-finalists, and cup matters certainly seem to have preoccupied Celta more so. Alaves got their act together by taking 11 points from the last five while Celta has lost their last four.

WEEK 37 MONDAY:

Las Palmas vs Barcelona

Barca are doing their bit in the chase in winning the last four, including the stunning El Clasico win to peg the favourites back. Las Palmas enjoyed a good season at home, but three consecutive defeats saw the Gran Canarians drop to 14th and their season fizzling out. They may well need the +3.00 handicap at odds of 1.97 to win anything for their fans on Monday.

Real Madrid vs Sevilla

So Barcelona will rely on fourth-placed Sevilla to keep them in the hunt. Sevilla need a point to guarantee a Champions League spot and Jorge Sampaoli would dearly like to make his mark on the title race, having been in it for the first half of the season. Los Blancos negotiated a tough Champions League semi-final with Atletico in midweek which may help the visitors.

Real Betis vs Atletico Madrid

Atleti gave Real a scare, going 2-0 up in the cup match and winning 2-1 on the night. Diego Simeone’s team is already lined up for Champions League again next season. It’s not such a happy time at Real Betis though; they’ve sacked manager Victor Sanchez with two games to go. They could have waited!

Villarreal vs Deportivo La Coruna

The Yellow Submarine are fifth and top of a group of three teams separated by a single point as they jostle for Europa League qualification. Villarreal won their last three home games, while Depor are without a win in four and still not mathematically safe.

Real Sociedad vs Malaga

Sociedad are a point behind Villarreal and will welcome 11th-placed Malaga for their last match of the season at the Anoeta. Both teams are in great form, with Sociedad taking ten points from the last four. Meanwhile, Malaga won all of their games, scoring 11 goals and spearheaded by 14-goal Sandro Ramirez.

Athletic Bilbao vs Leganes

Athletic Club are in the mix too, level on points with Sociedad and with four wins in the last five. Leganes are within a whisker of surviving and that will be an amazing feat for Asier Garitano’s men, who have won two from the last three when it really matters.

Eibar vs Sporting Gijon

If Leganes gets a point, 18th-placed Sporting Gijon won’t catch the Madrid club and will have their sights set on Deportivo. Either way, Sporting need to win their last two games and eighth-placed Eibar is a tough place to start.

La Liga’s just right for Asian Handicap Betting

Real Madrid and Barcelona both won well this weekend as Los Blancos home in on a La Liga and Champions League double, while the Catalans try to stop them.

Zinedine Zidane’s Real crucially have two league football games to play and needs just four points, but Barca are pushing them all the way.

Las Palmas 1-4 Barcelona

Neymar netted his fourth hat-trick in Barca colours as the league leaders thrashed Las Palmas; and when they’re in this mood, football betting fans look for the handicap bets – -3.50 would have worked here! But matters are out of Barca’s hands and they must hope that Real slip up.

Real Madrid 4-1 Sevilla

When Sevilla pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 at the Bernabeu, Barca fans could have been forgiven for hoping, but it’s the hope that kills you! Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Los Blancos cruised to victory. That’s 11 in his last seven games in all competitions. He just keeps getting better!

Real Betis 1-1 Atletico Madrid

Atleti are safe in third place but would have expected to win at Real Betis, the side which sacked manager Victor Sanchez last week. Dani Ceballos fired the hosts in front from a corner to put Atletico on the back foot, but Saul Niguez headed down for Stefan Savic to equalise and the visitors were ultimately happy to take a point.

Villarreal 0-0 Deportivo La Coruna

The Yellow Submarine drew a blank at the Estadio de la Ceramica but stay fifth, albeit a single point ahead of sixth and seventh. And this point was invaluable to Deportivo who are now safe, just, after a disappointing season.

Real Sociedad 2-2 Malaga

Sociedad are still in the Europa hunt after earning a draw with a strong Malaga side. It’s the first game in five that the visitors have failed to win and at 2-1 up with five minutes remaining, Malaga thought it would be five in a row. But Jon Bautista was on hand to head the equaliser and grab a point.

Athletic Club 1-1 Leganes

Leganes are safe thanks to a well-earned draw against seventh-placed Athletic Club, and that’s a great achievement. Aritz Aduriz put the hosts in front on 14 minutes but Leganes key man Alexander Szymanowski was there to head the crucial goal which keeps Leganes in the top division.

Eibar 0-1 Sporting Gijon

So it’s Sporting Gijon we say goodbye to despite another plucky display to win an unlikely three points at eighth-placed Eibar. Burgui fired home on 31 minutes to give Sporting real hope, but they were dashed by results elsewhere.

Alaves 3-1 Celta Vigo

Deyverson was among the scorers as Alaves warmed up for the Copa del Rey final by going three up before the break against Celta Vigo. The visitors have lost five in a row now and Barcelona must hope they can get their act together when they play Real Madrid this week.

Osasuna 2-1 Granada

Tony Adams’ flops lost again to take the bottom place in La Liga as Osasuna vacate that spot having held it for much of the season. Jhon Steven Mondragon opened the scoring for the hosts on 24 minutes but Gustavo Ramos equalised before the break. Kenan Kodro converted with 15 minutes remaining to take all three points.

Espanyol 0-1 Valencia

Valencia had an unexpected win in Barcelona thanks to defender Jose Gaya’s shot late in the second half. The visitors avoided a sixth defeat in seven away games in a match with few chances, and one which had the feel of an end-of-season warm down.

Who dares wins in the last-day drama

So sports betting fans, it all comes down to this.

After nine months of football games, which of the Spanish giants will take the La Liga crown?

Will Barcelona give Luis Enrique the perfect send-off and a third successive title? Or are Real Madrid poised to win their first championship since Jose Mourinho guided them to glory in 2012?

Betting odds favour Zinedine Zidane’s team but it ain’t over till it’s over.

WEEK 38 SATURDAY:

Granada vs Espanyol

Granada conclude the season by trying to avoid going further into the record books.

They slipped to the bottom last weekend, and a defeat in this will make it a record seven losses in a row.

Since taking over as coach last month, Tony Adams has seen his side fail to win a single point.

Sporting Gijon vs Real Betis

Despite back-to-back wins, there will be a sombre atmosphere among the Asturians.

Their win at Eibar came too late in their efforts to peg back relieved Deportivo La Coruna.

While Gijon prepare for life in the Segunda Division, Los Verdiblancos, linked with a move for Nolito this week, know they must improve to avoid being involved in a scrap again next year.

WEEK 38 SUNDAY:

Deportivo La Coruna vs Las Palmas

The Galicians can finally breathe a sigh of relief as they welcome Las Palmas for the conclusion of the 2016/17 campaign.

Pepe Mel’s immediate impact in March has helped pull them through, even if results have worsened as of late.

Mid-table Las Palmas can be proud of their efforts over the season, helped by the goals of Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Leganes vs Alaves

A second successive season in the top flight for Leganes means they have accomplished what they set out to achieve.

A second successive season in the top flight for Alaves means the same yet is so much more than that.

That is because a top-10 finish is guaranteed and they have a place in the Copa del Rey final.

Fine campaigns for two of  the three promoted clubs.

Sevilla vs Osasuna

Of course, Osasuna could not make it a trio of promoted clubs preserving top flight status.

They wrap up their campaign by travelling to Sevilla whose main priority now is to find a replacement for Argentina-bound coach Jorge Sampaoli.

The lure of a place in next season’s Champions League will offer real appeal to whoever succeeds him.

Atletico Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao

Atletico Madrid prepare to say goodbye in their final ever match at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

The club promised fans they can take souvenirs from the stadium, but not this weekend as the ground still has to play host to the Copa del Rey final six days later.

Sixth-placed Bilbao will be no pushovers and will want to give a warm send-off to coach Ernesto Valverde who seems Barca bound.

Celta Vigo vs Real Sociedad

A bit like Manchester United in England, Celta Vigo have had to deal with fixture congestion.

Ten games in little over 30 days have taken their toll on the Balaidos outfit.

A good result in this one could yet secure Sociedad the sixth spot which Celta finished in last year.

Valencia vs Villarreal

The Yellow Submarine have a reason to be optimistic.

The club is one victory away from confirming European football next season, while coach Fran Escriba has extended his contract.

Valencia have finished with a flourish, however, with five victories in nine going into this one.

WEEK 38 MONDAY:

Barcelona vs Eibar

An early April defeat at Malaga always looked like a defeat to many, and so it may prove for Barca.

Although they then redeemed themselves by winning at Madrid, it means they are relying on a Real slip going into the final day.

Standing in their way in the Nou Camp are eighth-placed Eibar who deserve credit as one of the success stories of the season.

Will there yet be a last-day twist?

Malaga vs Real Madrid

What a season it could be for Real Madrid.

This is the La Liga decider and a point will do at Michel’s in-form Malaga.

Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed to go for the win after breaking Jimmy Greaves’ all-time goalscoring record in midweek.

What price on a title party at La Rosaleda?

Cristiano is the best Man; Real Madrid is the best Team!

Cristiano Ronaldo and Los Blancos are the very best in Spain! The Portuguese magician was on target within two minutes in Malaga to hand the Primera Division to Los Blancos.

Betting websites, football betting pundits and footy fans worldwide just love Cristiano. He’s big news, he’s a genius and he loves winning football games.

Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid won its first title for five years at La Rosaleda, and Ronaldo settled any nerves early on with his 14th goal in the last nine games. Karim Benzema then added a second to wrap the game up. Next up…Juventus in the Champions League Final. What a game that will be!

Barcelona 4-2 Eibar

Barca fought right to the end, hoping that Malaga could spring a surprise, but had to come back from a two-goal deficit to beat Eibar. Takashi Inui scored twice to put Eibar in charge, but Barca roared back with Ronaldo’s rival for world dominance, Lionel Messi, scoring twice again.

Atletico Madrid 3-1 Athletic Club

Former Liverpool star Fernando Torres was also on target twice for Atletico as Diego Simeone’s side signed off with an impressive home win against Athletic Club. The Bilbao side have had a good season and finished seventh.

Sevilla 5-0 Osasuna

Fourth-placed Sevilla gave bottom club Osasuna an almighty walloping in what could be Jorge Sampaoli’s last game in charge. He may take up the Argentina coaching job with a happy memory of a big win, thanks to two goals each from Vitolo and Franco Vazquez.

Valencia 1-3 Villarreal

The Yellow submarine have finished the season strongly in fifth after an impressive win at the Mestalla. Roberto Soldado smashed the opener in the first minute and Nicola Sansone rounded off matters on 88.

Celta Vigo 2-2 Real Sociedad

A dramatic finish at the Balaidos saw the spoils shared as sixth-place Sociedad grabbed a last-gasp equaliser. Andrew Hjulsager thought he’d won it for Celta with a 90th-minute screamer but four minutes into injury time, Junami headed home for Real.

Granada 1-2 Espanyol

Tony Adams has the unenviable record of having managed seven and lost seven as sorry Granada signed off for the season. Leo Baptistao and an own goal put Espanyol ahead within ten minutes to make it a long game for the home fans.

Leganes 1-1 Alaves

The goal of the weekend came in Madrid as Leganes grabbed a late point to end a great survival season. David Timor hit a beauty from all of 35 yards to cancel out Nenad Krsticic’s opener.

Deportivo La Coruna 3-0 Las Palmas

Depor ended a disappointing season with an encouraging result, wiping Las Palmas away and handing the Gran Canarians a fifth successive defeat. Florin Andone was on target twice as Deportivo finish 16th.

Sporting Gijon 2-2 Real Betis

Relegated Sporting grabbed a point in the 79th minute when Carlos Carmona pounced to make it 2-2 after Ruben Castro had put Real Betis in charge with his 12th and 13th goals of the season.

So it’s farewell from La Liga 2016/17.

And next for Los Blancos…the Champions League.

So can there be one final fairytale?

Barcelona vs Alaves

What do you think? Can lightning strike twice or will there be a farewell salvation for Luis Enrique?

So many questions, yet only one answer sports betting aficionados.

The betting odds suggest the latter in the final of what is known as the Kings Cup; where the kings of Catalonia are up against a club of contrasting fortunes.

For Alaves, the club from the Basque country who were only promoted 12 months ago and before that had been outside the Spanish top-flight for a decade, are playing in the final of a major tournament for only the second time in their 96 year history.

Unlike serial winners Barca, competing in their 39th Copa final, it was unthinkable to imagine Alaves would be one step from glory at the start of this campaign.

Yet they have seen off Deportivo La Coruna, Segunda club Alcorcon and Celta Vigo (who knocked out Real Madrid) to reach the showpiece.

And they are also one of the few clubs to have seen off Barcelona this season.

It was in September when they came away from the Nou Camp both thrilled with a 2-1 La Liga success.

On that occasion, Enrique rotated his squad and brought on Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez but the damage had been done. There’ll be no Suarez this time as both he and Sergi Roberto are suspended.

Without question they will be missed, for this season has proved that most of Barcelona’s squad players simply haven't been good enough.

Can Luis Enrique now inspire them to victory in his final game as manager before he is replaced, almost certainly by Ernesto Valverde.

Athletic Bilbao confirmed Valverde’s own departure from San Mames and his arrival in the Camp Nou is set to be confirmed just before or straight after the final.

Of course, this is not just Enrique’s farewell but the farewell to the Estadio Vicente Calderon – the final competitive game before the stadium is demolished and consigned to history.

Can holders Barca make added history with a record 29th Copa del Rey success?

If they do claim the silverware they will have done it the hard way with aggregate victories over Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid en route.

Should they prevail, the team would have accrued six major trophies from nine under Luis Enrique's stewardship – not a bad record!

But don’t rule out the most unlikely of triumphs –that is if fairytales can really exist at an occasion designed for kings.

Three is the magic number for Luis

Barcelona 3-1 Alaves

It was the perfect send-off for Luis Enrique.

Three Spanish cups in a row and the pre-match betting odds justified to ensure the Barcelona boss, who won more football games than he lost during his three years in charge, bowed out in a way he has become accustomed – with silverware.

It’s arguable that Enrique leaves his beloved Barca in a slightly poorer state than the club he inherited in 2014.

Yet, that assessment may seem harsh when sports betting fans look at his overall record.

Multiple trophies, including a Champions League title and back-to-back La Liga triumphs during his tenure, guarantee that he'll always be remembered fondly.

The Catalan giants had their luck in this, his last match, and the final send-off for the Vicente Calderon.

For example, Neymar’s key second goal was marginally offside and deflated their opponents right on the stroke of half-time.

However, they also had class and, in Lionel Messi, a player who has now scored in five Copa del Rey finals.

He also played a part in the other two goals, for Neymar and Paco Alcacer, in this 3-1 success.

This third cup success in a row, their record 29th, means they are now allowed to keep the trophy.

A fitting end for Enrique as the club prepares to announce Ernesto Valverde as his successor.

A year after earning promotion, this was a wonderful occasion for Alaves.

The Basque club put up a spirited showing.

Ibai Gomez hit the woodwork and Real Madrid-bound Theo Hernandez, on loan from Atletico, scored a fine free-kick to draw the underdogs level.

But there was no denying Barca and Enrique a fond farewell.

If they'll be reunited again one day, only time will tell.

It’s All About One Man!

Let’s be honest, football betting fans.

With a respectful nod to the Bundesliga and Serie A, all the talk right now is focused on two leagues (Ligue 1 and La Liga) and where a certain Brazilian will be playing when competitive domestic football games resume later this month.

For despite fevered speculation over the last fortnight, few expected a Qatari funded club from the French capital to complete a transfer deal which eclipses anything which has gone before and, probably, will surpass anything in the future for some time to come.

Were there even any betting odds on such a move?

Some point to the meeting between Barcelona and Paris St-Germain last season.

The one where Barca famously overturned a 4-0 first leg deficit to complete the mother of all comebacks, albeit with highly dubious refereeing made in their favour.

In the days which followed their remarkable Champions League turnaround, Lionel Messi took many of the plaudits – understandable given his status as one of the best two footballers on the planet.

Yet it’s reported Neymar felt affronted at his lack of recognition.

After all, his two late goals and last-gasp match-winning assist meant he was the real match-winner.

Whether this story is true or not, Neymar is seemingly on his way.

The man who has scored 68 goals in 112 games for the Catalan giants is supposedly ready for a new challenge and the club quickly removed his image from the advertising posters around the Nou Camp.

As Neymar prepares to head to France, to a PSG side hell bent on recreating their dominance after the Monaco’s 2017 glory, the picture is clear for Les Parisiens.

He can be the poster boy in Paris and Ligue 1 and take advantage of the champions who are reeling from the loss of many key players this summer.

Meanwhile, in Spain all the focus is on who will replace the Brazilian – all manner of players have been linked, from Philippe Coutinho to Angel Di Maria to Paulo Dybala. Let’s not forget the opportunity which may now come the way of Gerard Deulofeu, back at Barca after a few years at Everton.

This should be an interesting few weeks in Catalonia.

Across Europe, Milan had previously been the story of the summer.

The sale of more than 60,000 tickets for a Europa League preliminary round tie proves that the Rossoneri’s summer moves have excited their support.

Snatching Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus remains the deal which shocked everyone – until Neymar’s price tag came along – but Franck Kessie could prove to be one of the signings of the summer, while the return of Claudio Marchisio to champions Juventus after injury and the arrival of Douglas Costa could prove equally astute.

Meanwhile, in Germany, James Rodriguez’s loan move to Bayern Munich, where he has been joined by Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso; Sven Bender’s jump from Borussia Dortmund to Bayer Leverkusen (£15 million) and Ignacio Camacho’s arrival at Wolfsburg (also £15 million) are among the stand-out deals.

Yet, let us be honest: there’s only one transfer Europe is talking about right now.

Neymar, it’s over to you!

The Big Football Betting Questions are in Spain

We’re off on tour again to Munich, Paris, Milan, and Madrid as the big European Leagues kick off this week, and you can enjoy the lot with Asian Handicap Betting.

There are clear favourites in Italy, Germany and France, where handicap betting is the best way to play, as it is in Spain’s La Liga, where no one can agree on a favourite.

Real Madrid took the honours last season, winning both La Liga and the Champions League but Barcelona and the brilliant Lionel Messi pushed them close. Barca won one the best El Clasicos in history and will be determined to regain the top spot, but Zinedine Zidane may recruit to add to the exceptional Cristiano Ronaldo…Monaco’s Kylian M’Bappe maybe? Both teams are at 2.25 to win La Liga, with Atletico Madrid pushing them all the way at 7.50.

Can anyone stop the Old Lady of Serie A? Max Allegri’s Juventus are looking for a seventh Scudetto in a row and with the ageless Gianluigi Buffon at one end and the potent Gonzalo Higuain at the other, who’d bet against them at 1.55? Well, Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli looks a decent punt at 5.50 with their creative threat of Lorenzo Insigne, Marek Hamsik and Dries Mertens. Then again, Vincenzo Montella got AC Milan going last season, finishing sixth, crucially a place ahead of Inter and they can keep improving, available at 5.70 to upset the Bianconeri too.

Bayern are at 1.15 to make it six Bundesligas on the bounce and now have James Rodriguez to add to the goal threat of Robert Lewandowski. And with the rich talents of Franck Ribery, David Alaba and Arturo Vidal the Munich giants will be a formidable force again. Borussia Dortmund are the main threat at 6.90 and their fans will be delighted to keep hold of Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang. His 121 goals in 198 games for Dortmund show his worth.

Leonardo Jardim masterminded a stunning league win for Monaco in last year’s Championnat and they are at 8.50 to repeat that feat. But much will depend on how his team can recover from the likely departure of Kylian M’Bappe if they are to challenge strong favourites PSG again. The determination to regain the crown in Paris is made crystal clear by their record- breaking capture of Neymar at 222 million Euros.

That’s how much it means to win!

Barca Can Win Super Cup for their Football Betting Fans

Real Madrid vs Barcelona

La Liga’s elite come head to head on Sunday as Barcelona and Real Madrid meet to contest the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana at the Camp Nou.

It’s a second El Clasico in two weeks for new Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde and there are no bigger domestic football games in the world. And his team is backed to win with betting odds of 1.97; Los Blancos are at 3.20 and the draw 3.85.

That would be two in a row for the new Barca boss after his side beat Zinedine Zidane’s La Liga Champions in the ICC in Miami, 3-2, with Gerard Pique’s second half goal winning the game. Los Blancos were also thumped by Manchester City 4-1, while Barcelona have been unbeaten in pre-season with victories over Manchester United and Juventus.

Barca are in the Supercopa as Copa del Rey champions but this season they’ll desperately want to recover the La Liga title. Thing is, they have already been caught out in their preparations by PSG, stumping up the 222m Euros needed to take Neymar to Paris, and are now frantically pursuing Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

And they won’t have it all their own way in this game. Real showed their class recently in the UEFA Super Cup with a 2-1 win over Manchester United in a match they bossed for much of the game.

Barcelona may be in good pre-season form but Los Blancos do seem to turn up whenever there’s a trophy to be had.

Cristiano’s the Man for the Biggest Football Games!

Barcelona 1-3 Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo is box office stuff. In a mad five minutes, he scored a brilliant goal to put Real Madrid in charge of the Supercopa then got himself sent off!

Betting odds favoured a home win in the first leg, but in a frantic second half, Los Blancos took control in rather unconventional fashion. And now with a two-goal lead, football betting pundits are ready to hand this trophy to Real Madrid.

In a quiet first half, Lionel Messi came closest with a free-kick, but the Catalans had an unlucky start to the second period when Gerard Pique stretched to steer the ball past Ter Stegen and into his own net.

Barca fans’ least favourite player, Ronaldo, had appeared at the start of the second half to make matters worse, and when Gareth Bale crossed, Madrid’s superstar tried a scissor kick but failed to convert. Then Barca drew level when Denis Suarez went down under a challenge from Keylor Navas and Messi scored from the spot…the little genius loves El Clasico!

But then enter Ronaldo to do what he does best and steal the limelight. First, he scored a brilliant solo goal and got himself booked for taking his shirt off to reveal his beautiful torso! Then minutes later, he appeared to take a dive in the box and received a second yellow. He didn’t agree with the ref and gave the official a shove which may get him into trouble.

Marco Asensio made it three with another stunning strike, and now it’s Madrid’s to lose in the second leg.

But you can’t take your eyes off Ronaldo!

Welcome to the Crazy Super Cup!

Real Madrid vs (3-1 on agg.) Barcelona

You better believe it sports betting fans!

El Clasico football games always matter, especially when there’s a trophy at stake.

And while victory is not necessarily a good omen for the nine months ahead, this is no different!

The betting odds clearly favour the top side in the world. After all, reigning European and world champions Real Madrid return home to the Bernabeu for the second leg holding a 3-1 advantage – that’s why Barcelona are priced Asian Handicap 0.00 @ 5.54 to triumph overall.

Of course, the tie is far from over as other odds show: Real are priced 1X2 @ 2.38 and Barcelona 1X2 @ 2.68.

Certainly, we all know these matches can change so quickly.

The first leg did in the blink of an eye.

Indeed, Cristiano Ronaldo’s been banned for five matches after shoving the referee following his red card – all within a three minute period in which he scored, was booked for taking his top off and then received a second yellow card for alleged diving.

Should Real feel aggrieved? Perhaps, given they have now finished four of the last five El Clasicos with 10 men.

Why should Ronaldo have been shown a second yellow for diving when Luis Suarez dived to win Barcelona a penalty five minutes earlier in the contest?

Whatever the rights and wrongs – and that debate deserves an article of its own – Los Blancos showed again in the Nou Camp why they are the number one.

The La Liga and Champions League winners had too much for the Catalans, themselves still reeling from the departure of Neymar.

More drama is surely guaranteed in Madrid as Zinedine Zidane goes in search of a second Super Cup triumph in eight days, while Ernesto Valverde bids for early success in his Nou Camp career.

Real are superior in every department right now and I expect them to prevail and lift yet more silverware.

Barca fans take heart though: the last six winners of the Supercopa de Espana have come up short in La Liga the following season.

This is Why Rampant Real are Undisputed Number One

Real Madrid 2-0 (5-1 on agg.) Barcelona

No Ronaldo, no problem!

Admit it, sports betting fans – some of you thought Real Madrid may face a struggle without the world’s finest footballer.

Yet they just keep on winning football games with or without Cristiano.

That’s now two trophies this season and a ball has not yet even been kicked in La Liga.

Live betting hopes of a Barcelona turnaround lasted all but four minutes inside the Santiago Bernabeu.

That’s how long it took Marco Asensio to follow up his first-leg strike with another wonder finish – a long-distance shot which left Marc-Andre ter Stegen rooted to the spot.

The one-way traffic continued as Lucas Vazquez struck the post from Karim Benzema’s pass before the Frenchman doubled Madrid’s lead, showing his undoubted class six minutes before the break.

Lionel Messi hit the bar early in the second period but even had that gone in, even had Luis Suarez not seen a 71st-minute header hit the post, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Real long had the tie and the trophy in the bag and now have the Supercopa to add to the European Super Cup they clinched a week ago.

In contrast, Barca seem troubled.

They may have beaten Real in a meaningless pre-season encounter but have been well beaten over two legs when the competitive action has begun.

A less than pleasing start for Ernesto Valverde who will immediately be under pressure should the Catalans start their La Liga campaign badly, while the departure of Neymar seems to have rocked their confidence.

In addition, there are players in their line-up who would not have been considered good enough for the Catalan giants not so long ago.

Then there’s the signing of Paulinho, a player which could yet prove valuable for the club but not a signature which is sending pulses racing.

Then there’s the failure, so far at least, to secure a marquee signing to make the faithful believe again.

But enough about Barcelona, this was Real Madrid’s night.

It was also the 68th consecutive match in which they have scored, meaning they are now just six games away from equalling the world record set by Brazilian club Santos during Pele’s pomp.

The legendary Brazilian would no doubt approve of the Real class of 2017 who are very much in their pomp.

La Liga, it’s over to you!

Sports Betting in the Sunshine with La Liga!

Has the Supercopa whetted your appetite? Well, there’s plenty more of that to come! La Liga is off and running again this weekend and I can’t wait.

Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid are odds on at 1.75 with Asian handicap betting to win La Liga but Barcelona are ready to grab back the title.

WEEK 1 SATURDAY:

Leganes vs Alaves

The biggest games come on Sunday, but we start with a cracker in Madrid with Leganes hosting Copa del Rey finalists Alaves. The minnows did well to survive last season and are fancied to make a winning start again at betting odds of 2.13, with Alaves at 3.45 and 3.25 the draw.

Valencia vs Las Palmas

The fans at the Mestalla are among the most demanding in football and after a lacklustre season last year, they’ll be on the hunt for a fast start this season. Las Palmas never fail to provide entertainment and that’s set to continue having secured the services of Spain winger Vitolo from Atletico Madrid.

WEEK 1 SUNDAY:

Celta Vigo vs Real Sociedad

Celta Vigo’s season rather fizzled out and pre-season had been underwhelming until a 4-1 thumping of Italian giants Roma at the weekend. Former Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj arrives at Real Sociedad having been relegated from the Premier League with Sunderland.

Girona vs Atletico Madrid

Girona are favourites to go down at 1.75 but should take heart from Leganes’ heroic efforts last year. What a start for the new boys when Diego Simeone’s Atletico come to town, with star man Antoine Griezmann still with the Champions League outfit.

Sevilla vs RCD Espanyol

Sevilla will join Atletico in the Champions League, finishing fourth last season, and have strengthened their firepower with the arrival of goal scorer Luis Muriel. Espanyol had a strong season finishing eighth and will hope to improve on that this term.

WEEK 1 MONDAY:

Athletic Bilbao vs Getafe

Newly-promoted Getafe have a tough start on their return to the top division with a visit to Athletic Club, who finished seventh last season. The omens aren’t good for the visitors having lost the last five against Betis, scoring just two goals while conceding 11.

Barcelona vs Real Betis

Ernesto Valverde still hopes to bring Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho as a replacement for Neymar but he has already added former Spurs midfielder Paulinho, after a successful spell in China, and Gerard Deulofeu from Everton. This game is a free hit for Real Betis at massive odds of 19.00!

Deportivo La Coruna vs Real Madrid

The champions will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for the opening four fixtures after his SuperCopa sending off, but ZZ has plenty of talent to call upon with Isco likely to deputise and Gareth Bale ready for action. Depor had a poor season by their standards and are hoping to improve by bringing Lucas Perez back from Arsenal.

WEEK 1 TUESDAY:

Levante vs Villarreal

The Segunda Division winners welcome the Yellow Submarine after the visitors missed out on Champions League football for this season. Villarreal have made a real coup though in the signing of Carlos Bacca, who scored 31 goals in his two years at AC Milan.

Malaga vs Eibar

The weekend’s fixtures come to a close with a game which was a mid-table battle last season, as Malaga finished 10th, a place above Eibar. The hosts won this fixture 2-1 last time, and after a friendly win over Villarreal at the weekend will hope for a repeat.

Spanish Football – So Did You Miss It?

Welcome back La Liga.

Football games in what its promoters are only too keen to tell us is the top league in the world.

Technically, it’s hard to argue – even if it’s hard to beat the English Premier League for pure drama and excitement.

The betting odds always point to the dominant two in Spain (Atletico Madrid have made it three in recent years) and it’s hard to argue otherwise this time around.

The surprise of the weekend? An almost fairytale start for newly-promoted Girona which few sports betting fans saw coming.

The moment of the weekend? The emotional minute’s silence held before all the opening games in tribute to those killed and injured in the Catalonia terror attacks.

Leganes 1-0 Alaves

Leganes, the side which only managed eight league victories last season, have made the start they craved.

If they face another relegation battle this term, who knows how important the first goal of the La Liga 2017/18 will be.

Gabriel got it, firing home the winner in the 24th minute after the ball was pushed into his path.

Valencia 1-0 Las Palmas

This time last year, Simone Zaza was struggling to adapt to life in England and West Ham.

Now, he seems far more settled.

The former Hammers and Juventus man’s 22nd-minute finish ensured new Valencia manager Marcelino a winning start, helped of course by the dismissal 12 minutes later of Croatian midfielder Alen Halilovic.

Celta Vigo 2-3 Real Sociedad

Coming back twice from behind shows real character and could prove Real Sociedad’s greatest strength this term.

Maxi Gomez had twice put the hosts, Europa League semi-finalists last season, ahead.

But Mikel Oyarzabal, Juanmi and a late Willian Jose penalty clinched a winning start for the Basque club.

Girona 2-2 Atletico Madrid

What a top flight debut for La Liga new boys Girona.

Christian Stuani, once of Middlesbrough, had them in dreamland with two goals in three minutes midway through the first half.

With Atletico star man Antoine Griezmann dismissed on the hour, Girona dared to dream more about the biggest day (so far) in their 87-year history.

But Atletico haven’t become one of the most respected sides in Europe without reason and substitute Angel Correa reduced the arrears before substitute Jose Maria Gimenez bravely headed in a leveller.

Sevilla 1-1 Espanyol

From the start there was drama.

The whistle had barely sounded when home keeper David Soria had to leave the field injured after a fine double save and could only watch as Clement Lenglet bundled home the opener before a Leo Baptistao howitzer levelled things up.

Ever Banega’s second-half dismissal left the hosts playing the game out with 10 men.

Athletic Bilbao 0-0 Getafe

A fine point for Getafe on their return to La Liga.

Goalkeeper Vicente Guaita made a string of fine saves as the newly-promoted club held on for a point against last season’s seventh-placed team.

An even better point after Alvaro Jimenez’s second booking for the visitors midway through the second half.

Barcelona 2-0 Real Betis

On an emotional night in the Nou Camp, an own goal and a Sergi Roberto strike ensured the hosts made a winning start to the league season.

A victory dedicated to the victims of the terror attacks in the city just three days earlier, it briefly lifted the sombre feeling as many fans stayed away after the attack.

Betis were always second best against the Lionel Messi-inspired Catalans.

Deportivo La Coruna 0-3 Real Madrid

Just like last season, Real are in the groove and the champions are up and running.

Gareth Bale scored the opener, set up the third for Toni Kroos with a Casemiro strike in between capping a 44-pass move.

Keylor Navas also saved a Florin Andone penalty before Los Blancos lost skipper Sergio Ramos to his 23rd ever sending-off for Real, who say they will appeal the decision.

They shouldn’t bother – it was a blatant red.

Levante 1-0 Villarreal

Back in the top flight and back with a bang.

It may have taken a controversial penalty to ensure Levante made a winning return to La Liga but they will not care one jot.

Jose Luis Morales’ 87th-minute spot-kick sealed victory against the side which finished fifth last season, and the Yellow Submarine can feel rightly aggrieved with the decision.

Malaga 0-1 Eibar

The two mid-table clubs from last time and a game that always looked like being tight was exactly that.

That Charles, who only left Malaga this summer, headed the only goal proved deeply frustrating for the Basque side.

Another impressive victory for the top flight’s smallest club.

Big Teams are Just Perfect for Asian Handicap Betting!

Real Madrid and Barcelona got off to winning starts in La Liga last week and the battle continues with the joint title favourites aiming to sweep their next opponents aside.

Winning 3-0 and 2-0 is a decent start, of course, and with such strong teams at the top end of the league, handicap betting is always the best option. Barca beat Real Betis 2-0 but Lionel Messi hit the post three times, not the most relaxing watch for live betting fans!

WEEK 2 SATURDAY:

Real Sociedad vs Villarreal

Saturday's opener pitches together two strong sides which had contrasting fortunes last week. The Yellow Submarine were sunk by a last-gasp winner from new boys Levante, while Willian Jose scored a last-minute penalty to grab Sociedad a 3-2 win over Celta Vigo. A draw at 3.45 looks a likely outcome

Real Betis vs Celta Vigo

Celta were ahead twice in that defeat and will hope to get off the mark against a Real Betis side which had the woodwork to thank for coming away from the Camp Nou with just a two-goal loss.

WEEK 2 SUNDAY:

Alaves vs Barcelona

Barcelona are at odds of 1.87 to win with a -1.50 handicap against Alaves. Sergi Roberto was the star of Barcelona’s win against Betis with a goal and a superb all-round performance, while Alaves got off to a poor start losing to Leganes.

Las Palmas vs Atletico Madrid

If Diego Simeone’s Atletico are to mount a series challenge to the big two, it can’t afford many repeats of last week’s draw with newly-promoted Girona. Las Palmas will be glad to get back to their Gran Canaria home after losing in Valencia.

Girona vs Malaga

Former Middlesbrough man Cristhian Stuani was the hero for Girona, netting both goals in their shock result in Madrid, and they will fancy their chances again against a Malaga side which struggled last season and opened this one with defeat to Eibar.

Levante vs Deportivo La Coruna

Levante got off to a cracking start when Jose Luis Morales converted his 88th-minute winner against Villarreal and have a chance to make it two wins from two against a Deportivo side well beaten by Los Blancos last week.

WEEK 2 MONDAY:

Real Madrid vs Valencia

No Cristiano Ronaldo but a 3-0 win for Los Blancos with Gareth Bale on target was the perfect start. Valencia opened with a win against Las Palmas and are at 2.17 to win again… but with a +2.00 goal start.

Getafe vs Sevilla

European hopefuls Sevilla drew 1-1 with Espanyol on the opening day while Getafe got off the mark with a goalless draw with Athletic Club. And it was a 1-1 draw when these two last met at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez in 2016.

Espanyol vs Leganes

That was a decent point for Espanyol, but they can’t take anything for granted when they return to Barcelona to take on Madrid minnows Leganes, who believe survival is on the cards again after an opening day win against Alaves.

Eibar vs Athletic Club

A Charles header gave Eibar a winning start against Malaga, but Athletic Club will hope to improve on their opening day draw with Getafe. The Bilbao side have won four of the last five meetings between these two.

This was History in the Making!

Well, did anyone see that coming?

The champions being held at home certainly wasn’t something many sports betting tipsters would have plumped for, while the betting odds on strugglers Leganes winning their first two matches could have proved profitable if you were daring enough.

There was also a first ever top flight victory for one club.

Week two of football games in La Liga certainly proved compelling.

Real Sociedad 3-0 Villarreal

The Anoeta Stadium was buzzing as Sociedad made it two wins from two.

All the damage was done in the first half as Willian Jose, Xabi Prieto and Juanmi found the net.

That prompted visiting defender Alvaro Gonzalez to say he and his team-mates need to change their ‘mentality’.

Real Betis 2-1 Celta Vigo

A great way for Betis to start off at its redeveloped Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Most of the expanded arena saluted a late winner from Zouhair Feddal.

This after Vigo’s Maxi Gomez and Sergio Leon had traded goals.

Alaves 0-2 Barcelona

As long as they still have Lionel Messi, they still have a chance!

The Argentinian maestro saw a first-half penalty excellently saved but made amends with a second-half double to sink Alaves.

Now, we wait to see what kind of impact Barca-bound Ousmane Dembele could have.

Girona 1-0 Malaga

History in the making.

The name of Pedro Alcala will be forever in the history books as the man who secured Girona’s first ever victory in the Spanish top flight.

The dream start continues but tensions seem high between Malaga president Abdullah Al-Thani and coach Michel who has called for reinforcements to his squad.

Levante 2-2 Deportivo La Coruna

Likewise, fellow new boys Levante have made a start to be proud of.

They trailed Deportivo, courtesy of goals from Fede Cartabia and Sidnei.

But an Enis Bardhi free-kick restored hope and, despite being reduced to 10 men, then restored parity when substitute Ivi Lopez converted from the penalty spot.

Las Palmas 1-5 Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone is continuing to break records as he guided Los Rojiblancos to a 13th successive unbeaten league game away from home and secured his 200th win in charge of the club.

Once Angel Correa slotted home the opener inside three minutes, doubled two minutes later by Yannick Carrasco, the outcome was never in doubt.

They like this ground – Atletico hit five here last season too!

Eibar 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

He really is ever green, isn’t he!?

Aritz Aduriz sure still knows where the net is, even at the age of 36, after settling the contest against hosts and local rivals who were reduced to 10 men in injury time.

A good few days for the Basque club after they sealed their place in the Europa League group stages.

Espanyol 0-1 Leganes

A fine start to the campaign for the club which faced a relegation battle for virtually all the last campaign.

Two wins out of two now, thanks to Martin Mantovani’s 28th-minute goal.

His poked finish consigned Espanyol to defeat – a surprise after their opening day draw with Sevilla.

Getafe 0-1 Sevilla

Newly-promoted Getafe can feel a bit hard done by after losing this so late on.

But it was a good example of how tough life can be at the top as they went down to Ganso’s 83rd-minute finish.

A first La Liga win for new boss Eduardo Berizzo after which it was reported the club’s hope of getting Stevan Jovetic back on loan is unlikely with the front man touted as a possible signing for Monaco.

Real Madrid 2-2 Valencia

In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo (suspended) and Gareth Bale (already substituted), step forward Marco Asensio.

His late free-kick rescued a point for the champions as spirited Valencia threatened to cause the mother of all upsets in the Bernabeu.

Two fine finishes make him the early leader in the club’s scoring charts, while this was also a fine start to his Valencia life for loanee Geoffrey Kondogbia who threatened the shock until Asensio grabbed his moment.

Massive Mbappe Deal Makes This a Big Window!

Kylian Mbappe has switched from Monaco to PSG in a move which has set the pulses racing in European football.

After Neymar’s €222m switch from Barca to PSG, we’ve had a transfer window to remember in France with the Paris giants flexing their muscles again by capturing the hottest property in Ligue 1. The football betting world watched with interest, and there’s now some time to mull over this big transfer with a weekend of international football games to come.

Online betting fans will look closely at PSG when they start to make their picks for the Champions League. And with good reason, too, as we understand that Mbappe’s loan move agreement includes an obligation to buy for £166m next summer. This coup might just give Unai Emery’s stars enough to smash through the glass ceiling and break up the Spanish and German domination of Europe.

Elsewhere, it was a pretty quiet day across the continent with the Bundesliga window closing yesterday and La Liga tomorrow. The big story in Spain is Barcelona’s pursuit of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho. The Catalans have a €130m offer on the table and they need to replace Neymar with a new talent, but Liverpool are standing firm and insist they won’t sell.

In Italy, the deals were mostly done early in the summer, but today, former Manchester United winger Nani has arrived at Napoli. In a big money move, Duvan Zapata has left Naples to go to Sampdoria.

But beware, all you European aristocrats: the French Revolution is coming.

Lionel Can Sparkle for Barcelona’s Football Betting Fans

There may be some transfer frustration in Catalonia but while player incomings and outgoings worried the supporters, Lionel Messi scored a brace against Alaves to put Barca joint top.

So. hey! Don’t worry. Betting websites couldn’t split Los Blancos and Barca for La Liga title before a ball was kicked, but it’s the Catalan’s who have taken an early lead and that’s unlikely to change this weekend.

WEEK 3 SATURDAY:

Leganes vs Getafe

First Week 3 match sees last season’s star minnows welcome newly-promoted Getafe, and with our Asian Handicap Betting offer of 2.09 for a home win, we can see just how far Asier Garitano’s team has come, with two wins from two so far this season. Getafe has one earned one point and is at 3.50 to pick up a first win, but is yet to score a goal while the hosts haven’t conceded.

Real Madrid vs Levante

New boys Levante will be delighted with their start at the top table with four points from their first two games, the same as Los Blancos. But that’s where the similarity ends and there will likely be a three point difference by Saturday evening!

Valencia vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico’s biggest triumph in the transfer window was keeping hold of Antoine Griezmann, for the time being. And now Head Coach Diego Simeone has signed a two-year extension. Smiles at Atletico will turn to frowns though if they can’t win against Valencia, who, by the way, held Real Madrid to a draw last week.

WEEK 3 SUNDAY:

Sevilla vs Eibar

Sevilla haVE made a solid if unspectacular start, scoring twice to pick up a win and a draw, while visitor’s Eibar have had one win and a defeat. Home Coach Eduardo Berrizo will see this as a chance for his team to keep up with the early pacesetters.

Barcelona vs Espanyol

Barcelona derby gives Barca a chance to make it three wins from three and banish the transfer window blues. With Neymar gone and no Coutinho arriving Ernesto Valverde will just have to make do with Messi! Espanyol has a solitary point so far and needs a +2.00 goal start to be given odds of 2.19 to win.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Real Sociedad

What a start Real Sociedad have had with two wins from two, and are at odds of 2.49 to make it three against Depor. Juanmi and William Jose have already scored two apiece for the visitors while Deportivo have a single point and will want to avoid getting sucked into an early battle at the bottom.

Athletic Bilbao vs Girona

Newly-promoted Girona were overwhelming favourites for the drop but have picked up four early points including a draw with Atletico. Christhian Stuani has scored twice already. The Bilbao hosts need to keep and eye on the ex-Middlesbrough man while they aim to make it seven points from three.

WEEK 3 MONDAY:

Villarreal vs Real Betis

It’s been a miserable start for the Yellow Submarine with two defeats and no goals. It’s time for marquee signing Carlos Bacca to lift the spirits and where better to do it than at the first home game. Betis will have something to say though having beaten Celta Vigo last time out.

Celta Vigo vs Alaves

And that made it a pointless start for Juan Carlos Unzue’s Celta Vigo, which may be a bit of a worry following last season when Celta faded quite alarmingly. Alaves, too, are without a point and may suffer second season syndrome after their Copa final appearance last year. This could be a nervy match.

WEEK 3 TUESDAY:

Malaga vs Las Palmas

Malaga and Las Palmas must wait until Tuesday to win their first point of the season. The hosts have had disappointing results against Eibar and Girona, while Las Palmas was thumped 5-1 last week by Atletico. The visitors will settle for a point, but that’s no good for Malaga.

Three More for Messi as Brilliant Barca Race to the Top

Barcelona sit at the top of La Liga after three wins from three league football games, the latest a 5-0 drubbing of Espanyol in the Catalan derby.

And that puts them four points ahead of Real Madrid after Levante defied logic and betting odds by holding Los Blancos at the Bernabeu. It’s very early days but Barca have nudged slightly ahead of Real Madrid on betting websites as favourites to regain the title.

Barcelona 5-0 RCD Espanyol

Lionel Messi scored the 38th hat-trick of his career as Ernesto Valverde’s men swept Espanyol aside to romp to the top of the league. Messi bagged his three before the break, the first from an offside position, before Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez made late additions to Espanyol’s woe. So far so good for Barca.

Real Madrid 1-1 Levante

Levante are still unbeaten on its return to the top flight, thanks to a great point at the home of the champions. The new boys went ahead through Ivi and Real equalised before the break through Lucas Vazquez. But the visitors held out and Real’s Marcelo compounded Zinedine Zidane’s annoyance after getting a silly late red for kicking out at Jefferson Lerma.

Deportivo La Coruna 2-4 Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad join Barcelona at the top after continuing their perfect start with a 4-2 win at Deportivo. The hosts fought back to level after Sociedad had gone two up in five minutes, but Asier Illarramendi scored his second as the visitors struck twice again late in the game.

Sevilla 3-0 Eibar

Sevilla climbed to third place after beating Eibar with a second-half onslaught, after the teams went in goalless at the break. Paulo Henrique scored soon after the restart, Wissam Ben Yedder made it two and Nolito made the points safe in stoppage time.

Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Girona

Athletic Club join Sevilla on seven points after consigning newly-promoted Girona to its first defeat of the season with a goal either side of the break. Iker Muniain opened the scoring before veteran striker Aritz Aduriz doubled the lead.

Leganes 1-2 Getafe

Friday night’s match saw a first defeat of the season for Leganes, but the minnows stay fifth. Mauro Arambarri put the visitors ahead before Miguel Angel Guerrero equalised. Guerrero had a chance to put Leganes ahead but missed a penalty, and Alvaro Jiminez took advantage with the winner.

Valencia 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Atletico were frustrated at the Mestalla as they failed to break down a stubborn Valencia defence. The draw means Atletico are on five points alongside Real Madrid. They should have seen this coming after Valencia drew last time out with Los Blancos!

Villarreal 3-1 Real Betis

The Yellow Submarine finally got its season off the ground after coming from behind to beat Real Betis at the Ceramic Stadium. Carlos Bacca scored his first goal for his new club in a much-needed win.

Celta Vigo 1-0 Alaves

And Celta too grabbed their first points of the season in a nervy affair at home to Alaves. Maxi Gomez got the only goal of the game at Balaidos, and now that’s three defeats for pointless Alaves.

Malaga 1-3 Las Palmas

In the Monday night match, Las Palmas got their season on the way with a first win away at Malaga, leaving the hosts stranded on no points. Jonathan Viera, Jonathan Calleri and ex-Chelsea star Loic Remy were on target for the visitors.

In Spain and Europe, Messi is the Grand Master

The little genius just seems to get better and better. Lionel Messi has started this season in a mood to dominate all before him, and that’s not good news for Getafe.

The Barca superstar has fired his team to the top of La Liga, with five goals in three football games, and now I’ll make a football prediction that he adds to that tally on Saturday.

WEEK 4 SATURDAY:

Eibar vs Leganes

Before all that, the action is served up by Eibar and Leganes where despite Leganes strong start, betting odds suggest a home win. 16th-placed Eibar are at 2.14 with Leganes at 3.40 and 3.25 the draw. But Eibar suffered a thumping in Seville last week and has scored a solitary goal so far.

Levante vs Valencia

Eighth plays ninth in a clash between two sides which have made solid starts. Valencia have drawn with both Madrid giants on the way to five points, and Levante are unbeaten on their return to the top flight with a win and two draws, Ivi top scoring with two. The hosts also won this fixture 1-0 in 2016.

Getafe vs Barcelona

Getafe sit in mid table after a good, if slightly lucky, win at Leganes but they have a mammoth task to keep Messi and co at bay. The Catalans hammered Espanyol, 5-0, before humbling Juventus in midweek, Messi scoring five in the two games. The only way to balance the odds is with a Handicap of -1.75 which puts Barca at 1.91 and Getafe at 2.02.

WEEK 4 SUNDAY:

Real Betis vs Deportivo La Coruna

Depor have a single point and will be desperate to avoid another relegation tussle and pin their hopes on striker Florin Andone, who has looked a bright spark so far. Sergio Leon is the biggest threat for Qique Setien’s team which will expect to win at home.

Atletico Madrid vs Malaga

Diego Simeone’s Atletico had a tough Champions league opener, drawing with Roma, but should have an easier ride this weekend. The hosts are on five points having drawn last week with Valencia while Malaga is pointless.

Alaves vs Villarreal

Alaves are rock bottom with three defeats so far and could be suffering from second season syndrome. Meanwhile, Carlos Bacca scored as Villarreal got off the mark with a win over Real Betis. But Alaves can take some heart as they won both games between these two last season.

Girona vs Sevilla

Girona are making a decent fist of life in the Primera Division with four points, putting them to 11th place and they will hope Sevilla haven’t yet recovered from their trip to Liverpool, having defended for much of a 2-2 draw. But the visitors have started well at home and are in third place on seven points.

WEEK 4 MONDAY:

Las Palmas vs Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Club too have seven points and take a trip to Gran Canaria in good form. Las Palmas were relieved to get off the mark last week with a win in Malaga. Former Chelsea striker Loic Remy was among the scorers and he could prove to be a smart acquisition.

Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid

What a test this is for Los Blancos. And they already trail the league leaders by four points, one of which is Real Sociedad having made a perfect start. Asier Illarramendi has his scoring boots on so Madrid, beware. Zinedine Zidane’s men had a relatively relaxing midweek win over Apoel Nicosia.

WEEK 4 TUESDAY:

RCD Espanyol vs Celta Vigo

Quique Sanchez Flores apologised to Espanyol fans after the derby thrashing and his team are stuck on a single point and, though it’s early days, no-one wants to be teetering on the edge of the drop zone. Celta Vigo grabbed their first points of the season last week so will play with more freedom.

Sports Betting have their First Managerial Casualty

Four La Liga football games in and the table is starting to take shape.

However, the betting odds aren’t all being followed.

As this weekend proved, managers don’t get long nowadays to prove their worth, while the smaller, unfancied teams just love to put their wits against the big boys and try and cause a surprise.

Eibar 1-0 Leganes

A milestone home victory for Eibar.

How fitting for the club as it marked its 70th anniversary of the opening of the Municipal de Ipurua stadium.

Alejandro Galvez’s second-half header proved the difference.

Levante 1-1 Valencia

Still unbeaten, both sides can be quietly content with their starts to the campaign – particularly the hosts.

Rodrigo Moreno’s header from an Andreas Pereira cross – the on-loan Man Utd man will be one to watch – gave the visitors the lead.

But they were unable to build further on their draw against the champions a week earlier, Enis Bardhi restoring parity for Levante.

Getafe 1-2 Barcelona

Four wins out of four for Barca, but this came at a cost.

On his first league start for the Catalans, Ousmane Dembele limped off and will be out of action until Christmas.

It was left to two subs, Denis Suarez and another new signing, Paulinho, to end the challenge of spirited Getafe.

Real Betis 2-1 Deportivo La Coruna

Betis captain Joaquin may be 36 but he’s still going strong.

His double won the match and consigned Deportivo to a third defeat in four.

The Galicians had hope when Fede Cartabia equalised.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Malaga

Words can’t always do justice to the pictures.

The new Wanda Metropolitano was a sight to behold as Atletico marked their new home with a victory.

Antoine Griezmann helped the party mood even further with the only goal on a night when there was a pre-match flyover from Spain’s Royal Air Force and when the match ball was delivered by paragliders in front of the country’s king, Felipe VI.

An occasion fit for royalty.

Alaves 0-3 Villarreal

Alaves are bottom with no points and no goals.

Cedric Bakambu played a key part in that after his double helped the Yellow Submarine to an ultimately comprehensive victory.

It prompted Alaves to part ways with their manager – Luis Zubeldia the first casualty of the new campaign.

Girona 0-1 Sevilla

No one can accuse Girona of not giving it their all.

They pushed illustrious opponents all the way here and were only beaten because of Luis Muriel’s second-half goal.

And, crucially, because Alex Granell sent an injury-time spot-kick crashing against the crossbar.

Las Palmas 1-0 Athletic Bilbao

Loic Remy’s talent has never been in doubt.

Now if he can stake a regular starting place, his goals may lift Las Palmas to unimagined heights.

He made an instant impact off the bench to fire the only goal of the game three minutes from time.

Real Sociedad 1-3 Real Madrid

This was more like it from the champions.

Real ended Sociedad’s winning start to the new season with Gareth Bale scoring a fine goal, his sixth at the Anoeta.

With Cristiano Ronaldo back next game, watch out for Real!

Espanyol 2-1 Celta Vigo

A first win of 2017/18 and Espanyol are out of the drop zone.

Two goals on the counter-attack from Gerard Moreno and Pablo Piatti sealed victory.

That 2-0 advantage established in the opening 23 minutes was never surrendered.

Live Betting Fun in the Spanish Twilight

There’s not much better in sports than football under the floodlights; the spectacular sights, the passion in the crowds and world-class performances. We’ll have it all this week in La Liga.

Only two points separate Real Madrid in fourth from Eibar in 13th and with a full programme of Primera Division football games in midweek, there could be quite a shake-up.

Let’s see who’s in good shape and who needs to find some form.

WEEK 5 WEDNESDAY:

Barcelona vs Eibar

Barcelona are top and should stay there after Eibar’s visit, despite their win against Leganes last Saturday. With Asian Handicap Betting, you can get odds of 2.03 on a home win with a -2.50 handicap, and Eibar are at 1.90 with a +2.50 goal advantage. The leaders will be without £97m signing Ousmane Dembele, out with a hamstring injury.

Valencia vs Malaga

With a visit from Malaga, still without a point this season, the Mestalla will be bouncing as Valencia—with six in the bag and still unbeaten—can make a move on the top group with an expected home win.

WEEK 5 THURSDAY:

Athletic Bilbao vs Atletico Madrid

Losing to Las Palmas was a blow to the Bilbao side after an impressive start to the campaign, and they’ll want to get back on track against fifth-placed Atletico. Antoine Griezmann was on target as the visitors beat Malaga, and his team is at 2.22 to win again, with a home win at 3.35 and 3.15 the draw.

Leganes vs Girona

After winning its first two games, Leganes have lost two, disappointingly to Eibar last Saturday, but I fancy them to get back to winning ways against new boys Girona. Four points from four isn’t a bad return for starters, but after losing to Sevilla a difficult run could be on the cards.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Alaves

I didn’t really expect Deportivo to struggle so much again this season, but it’s been an uninspiring start, with just a solitary point. But that’s one more than Alaves have and so the Depor fans will demand a win, with Florin Andone their best chance of goals.

Sevilla vs Las Palmas

Second-placed Sevilla can keep the pressure on Barca with a home win, but it won’t be easy as the visitors make the trip from Gran Canaria with their season nicely up and running after a second win at the weekend, at home to a strong Athletic Club side.

Real Madrid vs Real Betis

Gareth Bales silenced his critics with a stunning goal to help Los Blancos get a crucial win at Real Sociedad, ending the hosts’ 100 percent record in the process. Real Betis are in mid-table after beating Depor on Sunday but are unlikely to move up again on Thursday!

WEEK 5 FRIDAY:

Villarreal vs Espanyol

The Yellow Submarine have had an extra day off with Espanyol playing a Tuesday fixture and so after a slow start, they can build on their two wins, following an impressive 0-3 at Alaves. Espanyol may also still be recovering from their derby day hammering.

Celta Vigo vs Getafe

Getafe put up a good fight against Barca on Saturday, losing by the odd goal, and with Celta Vigo away at Espanyol on Tuesday, have two more days to prepare for this game, though the hosts will see it as a good chance to climb the table. They are at 1.88 to get a win.

Levante vs Real Sociedad

Sociedad began the season in superb form, winning the first three, but that all went by the wayside after Real Madrid took all three points from their hosts at the weekend. And this won’t be a cakewalk; unlike their visitors, Levante are still unbeaten with a win and three draws.

How can you stop the Magical Messi?

It’s easy to run out of superlatives when you describe the feats of Lionel Messi. Magnificent, breathtaking and yes…he’s the best player in the world.

Sports betting fans know the magician can make any game his, and he did just that by smashing four goals as Barca destroyed Eibar 6-1. And what betting odds would you get on Messi adding to his 28 league hat-tricks again this season? On this form he’s simply unplayable.

And following a shock home defeat, which wrecked a few confident football bets, Real Madrid is now seven points behind the leaders

Barcelona 6-1 Eibar

Lionel Messi ran the show yet again at the Camp Nou with a masterful display to cement Ernesto Valverde’s team’s place at the top of the league. He started the rout with a 20th minute penalty before adding a second half hat-trick.

Sevilla 1-0 Las Palmas Las Palmas put up a good fight at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and held out until the 83rd minute but when the goal came it was a beauty. Jesus Navas hit a screamer from distance, and at a tight angle, into the top corner to keep Sevilla second.

Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Atletico Madrid

Two second half goals, the first soon after the break from Angel Correa, and the second on 73 minutes by Yannick Carrasco were enough to ensure Atletico remains unbeaten. Garcia scored late for Athletic Club but the game was gone.

Valencia 5-0 Malaga

A quick-fire hat-trick from former West Ham striker Simone Zaza took this game away from Malaga in an instant. He bagged all three in a devastating nine minutes to send the demanding Mestalla fans wild as Valencia goes fourth.

Levante 3-0 Real Sociedad

Levante continued its unbeaten start to the season with a fine win over Sociedad to move up six places to fifth. Chema Rodriguez opened the scoring in the first half before Jose Morales and Enis Bardhi added to Sociedad’s woes.

Real Madrid 0-1 Real Betis

Zinedine Zidane has appealed for calm after Antonio Sanabria nodded in a late, late winner for Real Betis, which rather spoiled the return from suspension of Cristiano Ronaldo. These are early days but seven points to the top is some gap.

Leganes 0-0 Girona

Leganes will be disappointed not to have won this and is now three games without a victory. It could have been worse as Girona’s Juanpe was denied by the crossbar late in the game.

Villarreal 0-0 RCD Espanyol

Having an extra day off than their visitors, who played on Monday, didn’t help Villarreal as the Yellow Submarine failed to break down Espanyol’s defence. The draw leaves Espanyol in early peril though.

Celta Vigo 1-1 Getafe

When Hugo Mallo nodded down for Maxi Gomez to fire home in the first half it looked like Celta Vigo was about to grab a crucial three points, but Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez fired home on 86 minutes to halt the celebrations.

Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 Alaves

Depor grabbed a crucial first win in a tense affair thanks to a well directed strike from Luisinho after Florin Andone had teed him up, a minute before half time. They couldn’t add to it in the second half but held on as Alaves remains pointless.

Big Football Games Keep on Coming in Spain

After a week packed with drama and shocks in La Liga, these big matches are coming thick and fast.

It’s a crucial weekend for Real Madrid after losing to Real Betis. Another bad result and betting websites will be looking at Los Blancos with rare caution. And what a game we have in Madrid; where third plays second as Atletico and Sevilla try to keep pace with leaders Barcelona.

WEEK 6 SATURDAY:

Atletico Madrid vs Sevilla Atletico is fancied to win this epic battle at betting odds of 1.60, with the draw at 3.95 and Sevilla at 5.20. It took a late screamer from Jesus Navas against Las Palmas to keep Eduardo Berizzo’s men second and Diego Simeone’s Atletico is right in the hunt after Yannick Carrasco scored in Bilbao in a 2-1 win. With both teams unbeaten something could give.

Alaves vs Real Madrid Imagine the meltdown in Madrid if Los Blancos manage to give Alaves its first point of the season, and a defeat is unthinkable. Zinedine Zidane has tried to calm his players and increasingly anxious fans as they try to stop a seven-point gap to the top widening any further.

WEEK 6 SUNDAY:

Malaga vs Athletic Bilbao Malaga is the only team below Alaves in the table, largely thanks to a 5-0 midweek thumping in Valencia; So Athletic Club will see this as an opportunity to dust off defeat to Atletico Madrid and improve on their tenth position.

Girona vs Barcelona It’s always a thrill for football fans to see Lionel Messi in action but I’m not sure the Girona defence will see it that way! The hosts managed to keep Leganes out in midweek but it will need a minor miracle to stop Messi adding to his NINE goals so far this season. Barca is at odds of 1.98 with a -1.75 goal handicap to win and that looks good to me.

RCD Espanyol vs Deportivo La Coruna This isn’t the type of fixture I’d expect to be a relegation tussle, and it is early days, but 16th placed Espanyol will see this as a chance to move away from trouble. Depor is a point behind and in the drop zone, but grabbed their first nervy win in midweek against Alaves, who else?

Getafe vs Villarreal

Getafe’s Angel Rodriguez grabbed a late point against Celta on Thursday and that leaves the hosts in 14th place and they entertain the Yellow Submarine, which has had a stop-start opening to the season and is looking for consistency.

WEEK 6 MONDAY:

Las Palmas vs Leganes It’s off to sunny Gran Canaria for Madrid’s smallest team as 11th placed Leganes takes on 12th placed Las Palmas. Last season the hosts were rampant on home territory and that could spell trouble for Leganes, without a win in three.

Eibar vs Celta Vigo Eibar will be looking at Girona with some sympathy this weekend as the last team to face Messi and Barca, capitulating 6-1, and Celta Vigo will hope the hosts are still shell-shocked as they themselves hope to improve on a shaky start as they sit outside the drop zone on goal difference only.

Real Sociedad vs Valencia That free-scoring home performance moved Valencia up to fourth and it’s a long time since the demanding Mestalla faithful have been so happy. And that nudged Real Sociedad down to sixth after they lost their second successive match, this time to Levante. Both teams can make a big statement of intent here.

WEEK 6 TUESDAY:

Real Betis vs Levante Both teams in the Monday fixture had cause for celebration this week as Antonio Sanabria nodded in the shock winner for Real Betis against Real Madrid, while Levante moved up to fifth with a cracking 3-0 home victory against Real Sociedad. Both are on nine points.

You Won’t Win Football Games if You Shoot the Wrong Way…

Particularly if you’re playing against Barcelona! As if the betting odds weren’t stacked against them enough, struggling Girona gifted Barca two own goals.

And that result, along with Atletico’s victory over Seville, has taken Ernesto Valverde’s stars four points clear at the top of La Liga.

Girona 0-3 Barcelona

The popular pre-match football prediction was an away win, of course, but Barcelona probably couldn’t believe their luck when they were given a helping hand by the hapless duo, Aday Benitez and Gorka Iraizoz. Luis Suarez sealed victory in this newest Catalan derby.

Atletico Madrid 2-0 Sevilla

Atletico leapfrogged Sevilla into second place with a convincing second-half display. The in-form Yannick Carrasco slotted home to put Diego Simeone’s men in front, and Antoine Griezmann made the points safe with a typically smart finish.

Real Sociedad 2-3 Valencia

Valencia’s impressive start to the season continued with a nail-biting win at Sociedad. Simone Zaza, the hat-trick hero in last week’s destruction of Malaga, was on target again five minutes from time to lift the visitors to fourth.

Real Betis 4-0 Levante

Monday night’s fixture saw Real Betis storm up to fifth place with a 4-0 win over Levante. It was a second-half master class as Antonio Sanabria scored the opener soon after halftime and the fourth in injury time.

Alaves 1-2 Real Madrid

Dani Ceballos took his chance as the rested Luka Modric’s replacement with both hands, and saved Los Blanco’s blushes in the process, scoring a crucial double which helped the champions limp to victory against bottom club Alaves.

Las Palmas 0-2 Leganes

Madrid club Leganes moved a point behind their illustrious neighbours and ended a three-match winless run with a 0-2 win in Gran Canaria. Claudio Beauvue struck early in the second half before Javier Eraso added a second on 96 minutes.

Getafe 4-0 Villarreal

Time ran out rather quickly for Villarreal boss Fran Escriba, who was sacked after the Yellow Submarine went down disastrously in Getafe. Angel Rodriguez was his arch-tormentor, scoring early in the second half and then again in injury time.

Malaga 3-3 Athletic Bilbao

Malaga picked up their first point of the season thanks to a late comeback to snatch a draw at home to Athletic Club. Down 1-3 with ten minutes to go, the strugglers’ heroes were Paul Baysse and Diego Rolan, who scored on 84 minutes.

Eibar 0-4 Celta Vigo

Eibar are down to 16th, following up a 6-1 thrashing by Barcelona with another thumping at home to Celta Vigo. Gustavo Cabral headed the visitors in front on 17 minutes, and Daniel Wass completed the rout 18 minutes from time.

RCD Espanyol 4-1 Deportivo La Coruna

Espanyol moved up four places to 12th thanks to a convincing win at home to Depor. Gerard Moreno helped himself to a late double, which also leaves Deportivo in a relegation spot.

Atletico Are Happy to Take up Barca’s Challenge

Well, somebody has to. We’re six games into the Primera Division and Barcelona are storming ahead, but as one of two other unbeaten sides, Atletico are in the hunt.

At the start of the season, betting websites couldn’t split Barca and Real Madrid for the title but our Asian Handicap Betting offer already has Ernesto Valverde’s team odds-on for glory at 1.48.

WEEK 7 SATURDAY:

Celta Vigo vs Girona

Before the leading pack appears, first live betting option sees 17th-placed Girona visit Celta Vigo where a home win looks on the cards. Maximiliano Gomez is in fine form and has already scored five for the hosts while Girona hasn’t won, or indeed scored in four. You can get 1.98 on a home win, with a -0.75 handicap, while Under 2.50 goals is at 1.85, and the most likely scoreline is 1-0 at 5.80.

Deportivo La Coruna vs Getafe

Deportivo ground out a first win against Alaves recently but a 4-1 defeat to Espanyol dumped them back in the bottom three. Getafe has started well; accumulating eight points after a resounding 4-0 win over Villarreal.

Sevilla vs Malaga

Sevilla are a point further back in third place and highly unlikely to lose ground against Malaga, languishing in 19th place with a solitary point. Wissam Ben Yedder hit a Champions League hat-trick at home to Maribor in midweek and he’ll fancy more fun on Saturday.

WEEK 7 SUNDAY:

Levante vs Alaves

If Malaga had a bad day, it may get worse if bottom club Alaves can finally break their duck away to Levante. The hosts have started well, in ninth place, but were thumped, 4-0, by Real Betis on Monday and Alaves pushed Real Madrid close last week.

Leganes vs Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone is juggling his players at the moment, with Atletico facing Chelsea in the Champions League and then an expected high-octane local derby with Leganes in the weekend. It won’t be easy but the visitors can cut Barca’s lead down to a point, for a day, and with a -1.00 goal handicap they are at 2.11 to do just that.

Real Sociedad vs Real Betis

Sociedad will be hoping to come back from Russia in one piece after a Europa visit to Zenit- St Petersburg, particularly after losing their last three league games. Real Betis have moved up to fifth, with four wins in the last five, and will see a big opportunity here.

Barcelona vs Las Palmas Lionel Messi looks in the mood to break more records as his stratospheric career just keeps on amazing the football world. He has nine goals already this season and that’s four more than Las Palmas! Plus, Barca have only conceded two in six games so far. Las Palmas are a 2.01 to win with a +3.00 goals start.

WEEK 7 MONDAY:

Valencia vs Athletic Bilbao

The Mestalla is a happier place than it’s been for some time as Valencia are the third team to remain unbeaten, and that have lifted Marcelino’s men to fourth in the table. Athletic Club are 11th but without a win in three.

Villarreal vs Eibar So, poor Fran Escriba is no more after he was sacked by Villarreal following his side’s disastrous showing against Getafe last week, and it may seem a little early for such drastic action; particularly as Eibar arrives on the back of two hammerings, 6-1 and 4-0. A home win is at 1.80.

Real Madrid vs RCD Espanyol

Are Los Blancos starting to click? If so, it’s about time. Cristiano Ronaldo was on target twice as Los Blancos showed their true class for the first time this season with an impressive Champions League win in Dortmund. Espanyol won’t lie down though, after a slow start they are three unbeaten with two wins and a draw.

No-one at the Camp Nou to See Barca Storm Clear

Barcelona moved five points ahead at the top of La Liga thanks to a 3-0 home win over Las Palmas behind closed doors.

Betting odds on the Catalans lifting the title are already short, and while there are 31 football games still to play, it’s difficult to see them fading any time soon. And, of course, the magical Lionel Messi was on target yet again.

Elsewhere, Sevilla won to go second, while any gloomy Valencia fan that made a football prediction they were in for another tough season will be cheered by their start.

Barcelona 3-0 Las Palmas

Barca’s game with Las Palmas was played behind closed doors as tension over the Catalonia independence vote caused unrest in the city. But that didn’t faze the league leaders, who swept Las Palmas aside. Lionel Messi scored twice to take his early season tally to 11.

Sevilla 2-0 Malaga

Sevilla bounced back from defeat to Atletico last week with a comfortable win over Malaga. After a fruitless first half, Ever Banega scored a 68th-minute penalty and Luis Muriel made it two on 70. Malaga have hit rock bottom.

Valencia 3-2 Athletic Club

Valencia go third after another win, this time over Athletic Club. The hosts were two up at the break, but it was game on when Aritz Aduriz pulled one back for the Bilbao side on the hour. Rodrigo Moreno settled nerves at the Mestalla on 66 minutes, heading home to make the points safe.

Leganes 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Madrid’s smallest team matched its illustrious neighbours for much of this game, attacking with ambition and defending stoutly. There were chances at both ends but it’s a disappointing draw for Atletico who have drifted six points from the summit.

Real Madrid 2-0 RCD Espanyol

Los Blancos inflicted a first defeat in four games on Espanyol with a dominant display. Cristiano Ronaldo put Isco through to score on 30 minutes, and did so again to give the forward a double in the second half. Real are up to fifth but still seven points behind Barca.

Real Sociedad 4-4 Real Betis

Honours even in this eight-goal thriller as both teams went for goals from the off. It was nip and tuck all the way, and when Sergio Leon fired one into the top corner, on 84 minutes, he thought he’d won it for the visitors; but Sociedad’s Diego Llorente headed a dramatic equaliser two minutes later.

Villarreal 3-0 Eibar

No tears shed for the sacked Fran Escriba then, as Villarreal cruised to a convincing win thanks to a Cedric Bakambu hat-trick. This win has lifted the Yellow Submarine up into the top half but landed Eibar in the bottom three.

Celta Vigo 3-3 Girona

Girona haven’t won in five games now, but they put on a spirited show to grab a point from a six-goal thriller at the Balaidos. Fans were rubbing their eyes when it was 2-2 after 16 minutes. It was another hour before Daniel Wass converted a free-kick to put the hosts in front, but there was still time for Juanpe to snatch a draw.

Deportivo La Coruna 2-1 Getafe

Florin Andone struck on 87 minutes to give Depor another crucial win, which eases Pepe Mel’s team away from the drop zone. Amath Ndiaye had given Getafe the lead early in the second half, but Lucas Perez finished coolly to level, prompting a late, and successful, surge from the hosts.

Levante 0-2 Alaves

Alaves finally got their season going and moved off the bottom with a welcome win at Levante. Munir El Haddadi was on the spot to put the visitors ahead on 33 minutes and Alvaro Medran’s header made the game safe with nine minutes remaining.

Not All Football Games are Equal

Whatever your penchant is, sports betting fans, even you would agree there are occasions when particular football games must take star billing.

This weekend in La Liga is one such example.

For all the contests, the one inside the Wanda Metropolitano mist take centre stage.

WEEK 8 SATURDAY:

RCD Espanyol vs Levante

Both teams can be quietly pleased with their starts.

Espanyol gave Real Madrid a battle in their last outing and threatened a surprise in the second half.

Levante were disappointing at home to Alaves and can ill afford many scorelines like that 2-0 reverse.

Athletic Bilbao vs Sevilla

Bilbao will want a quick return to winning ways after they were edged out in a five-goal contest at Valencia.

Sevilla will want to maintain second spot with many clubs hot on their heels, most notably the Madrid outfits.

A trip to the Basque club is never easy and should be a genuine test of Sevilla’s credentials.

Getafe vs Real Madrid

Los Azulones meet Zinedine Zidane’s charges with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

They sit 12th in the early standings, although that can be deceptive as they are only two points clear of the relegation places.

It’s been a difficult start to the campaign for Getafe with matches against many of the leading clubs, whereas Real need to put their stuttering start behind them – they already trail leaders Barcelona by seven points.

WEEK 8 SUNDAY:

Alaves vs Real Sociedad

After victory last time out lifted them off the bottom, Alaves now bid for a victory to lift them out of the bottom three. This could well be worth watching if you’re after entertainment.

Alaves are not exactly water-tight at the back while Sociedad showed in their 4-4 draw with Real Betis that they too can attack better than they defend!

Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona

If ever this was more than a game of football, it is now.

For there’s no doubt the political fervour will simply stoke up what should be an already intensified atmosphere.

The first match since a disputed referendum on independence in Catalonia which has merely confirmed the reception for Barca will be even more intimidating than normal.

Despite their seven straight wins, this is the first real test for new coach Ernesto Valverde who still has a number of injuries to contend with.

What Diego Simeone what do with that on-pitch consistency from his own troops.

Eibar vs Deportivo La Coruna

Only one point separates these two sides.

Eibar may be the smallest club in the Spanish top-flight but they pack a big punch. They have a talented coach in Jose Luis Mendilibar and their home form over the next eight months will prove crucial – as will matches like this.

Girona vs Villarreal

Villarreal tore apart Eibar before the international break and will hope to put the new boys to the sword too.

Girona are enjoying their first taste of life in La Liga.

Their 3-3 draw with Celta Vigo, Europa League semi-finalsts last term, proves they have largely held their own so far.

WEEK 8 MONDAY:

Malaga vs Leganes

Leganes’ goalless draw with Atletico Madrid showed a real battling quality.

They occupy seventh spot on merit and could be in the top six by the time the weekend is out.

How bottom club Malaga need a positive result.

Real Betis vs Valencia

Sixth versus third - in most other weeks, this game would take top billing. It’s not often that’s been said about this particular fixture.

With much talk about the future of Valencia’s stadium, the Yellow Submarine need to stay focused about what goes on when the whistle blows as they bid to recapture former glories.

WEEK 8 TUESDAY:

Las Palmas vs Celta Vigo

Las Palmas showed they can play politics as well as football last time out, embroidering the Spanish flag onto their shirts for their behind closed-doors match with Barcelona.

With a backlog of teams building up in the bottom half of the table, a win here for either would potentially give them some breathing space.

Both teams need a boost.

When the Big Guns Shine in Football Games

Sports betting isn’t greatly surprised when the likes of Ronaldo, Suarez or Messi strike.

But as actions often prove, it’s what they do late on in football games which can separate the title challengers from the rest.

Another action-packed weekend in La Liga.

RCD Espanyol 0-0 Levante

A mid-table clash which frustrated the hosts.

They missed a series of chances and were further frustrated when Gerard Moreno had an 82nd-minute header ruled out.

Promoted Levante can be more than pleased with their start to the campaign.

Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Sevilla

It was always going to be a test of Sevilla’s credentials, and it was one they failed.

Their second defeat of the season means they have slipped to fifth in the table.

Mikel Vesga delivered the decisive moment two minutes before the break to end the Basque club’s run of four games without a win.

Getafe 1-2 Real Madrid

The champions could ill afford to drop more points.

Step forward the world’s best player Cristiano Ronaldo whose finish from Isco’s clever pass won the game late on.

It moved them up, temporarily, to second from fifth – the opposite direction of travel to Sevilla – and set a new La Liga record for 13 successive away victories.

Alaves 0-2 Real Sociedad

A first clean sheet of the campaign for Sociedad and, more importantly, a first triumph in four games.

Mikel Oyarzabal and Aritz Elustondo netted the goals in the final 15 minutes as Sociedad move to seventh.

Alaves remain in the bottom three.

Atletico Madrid 1-1 Barcelona

The big game ended all square, although it was hard to deny the leaders Barcelona deserved the equaliser which Luis Suarez brought them eight minutes from time.

This draw may have brought the Catalans’ 100 percent record to an end, but it was a good result.

Suarez, and his provoking celebrations, cancelled out a fine opener by Saul Niguez.

Eibar 0-0 Deportivo La Coruna

There's a bit of history in this goalless draw.

Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho marked his debut with a clean sheet as he became the youngest ever foreign goalkeeper to play in La Liga.

The 18 year-old’s saves helped the visitors to a point.

Girona 1-2 Villarreal

Two goals from Cedric Bakambu inside the opening 20 minutes fired the Yellow Submarine to victory.

It left Girona on the fringes of the bottom three.

No wonder they call him ‘Bakagol’ – he has scored seven of Villarreal’s last eight goals.

Malaga 0-2 Leganes

Leganes in the top six, who’d have thought it?

Malaga bottom. Well, after seven defeats in their opening eight games, it’s hardly surprising.

Second-half goals from Gabriel and Alexander Szymanowski won the match.

Real Betis 3-6 Valencia

What a goal fest!

A nine-goal thriller, only sealed when Simone Zaza and on-loan Manchester United man Andreas Pereira struck late on.

Betis had recovered from 4-0 down to make a game of it, but Valencia are second, even if coach Marcelino will be concerned his side nearly threw away all their work.

Las Palmas 2-5 Celta Vigo

This was five-star Vigo.

A reminder to Las Palmas that they will struggle if they continue to be on the receiving ends of defeats such as this one.

Both the hosts' goals came in stoppage time.

Iago Aspas was the hero for Vigo who played most of the second half with 10 men.
